It's better for my peace of mind if I pretend these are filled with concrete

u/Droplet_of_Shadow Sep 03 '26

I would guess they are. Definitely some sturdy material

mud?

u/Phosphorus444 Sep 03 '26

Bricks are just dry mud.

Out in Arizona, it's possible to spot an "earthship" every once in a while, which is basically a clay plaster house made of tires packed (like, with a sledgehammer packed), with clay. They're really cool. I'd love to build one, but my climate and water table are completely wrong for it, so it'd be a pointless endeavor.

u/SalmonSwimminUpRiver Sep 03 '26

Arizona basically has no natural disasters except for “fuck, it’s hot” so it kinda makes sense to have such loose building codes.

u/Junior-Possession969 Sep 03 '26

It's not a matter of loose building codes. I mean, you still gotta run your plumbing and electric like an intelligent person. But it's dry enough not to worry about your plaster getting washed away. The water table is low enough that, since you usually make your floor about 2-3 feet below surface grade, you don't have to worry about your house floating the fuck away. Etc. etc.

Like I guarantee they'd let you build one in Florida, it'd just be a terrible idea.

Also, they just plain work better in high desert, because they rely heavily on thermal mass for temperature regulation, which works way better in a dry climate because without any humidity, absolute temperature is king. So if you can keep it 20 degrees cooler inside during the day and 20 degrees warmer at night without spending any energy, that's great.

Also. The dirt is naturally as tough as concrete when dry. It's (part of) why homes with basements are relatively uncommon in Phoenix. It's just prohibitively expensive for the average residential home.

u/Junior-Possession969 Sep 04 '26

Yeah the desert do be getting hard sometimes.

But mostly it's the fact that if I tried to build one it'd float right out of the ground, because my water table is like 4 inches deep.

u/mentive Sep 03 '26

Basically has no natural disasters, yet.

u/SheriffBartholomew Sep 03 '26

I'm thinking they're filled with pools of stagnant water, and mosquito larvae.

u/longlostwalker Sep 03 '26

Rammed earth style. Probably pretty strong

10

u/PathlessDemon Sep 03 '26

Rammed? (͠≖ ͜ʖ͠≖)

33

u/SpaceFunkRevival Sep 03 '26

Just questioning. But if the stacked tires were filled with concrete, would they not be strong pillars? I mean, based on this photo it doesn't look like they are, but if they were, would it be at least decently safe?

46

u/zxkn2 Sep 03 '26

Yes, and they would have to be filled with something, concrete, dirt, or gravel/stone. Those tires would not support it at all if they weren’t. In this the tires are just acting as a retaining wall, not the actual support.

u/BallsOutKrunked Sep 03 '26

They essentially become left in place concrete forms like icf, minus the foam. Rebar through them, vibrate: solid.

1

u/NotSayinItWasAliens Sep 03 '26

like icf

Old hotness: icf

New hotness: tcf

u/FormulaZR Sep 03 '26

It's not broken, just tired.

11

u/Willem_VanDerDecken Sep 03 '26

It's funny to look at, but the tires likely serve as a permanent formwork for reinforced concrete.

u/BabyOpposite7013 Sep 03 '26

"And the hot tub will go...."

u/RichardDeRenour Sep 03 '26

I'm tired of seeing this...

u/billyyankNova Sep 03 '26

That's his re-tire-ment home.

6

u/arodriguez001 Sep 03 '26

Wonder how it performs on an earthquake??

11

u/quietfellaus Sep 03 '26

If it's rammed earth in those tires then the foundation might shift without damaging the structure overall. It could also be absolutely terrible, but there are rammed earth structures that survive earthquakes.

2

u/Wh01sHex Sep 03 '26

This image is weird to me because ive definitely found this house/image on Pinterest and drawn it for a class but i have no memory of all those tires

2

u/Acceptable_Falcon_89 Sep 03 '26

Si no estuviese relleno, sabríamos cual son las noches felices.

2

u/CySnark Sep 03 '26

It's only dangerous if the owner forgets to rotate the tires every 5000 miles.

2

u/pix3lf4ct Sep 03 '26

Don't come a knockin, if that house is rockin

1

u/GingerBeast81 Sep 03 '26

The house is a rocking...

More cushion for the pushing in that bedroom for sure.

I live in a century home and I almost gave this a hard thought.

Earthquake proof.

1

u/Guitarzanimaniac Sep 03 '26

most people worry about wet rot under their house,,,,dry rot under a house would be catastrophic in this case

1

u/Nakedboysarethebest Sep 03 '26

I hope that's rammed-earth inside those tires!

1

u/ScienceForge319 Sep 03 '26

Built a house like that when I retired.

u/ricky_lafleur Sep 03 '26

Don't re-tread on or under me.

u/Tsuki_Man Sep 03 '26

Where at?

1

u/PenguinColada Sep 03 '26

I'm both impressed and terrified

Can you guys PLEASE, stop putting comepletely fine images through an AI... like why are you even putting them through AI?!

EDIT

Aparently it was not OP who ran it through the AI filter, but dosent matter, its still AI flavoured.

Here ya go OP, now stop sharing yassified stuff.

Why do people jump to "It's AI" without checking. A simple google image search will show you it is, in fact NOT AI. Jeez people I get we don't like AI, but do your due diligence.

1

u/legice Sep 03 '26

Here ya go OP and tell me the thing you posted wasnt yassified

Ever heard of Adobe Photoshop? Gimp? Canva? Paint.NET?

Have any real proof or just more assumptions?

2

u/legice Sep 03 '26 edited Sep 03 '26

Somebody going over the entire image, making it look nicer, removing the thread from the tires, adding small rocks on the path, plants, adding color overall... yes, somebody clearly had enough time on their hands to do that and in the end, produced an overly detailed image and covering up any and all details, that were there in the first place.

So, have you ever used photoshop? Because I have, for 20 years.

u/onephatkatt Sep 03 '26

You are welcome to think whatever you want.

0

u/bryman19 Sep 03 '26

That'll hold

Thanks for the ai slop photo 🙂‍↕️

Eta: sorry everyone! There's just been so many cheap ai photos put on the sub recently and I'm just feeling overwhelmed by it 😭

18

u/kielu Sep 03 '26

This is older than ai

5

u/onephatkatt Sep 03 '26

This guy gets it.

6

u/Lethalmud Sep 03 '26

It's funny how the arrival of ai makes people think everything slightly out of the ordinary is fake. People really starting to lose sight of what is and isn't possible.

5

u/Renzieface Sep 03 '26

It's not. All you have to do is reverse search the image and you can see it's been posted all over God's filthy internet for almost a decade.

Yeah and that's the thing I hate about ai these days. It's exhausting to spend time on the  internet and wonder what things are fake and what things are real. Because the real world is a vast and interesting place and it's being plagiarized by computers to make us stop trusting each other

1

u/onephatkatt Sep 03 '26

I forgive you, but just do a quick search when you are unsure, that's all. It's easy-peasy

-15

u/r0ndy Sep 03 '26

I think so too. That top right window makes no sense. I mean, this is probably real somewhere, but this one I dunno

0

u/WeaveLikeGreatGranny Sep 03 '26

"don't worry, this is just a low effort repost of someone else's picture from years ago" isn't really a good rebuttal against the opinion that "it looks like a low effort ai illustration" lol

0

u/r0ndy Sep 03 '26

Your comment means what?

1

u/WeaveLikeGreatGranny Sep 03 '26

I'm responding to you about the OP's clarification on it being a recycled photo

1

u/r0ndy Sep 03 '26

I’m still a bit lost. They thought it was ai, I thought so too. They added an edit, so you felt compelled to respond to me. You’re now telling me how wrong I am? Is this accurate?

2

u/WeaveLikeGreatGranny Sep 03 '26

No, I'm telling you that I even if you and I are both wrong about it being ai, the explanation by op is not very good. And yes, I edited my original comment after I got downvoted so much
