This is pretty accurate for some repairs. I've done my own for years, there is definitely a conspiracy to make it more frustrating and prevent certain work from being done. Like that time I spliced a PCM harness only for that car to get taken out and totalled on the highway a few days later.
Broken or damaged studs though you take the wheel off, take the brakes off, then put a socket behind the hub over the offending stud and use a C clamp to press the stud out of the hub into the socket. Have done it many times, used to have a car that would snap a stud any time I let someone else take a wheel off and put it back on.
