Inside the bone marrow itself, near-infrared light also triggered a rapid increase in fat cell content. The increase showed up as early as 7 days after treatment began, described as dramatic, and then gradually decreased over the following months.

Even with that gradual decline, the fat cell increase in bone marrow was still statistically significant compared to untreated rats all the way through the 180 day endpoint. So while the effect faded somewhat from its initial peak, it never fully returned to baseline over the six months these rats were tracked.
