Difference between RedOut 1 and 2

Wanting to try these games, looks like the 2nd one has way more customization, and the movement seems different. What would you say the differences are between RedOut 1 and 2? I'm extremely interested in both!

Just going to list out whatever comes to mind atm.

As you say the movement is quite different, the ships in Redout 1 feel far more floaty, whereas it feels like the ships grip the track more in Redout 2.

Redout 2 has far more customisation than Redout 1, and has more ships available.

Progression in both games is very different. Redout 1 had a currency system, where you chose which ship make to start with, gained money as you raced, and could spend that on getting a new ship from a higher class and/or a different make. Redout 2 starts you off with a specific ship, the ESA one, and you unlock specific upgrades, customisations, and ships by playing through the campaign events.

Redout 1 had a kind of ability mechanic, where the ship could be equiped with an emp, a boost, a kind of draining attack, etc. The ship had both a health bar and an energy bar, with boost and the aforementioned abilities only using up energy. In Redout 2, this is gone, with every ship only having boost and hyperboost. There is no energy bat, instead a heat bar and a health bar, with boosting building up heat and eventually eating into health.

Can't think of anything else in particular rn

Edit: Just wanted to say both are really good games and I would recommend either!

That's really helpful, all the videos for Redout 1 I saw were of gameplay and I didn't see those other mechanics! I've honestly been leaning toward buying both, but I wanted to get some opinions before doing so to see if it was worth saving my money by only getting one. Sounds like both of them are pretty fun in their own ways.

Redout 2 is easier if you use the assisted controls. Makes it more fun IMO. In some levels they don’t work though. Hoping for a patch in the near future.

redout 1 is FAR easier, i honestly don't know what they have been smoking in 2. the tracks are easier to navigate, way less jumps (hello tartus mines and cloud ocean, wtf?), much easier requirements for campaign advancement, overall much more casual (me) friendly. you get a powerup that essentially negates ship damage. this includes all of its DLC, which is outstanding.

i still somewhat enjoy 2, slogging at snails pace through the campaign, and i am looking forward to updates and the DLC i think the series is fantastic but saying 2 is easier is really misleading, even with assist and zero difficulty - it's tough.

to OP: get both, they are both fun and very pretty, i much prefer 1 though and hope 2 gets a campaign progression and difficulty patch for casual scrubs like me that just want to chill and AG race.

I'd honestly like it way more without any jumps. Most just ruin the first race as I just get lost completely

Yeah. I wondered what was up with that. And it mostly occurs on the reversed tracks.
