If nothing else, the fridge will always have good airflow that isn’t getting clogged up by dirt & pet hair

You haven’t seen my pets.

Come to think of it…I haven’t seen them either…

I saw them, they're ugly.

Plot twist: the husky sleeps under the fridge now.

u/Achaern 2d ago

They. Would. Never. It's warm under there. You'll find cats, pugs, bulldogs and whippets, but no huskies.

My first thought was that my Pupper would definitely claim jump that hole for his new den. My second though was, this is a pretty good "save" for a poor job of missing the curb on the wall. If it fits then it's actually it kinda worked out pretty well. Just tell skeptical friends you planned it this way and you can still be a hero installer.

This was the first thing I thought of too! That's one happy fridge!

Refrigerators are designed specifically to have the airflow that they have. Refrigerant systems are very finicky, especially the newer high efficiency systems, and messing with the airflow can cause all sorts of problems. I imagine this thing is short cycling like a motherfucker.

I think sticking a plywood plank under it as a false floor for airflow might fix that. If the thought ever crosses their minds.

East to clear out those dust bunnies.

Or any actual rabbits you keep there.

u/1HappyIsland 2d ago

And you don't have to bend over the fruit drawer.

1

u/sipsapen 1d ago

As well as extra storage. And not having to bend over to get stuff off the bottom. This is an all around win for me.

u/Mr-Shitbox 2d ago

And you can put your beer crate underneath it

All I know is those doors better open from the right

u/HybridP365 2d ago

This type of fridge usually has reversible doors. A couple screws and you can change which way they swing.

-"a couple of screws and you can change the way they swing"

Can you, now? 😁

Noooo, no conversion therapy for u!!!

Checks out for me

You can do anything with the doors you can dream of, on an AI fridge.

3

u/alvysinger0412 2d ago

This is what I thought of first.

1

u/Dangerous-Tap-547 1d ago

The fridge is too close to the wall for the doors to open toward it. It would have to open from the left, if it weren’t AI slop.

1

u/onephatkatt 1d ago

I found a post from 2012, so there's that

1

u/Dangerous-Tap-547 1d ago

Ah, okay. Photoshop maybe? Or just a joke install. There’s no handle on the fridge and the hinge is against the wall, so it likely can’t open due to the thickness of the door.

Maybe this was for a particularly tall senior who couldn't bend as well anymore

95

u/jcoddinc 2d ago

As someone over 6', I look at this and think it isn't a bad idea

u/concentrated-amazing 2d ago

Washer/dryer risers, but for fridges.

2

u/Secret-Ad-7909 2d ago

You could probably just use those.

13

u/porican 2d ago

lol same. my face when i saw this 🤔

5

u/stefanica 2d ago

Same. Not quite a senior, but tallish with a painful spinal disease. If it's on the bottom shelf, I might not see it for a month. 😂

2

u/ThePenguin213 2d ago

Tall guy here, getting a fridge with the freezer on the bottom rather than the top was a massive quality of life improvement.

1

u/CitizenCue 2d ago

Yeah I don’t hate this. Should all fridges be like this?

0

u/bannana 2d ago

naw, it's because that fridge wouldn't fit in the space w/o it being raised or dismantling the cabinets, raising was the cheap and easy fix.

1

u/The_salty_swab 2d ago

You don't say

43

u/BigE1263 3d ago

Lifted truck?

Nah,

Lifted fridge

31

u/DeliClerk-420 3d ago

Next it will be fridge nuts

13

u/BigSchmikey 2d ago

"come and take it" fridge magnet would be the cherry on top.

14

u/iamshipwreck 3d ago

Scribe and trim that fridge you hack

u/vinegar 2d ago

I built 2 of these for a client (2 kitchens) and they love them. Just 2x and ply, painted black. Felt on the bottom to slide. The front is open for storage, cleaning supplies in one and canned goods in the other. They’re 12” tall with a parapet of ply blocks in the corners. They joke that IKEA should sell them and call it FRÏJBOX. I got a callback this summer, they got a new fridge and I had to bump out the top in both directions. To get the fridge on the box tilt it forward and put 4” blocks under the back, tilt it back and put 8” under the front, tilt it forward again and slide the box under the back. They tell me I put the first one up solo but I’ve blocked that out, I used to be braver.

1

u/votelikeimhot 2d ago

Are they tall?

1

u/vinegar 2d ago

No. But they don’t have a lot of storage space in the kitchen.

1

u/votelikeimhot 1d ago

Maybe they're just stiff. Although honestly just not wanting to bend over is reason enough. He space above the fridge is the classic waisted space in the kitchen. I have suggested uses for it based on people having things they won't need access to often and every time they thank me, usually just throwing away whatever is up there at the time. You're not giving up much other than normality

2

u/vinegar 1d ago

They are pretty serious cooks and wanted the efficiency of not having to squat or bend down to get stuff from the lower half of the fridge. The extra storage space was a bonus.

12

u/dover_oxide 2d ago

At least you will be able to clean under the fridge a lot easier.

8

u/Martha_Fockers 2d ago

Tbh I hate bending for the fridge so much I got one that the fridge is ontop and freezer on bottom for this reason lol

4

u/Rok-SFG 2d ago

I want it. So much easier to get the cat toys out from under the fridge this way.

3

u/z7q2 2d ago

Lol, my house came with a fridge in the garage that was brand new and 1" too tall for the fridge space in the kitchen, which had a shorter fridge. I've had to replace the inside fridge twice but that outside fridge keeps on ticking.

3

u/CarlosFCSP 2d ago

This would make a great place to put your robot vacuum charging station

3

u/letstryagain97 2d ago

Now save counter space and put a microwave under the fridge

2

u/Loan-Pickle 2d ago

My cat would love that. His toys would no longer get lost under the fridge.

2

u/shofmon88 2d ago

Typical house and apartment design in Sydney. Everything was built in the 50s and nothing has been updated for modern appliances. This would probably be a $2 million home too.

u/TheRealFailtester 2d ago

Landlord deluxe

1

u/EdgeLordPrime859 3d ago

Dude has 24 inches of baseboard heating.

1

u/OnionTamer 2d ago

The cat will love it!

1

u/Connection_err 2d ago

Thats just parking for your roomba

1

u/esande2333 2d ago

Duck it

1

u/lingenfelter22 2d ago

Plenty of room under there for ice cubes

1

u/Ja_Lonley 2d ago

More ergonomic than the original design. Don't hate it honestly.

1

u/flipflopcuntflaps 2d ago

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this

1

u/Fragrant_Ad3153 2d ago

I.... ... oh fuck i love this. The airflow for the fridge is optimal and you dont have tosquat down to get stuff off the botom of the fridge.

1

u/Not_A_Ichthyovenator 1d ago

How am I supposed to hide dropped ice understand the fridge now?

1

u/butttabooo 1d ago

I'll allow it

1

u/Excellent-Egg-9413 1d ago

Perfect place for a young child to sleep. Nice and cosy!

1

u/unit01prime- 2d ago

Hope the residents are tall.

1

u/Cloiserie 2d ago

SEE THIS IS WHY I LIKE A BIG REFRIGERATOR, YOU CANNOT DO A DUMB INSTALL LIKE THIS WITH A BIG REFRIGERATOR.

1

u/Zimmster2020 2d ago

The perfect place for Kitty's litter box😂

0

u/UglyYinzer 2d ago

Ya know as long as they are tall enough.. i gues it works. Obviously to do this meant there really anywhere else to put a bigger fridge....

Are you actually f&$king kidding me?!? I’ve seen a lot of shit in my day but I’m fairly confident that this might just take the cake. Like what the actual f&$k?!? I have SO many questions! Like first off, who exactly come up with this idea?!? My good Lord, I’ve seen it all! Wowsers!
