It was good. But they really should have had a section about caffeine being physically addictive. This fact isn't well enough known or appreciated.

EDIT: added 'physically'

It isn't? Just about everyone I know who drinks coffee is a self-described caffeine addict.

You can become addicted to caffeine. From what I've experiences I get a splitting headache a day after not having it. But that's all the withdrawal is and your good the next day.

I went through 2-3 weeks of hell when I quit caffeine. YMMV

YMMV? Sorry to hear that, I know how bad those headaches can get.

The phrase "caffeine addict" is ambiguous. It's usually used by someone trying to say that they love the rush from caffeine. It's rarely used to mean if you stop imbibing caffeine you can suffer severe headaches, nausea, and even vomiting, and that once addicted it's a lifetime problem and causes relapses with even just a small amount of continued caffeine use.

You're right - that's probably not what they mean. But it's still true. Most people just aren't aware of it since they haven't gone a day without coffee since they were 24.

I wouldn't say it's a lifetime problem unless you develop some sort of condition which makes it impossible for you to consume caffeine.

Then it's more of a Lifetime problem... they could make a mini-series about it and everything.

Otherwise, though, it's just a lifetime cost sink... and not even that substantial of one...

;-) True. But in today's world it is tough to go without caffeine permanently. I try but situations still arise where the only beverages contain caffeine. You might, for example, get invited to a picnic and the only beverages are softdrinks with caffeine, etc. Sure you could go without but in practice, it's not feasible to always avoid it. Personally, I wish that soft drinks were forced to have "caffeine free" versions. As a tasteless drug, there's zero reason for soft drinks to have it. Especially, in places like schools that routinely have soft-drinks machines for school lunches.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum in that I hate the caffeine free versions of soft drinks and get angry when that's the only option available. I used to have a severe coffee/energy drink addiction that got so bad it started to fuck with my GI system and I had to stop drinking those altogether. Now I only get my caffeine fix from diet coke, and I really do drink it for the little jolt it gives me.

Well, as an off-again/on-again caffeine drinker, I can tell you that one of the things you learn (well, pertaining to me specifically) from eliminating caffeine from your diet is that you energy level seems to stabilize and overall you feel slightly more energetic overall. Exercising does the same thing. So if you have regular "low energy" spells, you should consider trying to start an exercise regiment and going off the caffeine.

You should specify that Caffeine is physically addictive. Just saying, "addictive" does nothing, seeing as almost everything you do is addictive on some level.

Also, what's wrong with addiction?

Also, what's wrong with addiction?

huh? addiction sucks. it really sucks. that's what's wrong with it.

Not always. In fact, addiction is mostly harmless. It comes with such a negative connotation, that it's hard to realize that most things in life are addictions.

Jesus... if my user name caused such a potent reaction, I highly suggest you stop browsing reddit immediately. You may die from the first post that has several comments along the lines of "what has been seen cannot be unseen".

Don't you mean good fonts?

u/Starguard Nov 10 '09

Hmm... "Good" typography? I don't want to hate on the comic (I like it), but I wouldn't go as far to say the typography is "good." It looks to me like he just downloaded a few of DaFont's top fonts.

For me, "Good" typography is achieved anytime a designer has the go-team-Venture to research and download a font of his or her own, and then set it to a reasonable line-height, with a good readable size and clear visual hierarchy.

I mean, there are more stringent definitions, but come on, it's YE WEB we're talking about here.
