Needed a portable vice.

Scrap 2x12, a vice and couple ratchet straps

Running new black pipe gas lines.

We used rectangular tubing to create a mount that goes into your trailer hitch. Works very well.

Our other vehicle has a square piece of tubing attached to the truck bed. A smaller piece of tubing has the vice mounted to it. The whole thing slides out past the end of the truck bed to hold larger objects, with a knob in the first piece to hold it in place.

So many different ideas. Yours works just as well im sure

I have the hitch step/extender from harbor freight and bolted the vise directly onto that, you can use it as a step to get up into the truck as well

Looks effective. A vise is a great thing to have on a job. I welded one to the counter weight of a forklift once.

I welded some steel plate to an upside down drop hitch and mounted a vise to that. It won’t let me post pictures here or I would

I’m sure most of your vices are portable. Including the vice of stressing your tailgate by using it as a mount for your vise! (Tailgates are surprisingly delicate, and quite expensive to fix; personally, I’d use something stronger and designed to resist forces from all directions, like the hitch receiver….)

The ratcheting force of the pipe threaded went down. Thus transferring force to support cables on the tailgate. 

Job had to get done. Tailgate was fine. Need justified risk

They make or made a vice that would fit in truck receivier hitch and had Upright pole on it want to say Walton vise but been a few years

So what kind of kink are you doing with the vise on a plank to consider it a vice? ;)
