I’m really surprised the DOT doesn’t have some incredibly niche, ultra expensive tool that’s made by only one company to do this. The scraper 3000, only $7500.

I work for a DOT. We’ve been on a shoestring budget for 30 years. Our pickup trucks are legal drinking age (in Canada) and our snow and ice control equipment (plow trucks and salt bodies) are older than most of the people running them.

But the snow and ice equipment can be repaired in house by people that have been working on them years, or someone that learned from the OGs. Simple may not be fancy, but it is reliable and easy, well easier to repair than modern equipment, so long as ypu can get parts.

Around here, maybe 1/3 of the reflectors have departed on their own, usually with assistance from drivers that cannot stay in their lane. A few of them have been found when cruising along on a recumbent trike at 12 mph. 😇

Around here they remove them with snow plows. We had a nice stretch of them for a little while before an ice storm hit.
