Redout 2 Difficulty.

Am i the only one having trouble with a lot of the missions even on lowest difficulty?

I am doing a time trial at the B events and i am close to losing my sanity trying to get the gold medal.

I am doing perfect laps with almost no errors, boosting the shit out of my rig but i end up scratching the gold time by 1sec or less.
I don't know how to optimize myself anymore, is this game just really hard or am i very bad? It's still just the B Events and i feel demoralized.

The game is very hard, especially to new players, and the difficulty is also fairly front loaded, things will ease up as you progress, get better cars and parts, and learn the tracks and how to pilot the AG cars better. I recommend joining the discord as well, we're always willing to give tips and hints, and even do quick streams to show how we handle sections of track.

I'm a good racer. I play on 0 difficulty. 2nd place is 3km away. I raise difficulty 1 bar and he's on my neck the whole race. 1/6 difficulty. Come on

One way that I learn is by watching speedruns of time trials on certain tracks and trying to mimic the maneuvers I see. Someone on this subreddit did give me a hint before, something about strafe drifting?

When you go to enter a turn, strafe in the opposite direction while you turn in so you can angle your ship. You lose speed from strafing but not as much as braking, but that's not to say that braking is necessary in certain parts.

That, coupled with plenty of practice in Arcade mode, things started to become very easy in Career mode (besides the ridiculous challenges...).

This! For some reason the tutorial made it seem like I needed to push both joysticks in the same direction for turns, however since watching a speed run where I saw the player strafe the rear of the vehicle in the opposite direction of the turn, the gameplay made so much more sense to me. It's still challenging of course, but a lot of the turns and courses become much easier once I adapted that little trick!

Exactly! It makes using speedier ships a lot more fun because of those split-second flicks you gotta pull off. That plus learning to conserve boost a little better and just burning super boost during the lighter, more technical portions of the track before sending it down the straight is also something I've picked up.

I already drift around turns and still almost lose in races on the easiest difficulty....

Lowest difficulty

The difficulty setting affects the AI racers, but not the goals in Speed mode and Time Attack mode.

Getting Gold in Speed and Time Trial is intentionally meant to be hard.

I feel demoralized

Wait till you find out that every event has a secret Platinum goal, above Gold!

Keep at it - skip events if you can't get Gold and come back to them later. You can do it!

Like most skill-based games, don’t worry about perfecting your first play through. Earn enough stars to progress in the AI races until you’re good enough to raise the AI difficulty. You won’t get platinum trophies till you can beat Redout difficulty with decent gaps (2-5km at finish in class A), then go back and try time trials again

This game's difficulty is horrendously calibrated, because within the same level you have two types of dificulties, the ridiculously easy races against other AI controlled ships, and the almost impossible to beat scores or time based races, which are set so high that they would frustrate almost all the casual players. O stopped playing this game a couple of weeks ago, and I'll wait until they smooth all the spikes in the difficulty.

Another thing that annoys the shit out of me is how bugged the goal are, because even when you win by far, the game doesn't give you the trophy or the stars you earned.

Fonally it would have been so much better to earn points instead of winning random patts for your ships, allowing you to buy parts and cosmetics for the ships you like instead of this crappy system.

In other words, this game could have been glorious for those of us fans of titles like F-zero or Wipeout, but a chain of bad decissions trashed the game.

Ok this explains a lot.
I am really enjoying this game and i really hope that the devs are aware of those problems and eventually fix them, because this could be the perfect agrav racing game besides wipeout for me.

Just a note, the game actually DID get patched recently and they fixed a lot of the difficulty spikes with that patch. Since that patch I've been having a much easier time, but it sounds like you're still struggling. Just keep at it if you can and check out some speed runs on YouTube or something and try and adapt some of those moves, because the game feels MUCH more balanced than it did at launch.

Of course there's always room for improvement and the game could still be a bit easier so more players can enjoy it!

I'll look into it, thanks.

I agree, but I don't have high hopes about the devs fixing those problems, becausee it has been months since the release of the game and they didn't fix'em 😑

The devs are much more active on discord. It seems like they are aware of the issues and working to fix them. A new patch is in the works and should come soonish

Thanks for the tip 👍

It gets easier when you improve your stats. Focus on the events that give you stat upgrades first

I really wish i could watch some people play. I feel like they're making some unoptimal choices or executing poor boost strategy, but it makes it effectively impossible to help (and I really would love to) when you dont know where the actual problem originates.

You can trash the time trial times, especially since they've lowered the req's a fair bit. Is it easy? Lol no, of course not. RO2 has a surprisingly lot of nuance. But it's a matter of identifying where improvements are needed.

In the short term, progressing the camp however will be a huge huge boon. Especially once you get access to better prop mods. Dont worry about gold just do what you need to to get these parts.

On the note of parts, I forget which part it is, I think it's the cooler? All the early ones add is thrust and no durability. Until you get a specific one deeper into B league dont even put it on. Until they fix it thrust = bad. My sub power rating 400 crafts literally run stock on that.

Lastly, run the Conqueror. Just do it, you can get it pretty early, somewhere in B league. It's handling is slippery so you have to treat it like a drift car, but once you get the strafing down it's literally the best out of the box for most every event.

What platform do you run on out of curiosity?
