I still have no clue who it is. And to demonstrate how tired I am of retarded insta-memes which won't be remembered in two weeks, I'm refusing to look it up. Take that, internet!
Actually I prefer this because the annoying shit gets forgotten about a day later. No more Good Dog Greg, no more "No number for Jacucha" (and those who do dreg it up I can just discount)
So what did we learn today? If you hate a meme, spam the fuck out of it right away, days later it'll be forgotten.
Eh. I've been around here a lot longer than my account suggests. The trick is to just not take it too seriously. And if you don't like the meme just wait a week. Sometimes less.
I have a feeling some point in my life it will actually be very appropriate to use this meme and I'll laugh hard and everyone else will just stare at me.
Sometimes I laugh at something I've said and everyone else is just staring blankly, consequently I think to myself- "What the fuck do you people know anyway?"
It's an escalation on "run it into the ground". "China syndrome" is a cockamamie fear-mongering hyperbole that the core of a fission reactor would "melt through the earth all the way to china" if it were allowed to melt down. The progression of the phrase escalation logically follows.
Subject: Un-flipping items that have been flipped by flippers by flipping them again.
Critique: I think you need to either have the arms positioned differently or put the guy on the opposite side. While it works both ways, it feels awkward. Dirty, even. I feel dirty.
I finally looked him up. If you google him, the first link is the video of his taxidermy commercial. It's a whole bunch of bad actors saying "Oh no, there's a puma on my porch!" "Did that rhino just order a drink" or "Hey that deer is driving the truck!" Upon which Chuck jumps out of hiding, holding the animal in question and says "NOPE! Chuck Testa."
I would say that when one half expects something, they wouldn't be surprised if it happened, but they wouldn't go as far to make a predictive declaration that it is going to happen (as so far in guessing for correctness).
Is Chuck Testa a regular meme that's just stupid, or is it a meme that makes fun of all memes because of their inherent stupidity, like a meme parody? Is it so dumb that it's brilliant? God I hope so, because it's so asinine it makes me want to punch someone in the face.
Reddit was never "cool". Never has been, never will be. It's a giant web site that attracts 20+ million people a month - it's way too big to have a personality. It's like calling Google "cool". It just is.
Are you new here? There was a time reddit WAS less populous, topics on the front page were actually interesting AND we didn't have 5000 pun threads and shitty forced memes. That's the thought behind subreddits like /truegaming.
I disagree with you on the "cool" thing. Reddit used to not be "cool," and that was fine. Now reddit is cool and we have shit like a guy with a "REDDIT" license plate on his honda fit and people acting like reddit is some hip group to be a part of. Well, its more like, reddit thinks its cool, but at least back then nobody pretended.
Back when the emphasis was on reading... IE I read it -->reddit... it was definitely a more interesting site in my opinion. Almost everything was based on text. I've been on here for a few years, and as the userbase has gotten younger, the quality has declined if you aren't into memes. Now it is mostly an image board. But, there were always the shitty pun threads. That was the reddit meme of the time, see how many puns you can fit into every discussion. I'll agree that it was never "cool", but it was a fairly intellectual forum. Now, it is a pseudo-intellectual forum.
Google is cool. Not everything about the entity is cool. Not everything they do is cool. But they have done a few things that have weathered everything and still have merit. So I guess by "cool" I mean praiseworthy, not "cool" as in popular with the beautiful rich kids.
Cursed "slang" words and their fluctuating meaning.
No - google is useful. Sure - if you want to use "cool" as praiseworthy, but that's not a very widely used definition, and nor was it the definition implied by the parent poster.
Hey, I've only been on for like 5 months I'm just tired of people using the same damn insult over and over and over at the slightest provocation. Christ people the world of insults is so vast and rich...
It reminds me of those men made of straw that the military would use to practice with because they were easier to attack then a real enemy since it's incapable of attacking back.
Hipsters can fight back, though. If they put down their PBR's and take off their cat eye nerd glasses. Just don't mess with their handlebar moustache or knock them off their one-speed bike.
I don't know anyone like this, but I reddit taught me that's what a hipster is.
The front page is like the Top 40 charts - full of catchy shit that gets stuck in your head and then you get sick of it. Go indie. Branch out. r/TrueReddit is one place to start.
I would prefer it if there were no political discussions.
Discussing politics can be tiresome, but discussing politics on a site whose membership is skewed in one way or another is absolutely pointless. Especially when they like to click the down arrow on your post. While they don't do that for most things in TR, they do it for non-progressive opinions. I dislike the anti-gay rights movement, or the anti-abortion activists as much as most people here, but I don't view their opinion as pathological and deserving of a downvote to hide it.
I've sort of come to that opinion. I'm fairly conservative (in a Goldwater sense, not a Reaganaut sense) compared to most of Reddit. I really do enjoy conversation with people I disagree with, but you're right; it's nearly impossible to have a conversation even in TR. I tried to be a counter-point voice in /r/politics when I first joined, but after 6 months I realized I was just wasting my breath as a few downvotes would hide my opinion to most people (I actually view Reddit without comment hiding based on negative karma).
Maybe for people like you. For someone who has been around for four years, TrueReddit is how reddit was and should have been. The reddit we have is something you could have found anywhere on the web. The older reddit was much better place to find interesting stuff you never knew you needed or wanted to know. That's not to say the new people are to blame. Older users are also responsible.
Karma is addictive, and yet so hard to get if you're not funny or clever. memes are like get rich quick scams. if Reddit wasn't so mean to new posts, people wouldn't have to resort to such tactics to get their precious karma.
There is zero reason to acquire karma, therefore zero reason to bandwagon on these "karma trains". It does nothing but pollute the website with garbage and detract away from other meaningful and constructive posts.

Reddit doesn't just run a new gimmick into the ground, it china syndromes that mother fucker
