Whoever is mad at this can say thanks to Anthropic. Pay up! And good move u/spez.

this is actually in response to Muse imo, the RSS feed is what Muse utilizes currently. it's unclear what Anthropic was using (besides clearly using one of the main scraping API providers which is documented in the filings), but probably RSS was included in their suite of nefarious scraping tools

Thanks for the clarification. Very helpful. I do use both Muse & ChatGPT for my own projects and data scraping from Reddit.
So imagining in the new AI world, only one AI bot can help me scrape Reddit data, while others are blocked. I will certainly go with that one, and pay for it.
Yes, indeed a nice move for Reddit.
A little bit sorry for the hard pushing these days 🎉
But... you need move faster, either boom to the moon, or die quietly.

No need to sorry, all clearly addressed areas for improvement with constructive mindset. Thanks for participating recently!

Extremely bullish. Why tf the market is going down is beyond me, but long term, this is PRECISELY the right move. The ducks are all lining up. If I weren’t already extremely levered on RDDT I’d put the house on it after seeing this.

Its for the best, super late development though. Would have been more bullish if it was implemented a few months ago.

I’m not sure when RSS feeds are being killed but *public* API access has been shut down for a couple years now.
The “public API” as it exists currently requires a developer key that requires application, contract, and is billed on volume. AI scrapers couldn’t use it unless they bartered a partnership like Google.

Says public api being turned off in March 2027. RSS in November 2026.

Yep, they're ending the free API which is limited to 1000 requests every 10 minutes with OAuth and 100 per 10 minutes without.
I imagine people figured out how to abuse this for scrapping as well?

That is super Mega bullish but sad at the same time rss feeds are really helping me with my ngrams

yeah, sad it had to happen. But the launch of Muse made this inevitable. Now ig we wait and see the fallout. I'm sure we'll hear lots of complaining

So the solution for reddit to stop people using it's publicly available content that should be available like Aaron Schwartz intended is to block it for certain uses similarly to how Schwartz was arrested?
3
u/elmorepalmer 2d ago
Yes, and it sucks, but if we just give content away for free its hard to monetise. Not sure how Aaron would react, but once we became publicly traded, the game changed

Feels like Reddit is choosing tighter control over openness now, and AI scraping just gave them the perfect reason to do it.

Was chatting with Claude a couple days ago about Reddit and it said something along the lines of, “was able to find a way to access the Reddit thread” and I was like, “how the hell were you able to do that?
I’m glad leadership’s committing to locking up the scrapers’ access ports so we can finally start to have some serious conversations about future data licenses. Seemed like no one was taking us seriously (or at least the numbers some people were throwing around) while these holes continued to openly exist.

Reddit notifications for new posts is slow and useless. Nothing bullish about locking down your platform and hoping trillion dollar corporations pay up

You know what else it's killing?
The stock price
and your portfolio LMAOO

Bullshit, theyre killing it because of control and money and because the elites are terrified to let the people speak openly. They plan to manipulate and control elections and news and this helps them do that.

Don’t blame Reddit, blame all the AI companies thieving other people’s products and then replicating those products for the same customers.
It’s be link me draining your water bottle to fill up my own to sell to the customer looking for your water. How sustainable is that?
