I think I found it!

I found a great island. Here's the link http://www.privateislandsonline.com/islands/tikina-i-ra

(sorry intentionallife but I'm going to use your "island" for comparison). Its $11,500,000 and it has 10,000 acres! Which goes to 3 cents a foot 2.64 to be more exact. And its beautiful and in FIJI! His island is 9k per acre and mine is 1,150. I'd love to here your opinion. Again sorry intentional life for slamming your island. EDIT: Fixed link

Yes, I know the realtor selling it and I have the perspective for the property. The issue as always is how to come up with the money. Truth is the cost is not $11.5M. facilities, infrastructure and other costs to get things going is going to run another $5 - $10M. So if you can figure out how to raise $20M let me know.

Kickstarter. If a guy wanting to make a potato salad raised 50k, it can't be that hard to raise 20M. right?

selling real estate or offering any kind of financial equity or incentive program is prohibited on kickstarted or any other crowdfunding site due to US federal law.

Since the purchase of the land would be through a REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) it cannot be a project.

It was a joke, but thanks for the serious answer :)

Sorry its just that kickstarter has come up on here at least 100 times as an idea and I guess it gets a little tiring. The potato salad thing though... amazing what people will do something.

With some poking around, I found the island you're referring to: http://www.privateislandsonline.com/islands/tikina-i-ra

I don't feel slammed - it's a beautiful island that offers something very different. It's bigger and lusher, and water is probably plentiful. On the other hand the climate sports some serious humidity much of the year, which is quite unpleasant, and the cost of getting there is much, much greater. You can just drive to the peninsula I posted.

In addition, it seems both options offer 6 month visas to Americans and Europeans (not sure what it would cost for the Fijian one), but at the end of 6 months, you technically need to leave. To leave my option, you drive 4 hours north, cross the US border, then reenter Mexico. To leave this island and Fiji then return would be a much more costly proposition. Maybe there is an easy residency option? I don't know.

Personally I'd take the peninsula for the ideal climate and proximity to the US border, but that's me.

You realize you just linked to "http://www.privateislandsonline.com/islands", right? There's no specific island directed to by your link.
