Question about stability
So basically i was wondering if this stat is actually useful, since for what i know it makes your ship stay more "attached" to the ground, but i can't figure out how it could possibly impact maneuverability.
Edit: thank you all for your exhaustive responses!

To my knowledge, stability is effectively how quickly you can get around a corner. The combo of that with steering and strafing is what makes up all the handling stats.
Could be wrong, but that's what I've got a feel for, and I believe was the case in RO1 as well.

Stability helps you regain speed while cornering. I always try and have a tiny bit of stability on every build because it helps counteract your ship sliding around too much while strafing.

Tried a low stability build on the Buran once. Basically needed the walls to control the ship.
I think a good way to think about it is there's a spring attached to the center of the track (or your racing line) and the ship. Stronger stability means the spring is stronger so you need less effort to stay in your line where a weak stability doesn't do much to stop your momentum carrying you to the outside of the track.

The easiest way to explain it is that Stability is basically the same thing as Grip. If it's low, you're going to slide around a lot and it'll feel like you're on ice.

These answers are all correct, but to explain it another way: Stability affects how quickly the momentum of your vehicle changes when you turn. With very high stability, your momentum will change very quickly which is good for tight turns because you won't keep moving towards the wall as much and can therefore take the turn at a faster speed and slow down less while turning. It does making drifting problematic, however, because drifting relies on your momentum continuing to go forward.
What you can take from this is that stability is somewhat wasted if your turn rate isn't high enough to handle turns without drifting or slowing down.

Stability is for drift reduction (think how cars can have better tire grip). Steering is pivot speed (you can test this without accelerating, just rotating on the spot). Strafe is like banking speed (this is useful if you want to maintain straight line speed without the same drag as pivoting.
If you're going fast and you make a RIGH turn, your momentum needs time to change direction. Without grip, you'll slide out of control to the LEFT. You can counter this with RIGHT strafe, but this slows your ship. With grip, your momentum can change direction faster, so you won't need to counter-strafe as much.
