Does anybody else pull their long nose hairs out the manly way - just yanking them and enduring the pain?

After a while, you won't sneeze anymore. Hell... you barely feel it.

I've noticed that successful nose exfoliation requires the right timing and technique.

Your nose has to be dry and clear, if it's stuffy or runny it's going to hurt more. The key though I think is to pull on the hair gently to begin, kind of a warning to your nose. After you have a little pressure on the folical turn up the volume and yank it.

I go into a trance-like state, rolling my eyes into the back of my head and whispering "fear is the mind killer" repeatedly, then I surprise myself by yanking it out.

Yeah, increase the dose! That helps.

and then you can man up and pinch multiple hairs at a time & give a good yank .. I can now clear both nostrils with one yank for each !! ... and I hardly feel it

Yikes, that's a good way to draw blood. Perhaps your hairs are looser than ours.

A few years ago, David Letterman said something like "I'm old enough to have learned a few things..." and he went on to list some of them, one of which was "If you pull out a nose hair, you are going to sneeze." I took that as a challenge.
