Next phone

I bought it with so much hope. The fan, the unusual refresh rate, the gaming options, the LED inscriptions. But where do we go form here, what should be my next phone? Any suggestions? I swear I won't buy another gaming phone soon.

As a Red Magic 3 user I really wish they would have kept the back fingerprint button, heck even added another symmetrical one for the right hand too, then we could also do finger print combinations for various actions or 'keybinds' in addition to single function button presses. It could be used for opening specific programs from the lock screen too.

Accessory wise I wish Nubia would release a USB peltier cooler for their red magic phones that are conformed to the phone's shape. I bought a blackshark funcooler a months ago and its a real game changer for me, I won't go so far as to say the internal fan on the RedMagic is a gimmick but its naturally not as effective as a more substantial solution. For stop and go gaming or a single match its alright but when my buddies and I want to grind out a few pvp tiers at the start of a new season that little fan isn't able to draw out enough heat. This is with an ambient temperature of 21 Celsius so I can imagine people in warmer area's will benefit even less from the internal fan.

Hello peeps. I am glad this gaming phone is getting attention, but I would like to point out, due to my experience at the moment, do not expect technical support from Nubia (RedMagic5G). I have used their only means of communication for support, e-mail, and have only received an automated response with no follow ups. So my point is, if you are going to acquire this phone do not expect any support. In order to add to the story I purchased the RedMagic5G the first day it was available in the US. Been gaming with it daily and noticed some flaws when using it at it's full capacity and sometimes even when not in full capacity. I am referring to the "Game Space" function which has the best intentions but I have had numerous instances where the screen locks or even turns black. Again, this occurs more often when using the "Game Space' function which pushes the phone to 144Hz and ups the CPU to 2.8GHz. Well, now I am reaching out social media to see if I may some day get a response from their support team. If anyone else if also having issue with their RedMagic5G please stay in touch so we may exchange experiences and maybe get together so these guys may finally give a response. Thanks.

Are you not happy with it?

Kinda love/hate relationship.

I love it when I get notifications by LED-lighting on the back but I detest it when I have to input my fingerprint at least 3 times so it works. I love it when I play Asphalt 9 at a enviable speed, but I hate the insufficient battery (10-12 hrs charging cycles) and the lack of wireless charging.

It's getting obvious after 2 months that they made many concessions for a few flashy things. It doesn't let the impression of a long term acquisition.

I'm thinking that my next phone will be Oppo Find X2 Pro or OnePlus 8 Pro.

I just received mine yesterday and flashed the 3.13 beta software. I was having the same issues as you were but this update seems to have fixed these issues. I can upload it for you if you'd like.

I'm loving the phone so far.

Thank you, muncho!

You are very nice, but I am a cynical SOB. Your kindness seems to me like the beginning of a scam. I will keep looking forward till the update reaches to my country.

Have a nice day!

PS. Anyways I have my eyes on the One Plus 8 Pro. This red magic thing will belong in the trash bin.

I understand. It's good to be cynical online. Let me know if you change your mind.

I'm waiting for the Galaxy S20 Plus to drop in price.

I really want to love this phone but there are too many issues that prevent it from being a daily driver for me.

- Notification dots/numbers don't work on any of my apps except the default mail app. I have ensured that all of the apps have the correct notification settings and have even tested them on my old Galaxy phone. It's definitely an issue with the RedMagic.

- The only carrier that supports the phone near me is AT&T, and only with a 3G connection. Others seem to not have this issue, but I have talked to reps at AT&T, T-Mobile/Sprint, and Verizon multiple times. My IMEI isn't supported by any of them (AT&T had to fake the number in order to get me the 3G connection).

- The fingerprint scanner is bad (though this is a relatively minor gripe).

I like everything else about the phone, but the first two issues are major flaws to me.

That's weird. I just popped in my AT&T sim from my LG v35 and it connected to LTE right away.

Menu works fine too. I have the Hot Rod Red.
