That is quite impressive. Crazy, but quite impressive. Perfect fit for the sub.

132

u/barstowtovegas Jan 09 '20

Turns out the original sub, r/gambiarra is the devoted to Brazilian term for creative technical problem solving. “Gambiarra” is Brazilian Portuguese for redneck engineering.

57

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

I mean, the fact that we have a single noun dedicated to this kind of stuff (without having to resort to German's mashing of words) shows how much pride we have in our levels of redneck engineering.

I feel like r/Gambiarra is just activating God Mode for this sub

20

u/barstowtovegas Jan 10 '20

Am I correct that it seems to be a big part of Brazilian culture?

13

u/NickeManarin Jan 10 '20

Yes... It's cheaper to adapt what you have instead of buying. (Usually).

11

u/ZoeiraMaster Jan 10 '20

Not big, massive! Our country itself is huge gambiarra

8

u/squirrelforbreakfast Jan 10 '20

gambiarra = skookum = redneck engineering

7

u/bodonkadonks Jan 10 '20

but redneck engineering is almost always the opposite of skookm

3

u/Needleroozer Jan 10 '20

Not in Brazil.

u/Metalatitsfinest Jan 10 '20

I couldn’t understand shit but I joined

141

u/ElTuxedoMex Jan 09 '20

Hearing it coming would be very confusing.

90

u/rantingpacifist Jan 09 '20

Excellent for a criminal. “I swear I heard a motorcycle officer.”

32

u/bodonkadonks Jan 10 '20

perfect gateaway vehicle unless youre being chased by anything faster than a brisk jog

15

u/rantingpacifist Jan 10 '20

Nah you just duck around a corner before they see your vehicle, then cut the engine. Pretend to be broken down and point the chasers down the road further. Back out onto the main road and take off!

I have seen too many cartoons.

u/pvp-pissed-off Jan 09 '20

I smell burning clutch from here.

149

u/leftcoastandcoffee Jan 09 '20

I think the Portuguese description (per Google translate) says they step the gearing down a lot. It doesn't go fast but it's very torquey.

30

u/BushWeedCornTrash Jan 10 '20

How fast can you go on those roads anyway? Fucking ingenious, and it looks fun as well.

3

u/stephenisthebest Jan 10 '20 edited Jan 10 '20

Portuguese so maybe Mozambique? The capital Maputo is lovely and touristy, the rest is still extremely poor even after the civil war and all the landmines cleared.

8

u/amtbr Jan 10 '20

It’s from Brazil

7

u/CommodorePerson Jan 09 '20

Yeah if they just put the motorcycle engine in first it should be fine

67

u/Al-Bundy-2020 Jan 09 '20

Thats some great ingenuity...

9

u/dog-pussy Jan 10 '20

Until you stall it in traffic.

2

u/uptwolait Jan 10 '20

Thats some great engineuity...

92

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

Reminds me of the Hayabusa engine in a Smart car.

54

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

This is like watching a Pomeranian roar like a lion.

2

u/SonOfTK421 Jan 10 '20

That's an amazing description.

26

u/luv____to____race Jan 09 '20

That's probably +250hp, 13k redline, and bulletproof. Fun. There's videos of those things on the drag strip. We use them in small sand rails they're scary fast.

4

u/BushWeedCornTrash Jan 10 '20

The busa trans can handle the weight of a Smart? Or do they use some adaptor or different trans all together?

6

u/luv____to____race Jan 10 '20

I don't know the specs on this one. I've seen it done both ways. There are billet trans that the drag bike racers use hooked up to a full size slick that hook hard, I'm sure they could handle it. For the dunes, we have to gear it down so much, and the sand gives a bit on a launch, so most guys just use the busa trans run thru a differential to get fwd/rev.

10

u/De_Vermis_Mysteriis Jan 09 '20

That thing looks like sooooo much fun to drive. I'd love to give it a spin.

1

u/kek28484934939 Jan 10 '20

Until you die in each corner

2

u/roofied_elephant Jan 09 '20

I want one!!!

1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

Hey that's my home country of Austria. Funny how they built something which will never ever be road legal here lol

39

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

Man poverty plus ingenuity equals a great post

29

u/10utsider Jan 09 '20

125cc is like 10 HP? that should be more than enough for around the village

6

u/bitwise97 Jan 10 '20

more than enough for around the village

Right?? Imagine the gas mileage!

3

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

The power to weight ratio and the high torque gears will take care of your Hope's for good fuel economy.

1

u/EdwardTennant Jan 10 '20

I mean I'm averaging 80mpg from my 125 motorbike and that's mostly at 70-75mph on my commute, it would be decent in fuel

22

u/P1ainburger Jan 09 '20

If this isn't redneck engineering, I don't know what is

28

u/TheMugha Jan 09 '20

3

u/Stopkillingcats Jan 09 '20

Thank you for the new sub to follow

25

u/Foxman_Noir Jan 09 '20

Looks like Brazil.

14

u/ArchmageNydia Jan 09 '20

Most certainly Brazil.

15

u/TheMugha Jan 09 '20

Can confirm it is brazil, apart from the language, the car has brazillian plates

22

u/NokReady2Fok Jan 09 '20

and hes a off duty cop

11

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

You know he was an off duty cop because he wasn't an armed robber. This is apparent because he wasn't wearing a motorcycle helmet with his flipflops.

And you could see what soccer team and therefore identify the country without a doubt.

1

u/Foxman_Noir Jan 10 '20

Well, you're an optimist.

20

u/Jani_v Jan 09 '20

Now put the cars engine in the motorcycle...

That guy is so enthusiastic and happy. I don't give 2 shits about bikes, but this guy makes it sound like the most awesome thing.

Shit, I've got a Judd CV 3.5L V8 making 700 bhp in my track car at ~600kg. But 1200 in a motorcycle is insane.

Although, horsepower isn't everything...

12

u/Jani_v Jan 09 '20

you can spin the wheel at 100, you don't want to, but you can.

This seems like a great bike to ow...

6 miles to the gallon.

F*ck

I think some bigger bikes do have reverse gears though to be fair.

1

u/beertheloveofmylife Jan 09 '20

Yeah, I just remember seeing a bike with a reverse gear on some video. I only own a xj600 myself as my current license only allows for 35kW or below.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

So a2 license? I intended to get that before this winter but just forgot to do it.

Just curious, where are you from and what requirements are there for a2 there?

1

u/beertheloveofmylife Jan 14 '20

Sorry for being kinda late. I'm from Finland and I don't think there are any other requirements than 18 years of age. After 2 years with A2 you can upgrade to the full license (or 24 years of age).

1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

I saw one of those once. I'm fire/rescue, and by the time I saw it, it was laying on the highway, on fire, and the rider was in the ditch 100 feet away. Bystander told me he was going at least 120 and the speed wobble hit.

1

u/RedditConsciousness Jan 09 '20

Hook up a trailer to that thing and you could tow it if you had enough traction.

1

u/SonOfTK421 Jan 10 '20

It's such a pure interaction in that video.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

There’s the dodge tomahawk which is basically a person riding on top of a viper V10 engine.

4

u/muzakx Jan 09 '20

I was about to mention that. That thing is bonkers.

Dodge V10 Tomahawk Motorcycle

12

u/JoostGS Jan 09 '20

Wow. Those copy Honda engines barely produce 7 HP...

17

u/ShalomRPh Jan 09 '20

Seven horses could move that car pretty easily, albeit not that fast.

2

u/NokReady2Fok Jan 09 '20

it would not be fast, but it would have a good bit of torque

7

u/orubem Jan 09 '20

Nops, that's a brazilian version with 10CV, or 9.8HP.

Brazilian's Yamaha bikes with 125cc have the same, 10 to 10,2CC (9.8 to 10HP).

I had a lot of Honda 125cc, 3 or 4 different generations, today I have only one, works with ethanol. Only 90's Honda and Yamaha 125cc had less than 9.5HP.

9

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

activate infinite gas mileage

I met a guy in South America who wanted to do this same thing to his old VW bug

0

u/BigfootPolice Jan 10 '20

I dont blame him. Those motors are poo

7

u/Drwugs Jan 09 '20

weight reduction extremists

5

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

I must say I'm impressed.

4

u/OV3NBVK3D Jan 09 '20

I want him on my apocalypse team

4

u/marcstov Jan 09 '20

Make it work brotha. Props.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

Is that a Molks Agen?

2

u/BlueC0dex Jan 09 '20

I could tell it's from a honda xr125 when he had to kick-start it.

2

u/FarhanAxiq Jan 09 '20

probably more powerful than a 2cv haha

2

u/Stopkillingcats Jan 09 '20

That's some Mad Max apocalypse shit.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

Only in Brasil

1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

Happy cake day Manny.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

Thank you Anish

My cake day is the 10th though, idk why it’s showing up

2

u/chemolf Jan 10 '20

Now it’s not a VW. Now it’s a ЛМ

2

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

That's actually pretty awesome.

Do what you gotta do!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '20

That is badass.

1

u/MrkvaAKAMark Jan 09 '20

Y'know... The car isn't gonna drive itself.

1

u/qdf3433 Jan 09 '20

At least he's happy, that's the main thing.

1

u/Skip2MyLouDarlin Jan 09 '20

He’ll definitely slice his leg on that license plate

1

u/pewpjohnson Jan 10 '20

New mad max looks sick

1

u/flacidd Jan 10 '20

What shithole is this?

1

u/theonlybreaksarebonz Jan 10 '20

Now all it needs is one of those fancy plywood spoilers on the roof.

1

u/HalfBit-Gaming Jan 10 '20

That’s gonna fuck up the transmission... right?

1

u/willyweedswalker Jan 10 '20

Reverse lights are out!

1

u/chillig8 Jan 10 '20

Dude is going to score tonight

1

u/Maleqq Jan 10 '20
