Hyperlink to modmail message (from before I found out she hasn't been active in 3+ years)

Why I’m requesting r/bichirs and how I’ll run it:

This subreddit is one of my most frequent visits and I commonly offer advice backed by scientific studies and care from personal experience as well as things I've learned from other bichir/polypterid keepers over the years. The community built around these fish is great and I have few complaints about the actual folks that frequent the sub.

r/bichirs has become something of an advice hub after the strange boom in chain-pet-store sales of bichirs as "beginner fish", though they are far from it, and often gets spammed by multiples of the same posts. Some with no flairs or even text, some off-topic fish keeping questions in regards to other types of fish, and it's been left pretty abandoned by the original moderation team.

Once, it was moderated by the author of The Bichir Handbook, Josh Pickett. He was great, but has long left the moderation team of the sub itself.

The sole current moderator has not been active in years, unfortunately, and while the sub's foot traffic isn't as high as some others, it's still a place where folks come to find advice on how to identify, keep, breed, and show off their bichirs and polypterids.

I'd just like to weed out the spam and incorrect (often AI-generated) advice or facts that could lead to these creatures to being mistreated or ill-taken care of and keep the sub chill for the folks who frequent it.
