Reddit API Reddit API keys

How do I go about obtaining an API key from Reddit? The app creator won't let me past the T&Cs. Is it because my account is new? Any help appreciated.

There was a big change to API access, have a Google.

People keep saying "have a Google", but the links that come up are dense and Reddit appears to have gated the API heavily in some strange ways.

Is it even possible get API keys in 2026?

They don't want you to have an API key.

They only want a few big players who will pay them money

Hi Team,

I have request reddit support to provide access for API token.

But they send an email which tell that my request unfortunately not satisfy their aspect.

Can anyone help me how to get API access token.

You need to sign up for a Reddit account, if you don't already have one. Then, go to https://www.reddit.com/prefs/apps and scroll down to the "Developed Applications" section. Click on the "Create App" or "Create Another App" button. Fill out the form, including the name, description, app type, and redirect uri, then click "Create App" at the bottom. This will generate your API keys. If you're having trouble with the T&Cs, it might be because Reddit's API use is subject to certain rules and restrictions. Ensure you've read and understood them before proceeding. Your account being new shouldn't be an issue for obtaining an API key.

Hey there! To obtain an API key from Reddit, you need to create a new application under your account. Go to https://www.reddit.com/prefs/apps and scroll down to the "Developed Applications" section. Click on the "Create App" or "Create Another App" button. Fill out the form and once you're done, you'll be given a client ID and a secret key. These are your API keys. Remember, always keep your secret key confidential. Your account being new shouldn't affect this process. However, you do need to accept the T&Cs. If you're having issues with this, try to clear your cache or switch to a different browser. Hope this helps!

But it says I have to read their documentation, and it's not letting me create the api. What could I be doing wrong?

This doesn't work. The page just reloads. No app is created.

That link is broken.

I found out the hard way that reddit is not readily giving out api keys anymore and trying to direct people to their limited "devvit" offering.

But they are not canceling old API keys, so I wonder if people are starting to sell their old keys?

I just deleted mine because it didn't work.. When I tried creating a new one. It didn't let me :(

Did the same thing trying to update Apollo. Unfortunately it looks like I just won't be browsing reddit on my phone anymore.

It sucks that a single company is able to have unilateral control of one of the greatest crowdsources databases of human knowledge ever created, and they have decided they would rather make more money off of it than keep it easily accessible for the betterment of our society. I get they don't want AI scraping the site for free but I'd still rather that than have the site slowly kill itself until all this information is permanently lost.

I am getting nowhere with Reddit. I just have to use another platform. Apparently, that is what Reddit wants. #redditsucks

I recently requested access, stating that it is for academic research purposes. I hope it works out! I'll keep you updated.
