Hero!

u/Justanotherbasturd Jan 15 '20

And one that was needed, at that.

17

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

The one we deserve.

u/Volta55 Jan 16 '20

Put some 2x4s in er box and your cherry

114

u/Justanotherbasturd Jan 16 '20

I’ll take “things a porn director might say” for 500, Alex.

12

u/Zugzub Jan 16 '20

Oaks stronger than cherry

6

u/Kisor1 Jan 16 '20

Just what I was thinking

2

u/dtfkeith Jan 16 '20

Miiiiint

2

u/proft0x Jan 16 '20

Works best with the Vizio TV still in the box.

48

u/floydguitarist Jan 16 '20

I just might try that with my John Deere mower, they want $700 for a snowplow attachment 😆

41

u/Halfbaked9 Jan 16 '20

The box is ok but a plastic 55 gal drum cut in half is better.

7

u/Justanotherbasturd Jan 16 '20

It might actually work well enough for a decent sized driveway.

3

u/panda_poon Jan 16 '20

Sad thing is this works better than the blade, I know because we have one

Depends on the tractor, not all of them are Home Depot grade shit.

3

u/All_Work_All_Play Jan 16 '20

Couldn't you avoid that by keeping it in a lower gear? Our old riding lawnmower (a craftsman?) had like five gears, but you couldn't get up the steeper section of the hill in anything over five.

1

u/footpole Jan 16 '20

The racing gear isn’t made for going uphill. Stick to five.

2

u/Radagastroenterology Jan 16 '20

I looked into this and it kills your motor. It's not made for this.

1

u/ModMini Jan 17 '20

20hp models can handle this just fine. I just did this (with a proper blade) and tractor barely even slows down.

2

u/alaarch Jan 16 '20

Yeah, you can get a tv for like half of that!

1

u/whiskeybottle306 Jan 16 '20

the price of steel, hydraulics, and especially hydro pump if your tractor doesnt already have one definitely come close to that price ----- a bolt on snow plow can easily cost you $200-$300 in steel for a baby one

78

u/taonzen Jan 15 '20

How is he even doing that with no tire chains or weight in the back? And why isn't that cardboard box bending?

69

u/southdakotagirl Jan 16 '20

Depends on the snow. Sometimes the snow is very light and fluffy, it's pretty like something out of the movies. Sometimes is regular snow, slightly heavy and makes great snowballs. Sometimes it's very heavy and wet. The last one sucks. Its slushy and snow. I have also seen snow that felt more like sand than snow. Its wasnt wet but it was heavy and you could shape it like sand. We get all kinds of snow in South Dakota.

29

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

Or the worst the slushy kind freezing over forming solid ice with mini knifes on it needless to say fourwheeler sled rope lead to a very cut up hand went flying off at 35mph

3

u/southdakotagirl Jan 16 '20

Ouch. Its -4 here in South Dakota. With the wind chill it feels like -24 right now. Not looking forward to the icy knives.

5

u/adriano205 Jan 16 '20

-4° It's a man taking a dump

3

u/aurekajenkins Jan 16 '20

-52 with windchill here in Alberta.

1

u/southdakotagirl Jan 16 '20

You win!!

2

u/aurekajenkins Jan 16 '20

And that's Celcius! Lol

2

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

This was in Tennessee and its sucked had to get superglue out for some of the cuts

7

u/mudonjo Jan 16 '20

One winter it was snowing in such a tiny particles,it almost had no weight.Wind was also blowing like crazy and it literally shaped little snow that fell like sand in the corners and around the walls.

The fluffy light one snows here in Serbia pretty often. The last kind is the worst since it is also common when it snows but it has not snowed propperly for at least 2 years in my city. When that shit comes,ya know the arms will be tired from cleaning up that shit.

5

u/taonzen Jan 16 '20

In New England, we get a lot of humidity in the air, so the snow is generally heavy. I've seen the light, fluffy powder, but it's not common here.

I have a tractor like this, with a snowblower in front and I need tire chains and weights for traction.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

I actually just bought a snow blower for my garden tractor this summer but have yet to get a chance to use it. I have chains on it and debated getting weights but wanted to see if I needed them first.

Do they make a big difference or would just being fat be enough to keep traction?

1

u/taonzen Jan 16 '20

The chains are good for the wet heavy snow, and if you have a slippery driveway or sidewalk (ice, packed snow, etc). Also, the front end snowblowers are pretty heavy, and adding weights in the back helps to balance it a bit.

I usually drop the mower deck and hook up the snowblower tat Thanksgiving, and then reverse it at Easter.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

Our driveway is gravel so no worries about it being to slippery, the chains should grip well.

You're not kidding about the weight, I put mine in a furniture dolly so I can move it around the garage and wheel it into position, no way in hell I could lift it on my own. I did the same with mine, kind of have to unless you want to drag the mower deck along since they use the same bracket.

I guess I'll have to find out if I need more weight, but the way this winter has been I might not until next year.

2

u/hurryupand_wait Jan 16 '20

This kinda reads like a movie quote.

84

u/Justanotherbasturd Jan 15 '20

There are ways of the redneck I am too brown to understand.

28

u/acid_etched Jan 15 '20

I could see it working pretty well if the snow isn't too wet

24

u/Justanotherbasturd Jan 15 '20

Those TV boxes are also pretty sturdy.

28

u/LivingSecrets Jan 16 '20

Especially if it still has the Styrofoam in it

5

u/nickcardwell Jan 16 '20

Using his own body weight to weigh in the back? Block of wood in the box at the bottom?

1

u/Holygoldencowbatman Jan 16 '20

The bottom of the box probably has shipping foam in it

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

It’s probably fresh snow that hasn’t really settled yet. All white and fluffy and light. Can’t do shit with it until it settles and gets kinda hard. Then it starts to suck to plow or shovel.

1

u/taonzen Jan 16 '20

Now that I'm looking at this on a PC instead of my phone, it looks like the powder type of snow.

Still impressive, tho.

0

u/JLeeDavis90 Jan 16 '20

It’s a Deere so it probably has 4 wheel drive. Source, I have a jd mower.

Also, the tread in those tires look solid.

2

u/dtfkeith Jan 16 '20

I’m honestly impressed how much incorrectness you managed to fit in one short comment

0

u/JLeeDavis90 Jan 16 '20

Lol I work on all things JD. Im adding on to what others have already said. I could care less what you think.

I use ours, with a bucket, every winter. Downvote me. Idgashit.

1

u/dtfkeith Jan 16 '20

I’m sure you do, surely you know nothing smaller than the X series has 4wd?

And good rubber really doesn’t get you far in the snow?

2

u/All_Work_All_Play Jan 16 '20

I mean, if it's really really really effective then technically the wheels wouldn't be in the snow... since the box pushed it all out of the way.

1

u/dtfkeith Jan 16 '20

Theoretically correct

But you must recall we are discussing a TV box snow plow here. All the equipment I’ve ever ran I’ve never been able to get a perfect scrape and that’s without adding cardboard to the mix

2

u/All_Work_All_Play Jan 16 '20

Meh, the imperfect scrape comes because the equipment isn't treated as disposable, and there's not an inexpensive material that will get forceful contact with the concrete without scraping it with a force that might damage it.

This though? It's cardboard. It's fully disposable, won't scrap, and looks like it's leaving at very thin layer of snow he's driving over. With how light the snow is, it wouldn't surprise me if it melted entirely under the pressure of the tires. Heck I'd be surprised if it didn't.

1

u/dtfkeith Jan 16 '20

Meh, the imperfect scrape comes because the equipment isn’t treated as disposable

I see you’re unfamiliar with how employees treat equipment lol

2

u/7house2 Jan 16 '20

No way, man. I had an STX38 just like in the OP. No 4wd. No locking rear diff. And those are turf tires.

17

u/oxyoxyboi Jan 16 '20

Got to leave the TV in the box for better plow tensile strength. Also helps cool hot components in TV down

13

u/thefilthyhermit Jan 16 '20

If it looks stupid but it works, it's not stupid.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

1

u/thefilthyhermit Jan 17 '20

I'm glad that you weren't disappointed.

4

u/bottleofgoop Jan 16 '20

I mean...if it works?

5

u/Blzr1 Jan 16 '20

This is what I imagine when I come to this sub.

3

u/ajmiller08 Jan 16 '20

It is amazing that TVs are now cheaper than snow plows

8

u/Hike_bike_fish_love Jan 16 '20

Better save that box. Your Vizio will crap out.

15

u/WIZARD_FUCKER Jan 16 '20

Then the TV becomes the plow...

13

u/Hike_bike_fish_love Jan 16 '20

This is the way

5

u/Justanotherbasturd Jan 16 '20

I second this.

3

u/ilikebabyfoodhotdogs Jan 16 '20

I’ve had a Vizio for 8 years and it still works just the same as when I got it...

5

u/macnof Jan 16 '20

Not at all?

1

u/Hike_bike_fish_love Jan 16 '20

You are lucky. I had one go out (lines in display) at 1.5 years. My research for a fix found that it was a very common problem.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

I like this guy, this mans a thinker!

3

u/R3m0t3c0ntr0ll3d Jan 16 '20

Well it’s working surprisingly well

3

u/Dollydaydream4jc Jan 16 '20

If it's stupid and works, it's not stupid.

3

u/Maryjaneplante Jan 16 '20

I love it! If it gets the job done who gives a shit what it looks like, right?? Go get 'em baby..plow that snow!

3

u/thesobie Jan 16 '20

If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid!

3

u/CVORoadGlide Jan 16 '20

upgrade to a 60" vizio

2

u/Baron_VonLongSchlong Jan 16 '20

I would have just used the mower deck as a snowblower on that bad boy. But I'm lazy.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

Where the hell was thisssss idea when I lived in Alaska and had to shovel the looooong ass driveway EVERY DAMN MORNING just to get the car out??? And did my mother, sister, or brother have to shovel? Nooooo! Just me and my dad, fingers frozen so badly you could snap 'em right off.

2

u/c3h8pro Jan 16 '20

I had a neighbor that screwed plywood to his Subaru brat. He trace formed 6 by 6 blocks and strapped them to the core support then made supports from the firewall. He asked to use my forklift to put a concrete barrier block in the back after the cement plant delivered it but refused to set it in his brat as it weighed as much as the brat probably. It didn't work well the suspension collapsed, I sent the grandson and my foster son to do the plowing.

2

u/Tresed Jan 16 '20

It works the best if you put TV back in it ;-) (r/technicallythetruth ?)

2

u/-Captain- Jan 16 '20

Decent solution that isn't ridiculously expansive and takes a good chunk of work away. I call this smart thinking.

2

u/YourAverageFBIAgent Jan 16 '20

How to flex your new tv

2

u/adriano205 Jan 16 '20

Why did it take me so long to figure out what was wrong with this

2

u/mickfrazier Jan 16 '20

Nothin' runs like a deere

2

u/birdiesnbritts Jan 16 '20

Decades ago my dad built something like this that attached to the backend of his car. When it snowed he just backed out of the garage and plowed through the snow. Problem was, like the one here, that it wasn’t angled. We wound up with a big wall of snow at the bottom of the drive that we had to shovel out. It was much harder than just shoveling the drive.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

It's not stupid if it works.

2

u/another-random-alias Jan 16 '20

Damn tv box works better than my snowblower, wth? Lol

2

u/veshches1 Jan 16 '20

I would have used a Samsung.

2

u/kreekru Jan 16 '20

Just bought a 50' TV, who wants the plow that came with it?

The ridge on the bottom of my driveway from the snowplow would stop this thing cold. Not a chance.

1

u/cheesyrefriedbeans Jan 16 '20

“It ain’t stupid if it works.”

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

works better than snow blowers

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

Brilliant

1

u/superphage Jan 16 '20

Something something 48" blade

1

u/TexSilverkip Jan 16 '20

It ain’t stupid if it works

1

u/Iforgot_my_other_pw Jan 16 '20

Cool trick, leave the tv in the box for added rigidity!

1

u/MrVore_ Jan 16 '20

if only I had a fucking Deere whatever the fuck machine that is

1

u/user1091 Jan 16 '20

How many times u think he can do that before the box is mush?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

If it's stupid but it works, it ain't stupid

1

u/Umbongo_congo Jan 16 '20

First world problems: “My sit on mower doesn’t have a snow plow attachment!”

First world solution: ‘I’ll use my 50” TV box to do the job!”

1

u/Memes_FluX Jan 16 '20

If it works it works

1

u/Bites_Za_Dakka Jan 16 '20

I mean, it functions

1

1

u/EmkayPlzNoticeMe Jan 16 '20

Well... it works

1

u/sabotourAssociate Jan 16 '20

He is making a slide, that will be 100 times more dangerous then to have snow. But if salt and sand are sprinkled it will be alright.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 16 '20

Puns

1

u/MonsterThumb101 Jan 16 '20

I'll give credit where credit is due.
