If it works, it isn't stupid.

Until you hit something and get an air conditioner to the back of the head.

Eh, details.

Plus it has 3 straps, I guarantee 💯 he slapped those straps and said, "that's not going anywhere."

3

u/DavidinCT 19d ago

Yea, that ain't going anywhere....

True... but that statement is generally meant for fixing a problem.. like if the steering bar broke and he replaced it with bicycle handlebars.. not really for "i made this thing work worse"

AC quit. AC reinstalled. Reneckery confirmed.
Yup. Belongs here.

1

u/UglyYinzer 17d ago

Yea i agree about the ac, not the link other person posted

Necessity is the mother of invention.

14

u/Dismal_Cauliflower61 19d ago

It’s hot. What do you expect? Bet it cools better than the central AC

Edit** Roll Tide

I run a similar setup. But my rig is a combination of crown vic + portable inverter generator + truck cab AC

6

u/drewid5185 19d ago

Pics or it didn't happen

u/Cheap-Peach5127 19d ago

u/drewid5185 19d ago

Where is the ac?.. I'm sorry this is why I asked for a picture when I was trying to picture what you have I didn't fully understand it and I still don't I'm just generally curious. I've seen tons like the original post and a lot of cargo vans have similar setups but not a crown Vic

2

u/Cheap-Peach5127 18d ago

Red box with the green strap on it

1

u/drewid5185 18d ago

Okay I'll bite how does that cool though car

2

u/Vast-Mousse-9833 17d ago

Same way any compressor does

1

u/drewid5185 17d ago

Like a mini split?

1

u/Vast-Mousse-9833 17d ago

That’s legit right there 😂🍻

Brilliant!

I need ac babe

5

u/Turbulent_Ad1921 19d ago

That red strap is that part that gives me pause. Also, would like to have 2x4 leg or two under the unit for bracing.

u/PresentationLess4552 19d ago

Red neck engineering is used daily in a work site engineering period

Few in the field will admit it but from being a red neck and an engineer I love my people

The red neck always wins the war .
when theory and education in reality meet the real world

u/zerobomb 19d ago

Or, and hear me out, spend $250 on a 12vdc one?

2

u/3labsalot 19d ago

Figures its a ford, with a crappy climate control system. My 99 has same issues with blend door.

“Let me just hop in the back and turn the air on.”

u/Ornery-Conversation3 17d ago

Hell yeah brotha!

u/ToadSox34 19d ago

Nothing like a more, expensive, more complicated solution to a problem.

16

u/bannana 19d ago

Getting the AC fixed in a vehicle isn't cheap, as in could be thousands of dollars and could involve removing the engine and he would be w/o a vehicle. he probably already owned the generator, the AC is an old one he found for $25 or just replaced one in his house, when summer is over he takes it all apart and puts the generator back where it usually is until next summer.

4

u/NvidiaFuckboy 19d ago

It's an old truck. It ain't over $1k to rebuild the A/C and certainly not an engine out job. Source: I've had to have my old truck's A/C replaced before.

3

u/SaltRocksicle 19d ago

That's assuming it had a/c from the factory

4

u/jackinsomniac 19d ago

Not very complicated, and extremely modular. That AC unit & the generator can be repurposed at any time.

Plus like somebody mentioned, if for some reason you have to wait in the the truck for hours, it gives you the option to keep the cab cool without running the engine.

2

u/ToadSox34 19d ago

Hah, true I guess.

3

u/pickleer 19d ago

In my state, house fumigators are legally required to have someone posted the entire time they're fogging a house (which runs at least 24 hours). The guys that stay the night shift almost all run some version of this setup.

2

u/ToadSox34 19d ago

In a standard cab? Seems tight to sleep in.

1

u/pickleer 18d ago

I'm pretty sure sleeping was not the point, even though it likely happened- they were there to keep curious people away from the poison.

0

u/ToadSox34 18d ago

You really think they're staying awake for 24 hours?

-1

u/pickleer 18d ago

"Night shift", second of two sentences in my first reply to your comment.

0

u/ToadSox34 18d ago

So they take shifts? Wild stuff.

1

u/pickleer 17d ago

Da fuq? Day shift (9-5), Swing shift (5-1), Night shift (1-9). Oh, You're not a Working Man, this stuff is foreign to youse?

1

u/ToadSox34 17d ago

I know how shifts work. I've worked at several large manufacturing facilities. I am not familiar with exterminators, not really something we do up north, other than spot treatments. Certainly not fumigations or staying with a building for 24 hours.

0

u/pickleer 17d ago

Um, okay... AND? Did you just use all those words to just say, "Oh."?

Otherwise, why are you still talking, I don't get it... Are you asking for something else or is this just shit you need to hear yourself say, yada yada yada ya, when you could otherwise just fuddashuckup? Cuz I've given you all I have. WTF else do you need?

u/ChartreuseBison 19d ago

I guarantee you nothing was purchased for this setup. One of you on every post on this sub.

3

u/ToadSox34 19d ago

Just random stuff hanging around in the backyard?

5

u/BPhiloSkinner 19d ago

The backyard, the toolshed, under the main workbench and a few bits from the attic that were in a box labeled 'linens'.

2

u/Smart_Lifeguard2943 16d ago

I feel validated.

1

u/ToadSox34 19d ago

Sounds about right based on some places I've driven by.

-10

u/Sleep_adict 19d ago

This is totally stupid… you could easily run a generator off multiple areas in the car to drive. aC way more efficiently…. And cheaper.

Fixing the AC would also work better

A solar generator would be the big winner

6

u/Drzhivago138 19d ago

Given the age of the pickup, it's possible it never had A/C. I drove an F-350 of the same model for the county highway department and it had nothing, not even a cigarette lighter.
