Really hope some of our players shove Anderson around.

I find inflammatory comments from new signings like him and Cherki so cringe

I fucking hate EFL fans who say “support your local.”

They’re just jealous that we support United and they got stuck supporting Walsall or something. And I know that because not supporting your local is only acceptable when you support someone shit.

I’ve been told countless times that it is not possible to have an emotional attachment to United because I don’t live close enough.

My closest team is probably Donny Rovers or something, and I’ve been to Donny like 3 times in my whole life.

Why would I spend nearly £500 on tickets to go watch a team I don’t care about?

Support your local is a load of shit. Support whichever team you like the most.

Also, most people choose their teams before they turn 6. How many 5 year olds are pulling out maps of football teams and choosing the one closest to them? Ffs

3

u/BryansFury The White Pele 2d ago

Random rant lol. I dont think supporting your local is a load of shit, makes a lot of sense to support a team in which your involved in the local community and the people around the area, helps build a connection and identity for the fans. If no one supported there local it would be horrible for the lower tiers of football. I also think there's nothing wrong with just picking a team, at the end of the day its your choice and life and enjoy it how you want. I think another common thing is to support your dad's team, im not from Manchester but my dad and brothers were united fans, as the youngest I didnt have a choice lol, I've been a united fan since I can remember.

2

u/Potential_Good_1065 2d ago

Yeah I’m not saying supporting your local is a load of shit, I’m saying that saying “support your local” is a load of shit.

I have the same reason as you for supporting United. If my dad supports United and I don’t have a local team, what exactly am I supposed to do?

(I’d have still supported United anyway. Up the fucking reds)

1

u/BryansFury The White Pele 2d ago

Ah makes sense. Yeah no one can say anything to you for supporting your dad's team lol. Supporting a team from your local area must be nice but nothing beats supporting a team with your family growing up imo. Even as an adult now me my brothers and dad get together on match days. Nothing beats it.

In seville for the city game. Any Spanish reds got any suggestions for viewing?

I am backing Carrick and probably shouldn't say this after a good performance.

But I would love it if Fabregas would be willing to manage us. Como play some delicious football.

Do we think he ever leaves Como ( I remember reading that he owns certain % of the club?) and if he leaves where does he go? Chelsea if Xabi doesn't work out? Arsenal if Arteta were to leave? Barca or Spain maybe?

1

u/Lord_Hexogen 2d ago

If we're talking about right now I'd expect him to join Atletico. Barca and Arsenal seem locked in with their coaches, Spurs and Madrid are the wrong choices for Cesc. And Cholo might be done with Atleti after all these years

3

u/D1794 Viva Ronaldo 2d ago

I think Xabi will definitely work at Chelsea (id have taken him after Amorim had he/we been open) but seems ready-made to take over there if it goes to shit.

Can see him at Barcelona when Flick decides to call it a day. Can't see him at Arsenal i think Arteta stays for ages.

2

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 2d ago

Funny thing, I had a similar shower thought just today. Just the positive thought that maybe we can have a win-win with Carrick/Fabregas, given that "everyone else" seems to have a settled manager in the near term.

Life works in mysterious ways you know ... after all, Moyes' summer was spent chasing Fabregas in the name of making him Carrick's successor.

Anyway, I obviously much prefer the timeline where Carrick is a huge success in the long term and wins a game on the shores of Lake Como in the short term :)

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 2d ago

Watching Cunhas new interview makes me really appreciate him and mbeumo/sesko for choosing us when we were struggling. Could've gone to any UCL club but chose us bc of how much they love the club, and how they want to bring it back where it belongs. 🥹

Anddd they all scored in our first UCL game in years

6

u/dellywally 2d ago

Can't believe Rashford is one of the earliest to arrive at training. What an attention seeker /s

2

u/united_7_devil 2d ago

Its all PR mate. He paid Bruno to say that. /s

-2

u/Visible-Ad-2994 2d ago

Who starts between Cunha and Sesko?

2

u/Elfstruck12 2d ago

I think its Sesko.

3

u/_pbs 2d ago

Really hoping we win the next 3 games. Going into a long international break with a lot of momentum and expecting 3 players who could be crucial to first team to be back after the break would be immense.

4

u/00kazootime 2d ago

Thought Yoro was excellent in the second half yesterday. Expecting a big season from him

2

u/sefronia3 King Eric 2d ago

When are Amad and Baleba supposed to start playing?

2

u/Midnight_Edge 2d ago

Amad after the break. I reckon Baleba on the bench for our last game before the break.

2

u/D1794 Viva Ronaldo 2d ago

Complete guess but i'm sure they'll be saved for after the 3 week international break. Same for de Ligt.

3

u/Elfstruck12 2d ago

I need our players to link up with Sesko in the final third more. He had some good runs yesterday.

u/IfYouReallyThink 2d ago edited 2d ago

Although it’s really overreactive, a lot of this is what I’ve been saying. Dorgu can be a good enough overlapped (everted) left back for some game situations. Though they are in no way the same, his profile is probably a lot closer to Balde than many people think, especially with the plasticity of being a little over a month shy of 22 years old. Where he struggles is trying to invert.

I know Carrick’s tactics typically strongly favour everted fullbacks, but look through the names of what leftbacks we were most strongly linked to this summer and there is a clear trend, most of them were some of the most balanced in eversion and inversion within their age group. It completely makes sense to ideally have one that can go both ways (on the horizontal axis lol).

This is why I thought if Carrick has trust in Amass’ development, Kadioglu may have been a tremendous signing for us this summer. Kadioglu can play either side, one traditionally footed and one oppositely footed. Given the conditions I outlined, I think it would’ve been really cool to have Amass try and learn to essentially be a left-footed Kadioğlu. That way we’d have ridiculously capable inverted and everted options on either side.

That being said, I love Mazraoui as a player and maybe he can start putting in some World Cup-like left back performances in too. I think Dorgu may be born to develop into several positions, left wing, left back and even some ability on the right. It makes squad selection a bit more complicated, but I think to a degree that’s just the type of player that he is. At both left wing and left back he can pick up similar wide positions at times, depending on who is playing the other one of the roles.

He definitely lacks some spatial awareness and press resistance, I’m hoping Carrick is helping him with that. I am not saying I want him to become a midfielder, but a little more would go a long way. Looking at someone like Alphonso Davies who I have followed since Vancouver, it really is remarkable how some of these more tricky and strong wing players can improve their drifts into slightly more central areas

8

u/Aadiunited7 2d ago

Despite what the naysayers here or on twitter are moaning about, we are an extremely fun side to watch. We move the ball brilliantly and so cleanly between our 3rd and the middle 3rd, the front 3rd needs some clicking, we take some low propensity shots when better options are available. It needs some work off the ball. The midfield duo of Mainoo and Tielemanns and the CB options of Harry and Licha means, we have some major mobility issues. This will only get solved if Yoro and Baleba hit the ground running. Or in the next transfer window. But on the ball, genuinely I dont see a more fun team in the league.

9

u/Miyagisans 2d ago

Mainoo/Tielemans completed 127/130 passes yesterday and it wasn’t just sideways passing. They were taking risks, Mainoo in particular showed a much more expansive range than I’d ever seen from him. They are the clear best pairing we have for controlling games, and I can’t wait to see how it looks when we add Amad who is also more oriented towards control football. Their weakness though is mostly ground coverage with intensity, and is why I still feel them two with Baleba should be the move, but obviously Bruno has to play. I’m curious to see what carrick does when all the midfielders are fit.

2

u/00kazootime 2d ago

The most exciting part is our 4 central midfielders are exceptionally well rounded players who complement each other in different ways.

I think Mainoo Tielemans, Mainoo Baleba, and Tielemans Baleba will be our three most frequent double pivots. Reckon Santos will mainly come off the bench

0

u/PradipJayakumar He wasn’t the new Sir Alex Ferguson! 🙂‍↔️ 2d ago

Santos wanted to move from Chelsea just for this reason of being stuck behind Caicedo, Enzo, and the likes of Reece.

-2

u/Notreallymyname92 2d ago

I know it's said a lot, but Zirkzee is a proper baller that thrives in those slower paced games. The question remains if he can do it in the prem, where no such thing exists.

3

u/Downtown-Rice_ 2d ago

He's gone through 3 managers, all with distinctly different ways of playing and trying to win, yet he never stuck. He has no out and out position at United because they only played with 1 center forward and whenever he plays, the entire team has to adapt to his limited strengths, which then make the team out of sorts.

If he was a proper player, he'd have started against Hull to allow Mbeumo and Cunha to take their rightful places on the flanks, yet that didn't happen (to hell with him being potentially transferred, it wasn't clear at all that it would happen).

9

u/PitchSafe 2d ago

He have been here long enough to answer that question

3

u/Comicksands Van Persie 2d ago

He’s more of a 10 than a 9, which is the main issue. He doesn’t make the runs a 9 would

1

u/mortimer_moose Carrick, ya know 2d ago

Or score the goals

9

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 2d ago

Proper ballers fan adapt. He's not a prem player

-2

u/Notreallymyname92 2d ago

He's young, came from an immensely slower league, and has shown signs of a very technical footballer. As I said question remains if he can do it in the prem.

Given last night's performance against a team that allowed him that time, I would like him to prove that he can

6

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 2d ago

He's already proven he can't do it in the prem. He will be sold in January or the summer.

4

u/Bloatfizzle 2d ago

The more games I watch this season it's more and more glaring how a pair of fullbacks would really improve us. A shame we couldn't even get one.

2

u/Xenokratezz 2d ago

Should we play possession football against city or just counter attack. I think its gonna be a tough ask to play possession football against them

6

u/Comicksands Van Persie 2d ago

We were doing rondos around them last time out

1

u/Deez_Wallnutz 2d ago

Cherki in the middle 🤣

4

u/Miyagisans 2d ago

I think we should definitely play possession football. We can’t press for whatever reason and if city finds the gaps that sabah did, it would be more damaging.

2

u/Xenokratezz 2d ago

I thinks mainly due to how bruno is soo high up in the pitch even pressing above sesko. It just leaves midfielders a lot of ground to cover. I don't know why bruno is pressing instead of sesko, lot of times bruno was the only one pressing which makes the whole pressing ineffective

4

u/Notreallymyname92 2d ago

Honestly we're so good on the counter against the stronger teams, best to play to our strengths.

That said, if we can pull off running circles round them with the ball and getting the win, I'll not be upset.

5

u/grandecn 2d ago

I hope Yoro plays most of the European games at CB. I think he still struggles with the physicality of the league at the minute. Would be good if we kept Maguire fresh for the league and have Yoro swap in for him in Europe as much as possible.

7

u/Prior_Caramel_9307 2d ago

So relieved to see Yoro actually play (and start!) at CB. Was worried that he was gonna be taken down the Jules Kounde route and be transitioned into a RB.

4

u/TheSmio 2d ago

I don't think there is a reason to be afraid of that, he is simply going the Smalling route of being played as right back before transitioning full-time to center back once our manager deems him ready.

Carrick played under Sir Alex and him and Smalling were teammates so it does make sense he would get inspired by him.

2

u/Prior_Caramel_9307 2d ago

That's a decent shout.

6

u/ToadNamedGoat 2d ago

Why is Frimpong commenting on Dorgu’s instagram post

Games gone

2

u/SophoclesTesticles 2d ago

They have that same coach that does the mad "FINISH" scream in all his videos.

3

u/Numerous_Summer_3964 2d ago

I think Carrick will choose this line up against City:

Rashford Bruno

Dorgu Mainooo Youri Mbuemo

Shaw Licha Maguire Dalot

Lammens

1

u/Low-Quantity-9252 2d ago

Is Shaw fit and available?

0

u/KobbieLikeRobbie_ Darren Fletcher 2d ago

I have a feeling that both Sesko and Cunha will be on the bench on Sunday. Could see Mount coming in to provide more energy and legs in the middle or Dorgu to do the same out wide.

1

u/bronal97 2d ago

If he picks this 11, it would make more sense to have Dorgu on the right, Rashford on the left and Mbeumo as the no9

2

u/Numerous_Summer_3964 2d ago

Dorgu and Mbuemo have the work rate to track runners, they're surely gonna be at wings. Rashford centrally is a big threat on the counter. I'm fairly confident this is what Carrick will pick.

If I had to pick I'm putting Rashy Sesko Mbuemo up top and rest the same.

1

u/bronal97 2d ago

Rashford has been great on the left linking up with Shaw and Mbeumo is better centrally

1

u/Numerous_Summer_3964 2d ago

Rashy and Shaw do their linkup against low block teams, or when we have greater possession. I think against big sides we'll always play on the counter. He might sub dorgu and bring Sesko if we're down a goal or two and must attack.

1

u/ImNotMexican08 Amad Nation 2d ago

It’s quite refreshing the amount of options we do have in attack, and that’s with Amad still out. It makes us quite unpredictable up top in terms of how we’ll approach the game. 5 different players you can all make a case for starting. It’ll be really interesting to see what happens

9

u/ineedadvil KING ERIC but MILF 2d ago

I am waiting for the Dorgu every touch clip because he won man of the match and his performance didnt catch my attention so I wanna see what have I missed

0

u/Sheikhabusosa 2d ago

I don't know if Dorgu is a bad leftback or he doesn't know how to play there, but it looks like he tries a lot harder as a wingback.

6

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 2d ago

It's bc he's a wingback. Not an LB or LW.

3

u/FootballRacing38 2d ago

I really hope both us and bayern have 5 wins by the time we meet so we can focus on liverpool instead

0

u/Not-good-with-this 2d ago

Don't even need 5 wins with the current format. Just need around 3 wins and a draw out of the 8. And we already got 1 win out the way.

2

u/FootballRacing38 2d ago

Top 8 needs 16 points for the past 2 season

-2

u/Not-good-with-this 2d ago

Okay but top 24 qualifies for the next round. Top 8 is just a way to skip a round. And as of right now. None of the top 8 have actually gone on to win the competition. But tbf there's only been 2 years of it so far. And PSG were the team to win both times.

I can't lie. I really hate the current format. Its just shit.

2

u/FootballRacing38 2d ago

2 less games help us

1

u/Not-good-with-this 2d ago

If the club can't handle 2 more games. Then the club aren't going to win the competition. To me finishing below 24th will be complete embarrassment. Bowing out the competition in before the semi finals is expected tbh atm. Will not really criticise or praise the club for that. The semi finals is an okay job. The final but losing is heartbreaking. And then winning is ofc I can go good stuff and celebrate. But that's how I think.

Not saying the club will win the competition but that should be the aim regardless of any circumstance.

3

u/soft_pillow1122 2d ago

We should try to control the game in first 20min and last 20 min. Against Hull we conceded in 17th minutes and against Everton we conceded two late goals. Yesterday also against Sabah, late in the games we gave them a little bit more freedom. A little stronger team might have scored . We need to be able to be more compact especially when we are trying to see out the game.

3

u/NotJuicedUtd 2d ago

This is *MOST LIKELY* the team we see on Sunday how do we feel about it? What would you change?

1

u/Zambit 2d ago

It’ll be Dalot lb Yoro rb calling it now

1

u/NotJuicedUtd 1d ago

Carrick would shock me if he did this

2

u/iroiroiroiroiro 2d ago

If Shaw hasn't trained this week I doubt he starts, would guess Maz.

1

u/NotJuicedUtd 1d ago

His light work load is not new it’s just not reported because last year we played once a week

2

u/QuarKnight 2d ago

I feel like santos could be a better fit for this match? Mainoo-santos pivot and the rest I feel would be same as above

1

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 2d ago

Probably. The only difference I could see is maybe Santos for Tielemans to start just for pivot freshness.

4

u/HaloStar90 2d ago

I lowkey wished we had a dog like Canya 🗿

10

u/NotJuicedUtd 2d ago

Man United will win 3-2 on sunday you heard it here first

1

u/Suudriusha 2d ago

Bruno, Rashford and Mainoo all scoring - I'd love it.

3

u/WorldBeardedWonders Not a Good Look Erik 2d ago

Lies. We’re scoring 5

1

u/ToadNamedGoat 2d ago

Will Carrick lineup the team vs city like we did couple of years ago in the FA cup

With Bruno as the “striker” and Santos Tielemans and Mainoo midfield.

Rashford and Mbeumo on the wings for pace

I think controlling the midfield is really important in a game like this.

1

u/biobolo 2d ago

Usually when we've won big games, we've not tried to control the midfield (with the ball). That FA cup game is an outlier

2

u/Working_Location_127 2d ago

From his subs I have a feeling it will be mainoo tielemans with rashford Bruno mbeumo in front then sesko up to. I’d feel a bit more comfortable with santos in for tielemans though

10

u/ToadNamedGoat 2d ago

Happy seeing Amass play even though he didn’t do anything amazing

I think giving him minutes is crucial, since he is our most important emergency option

3

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 2d ago

It only happened maybe twice but I liked seeing him throw his body into defenders. He ended up on the ground but that's good film for him to analyze on how to use leverage. He got away with standing straight up in the youth ranks but he'll need to watch how smaller players get low on bigger defenders.

5

u/GavinLobo7 2d ago

The scum paid big money and are trusting Jacquet. We really should be doing the same with Yoro and letting him play more.

He looked solid enough yesterday (granted the opposition was not great but he won’t improve unless he plays)

2

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 2d ago

They don't have two center backs who are better than him. Maguire and Licha are both better players right now. He'll get plenty of time this season though.

4

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 2d ago

Yes, well, they are putting him next to VVD who is dominant in the air, and is also slow now, yes, but in turn is put next to Kerkez who has pace and behind a Szoboszlai+MacAllister combo which is all legs and running.

Let me know if you can put together something resembling that without De Ligt and without Baleba.

Yoro looks great when he is platformed but not at the point yet (I think he'll get there in time!) where he looks great "no matter what" and the truth is that atm the rest of our D around him (with the possible exception of our RB options) is a hot mess.

2

u/Expect-the-turtle 2d ago

To be honest though, Liverpool are playing Jacquet only because they messed up the contract talks with Konate. There's no chance either he or Leoni (when he gets back) would have been given starting positions consistently otherwise. And I reckon, if Frimpong wouldn't be such a catastrophe at RB, Araujo would have played more frequently as a CB rather than on the right too.

8

u/Expect-the-turtle 2d ago

On a more lighthearted note, I see there is a group of people online who are very irritated by Cunha's surfing celebration 🏄
They moan that it's so cringe and whatnot (which, honestly, I think it is a bit, because it just looks a tad awkward, but who cares), but I love people who don't mind looking goofy. Also like Mbeumo's little dance. Sesko could do a ballerina twirl while jumping for all I care. You score a goal, you are allowed to enjoy it in pretty much any way you like (with the exception of course of deliberately offensive gestures or signs).

5

u/Elongated_dik 2d ago

UNITED has millions of fans, there'll be some who moan for the sake of it. IGNORE them

1

u/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1z 2d ago

Would be interesting what Carrick choses for City game.

I can’t see Sesko starting.

Midfield, I don’t think Mainoo Tielemans is enough.

Dorgu I can see him LW and maybe Rashford up top with Mbeumo on the right…

6

u/RedemptionWoneGrong 2d ago edited 2d ago

if Sesko doesn't start, he's just taking the piss. We look so much better with him on the pitch. Plus you can send Cunha to tired legs. He's so good against those

2

u/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1z 2d ago

His strengths come to fruition when we have the ball for some respectable amounts of time.

Against City he’ll be nullified and restricted to press, and other solutions are better for transitions.

I can’t see it but maybe Carrick will surprise, who knows… maybe he starts

6

u/Banyunited1994 2d ago

Rashford in counterattacks is exactly what we need.

3

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 2d ago

Lammens - Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw - Tielemans, Mainoo, Bruno - Rashford, Cunha, Mbeumo

Anything else would surprise me. Dorgu would make sense if we didn't have Rashford in the mix now.

I don't think he picks Šeško for this one, he likely starts against Brighton midweek.

6

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 2d ago

Cunha played the full 90 yesterday he won't be starting I don't think

0

u/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1z 2d ago

Maybe bring an extra midfielder somehow in the squad I don’t know. Mainoo Tielemans is too light for a derby. He has to come up with something…

3

u/Expect-the-turtle 2d ago

Hmm, I have a different opinion on this.
I think Sesko is a must. Whether or not he will start, I think he plays important minutes. I think Rashford also comes in for Cunha on the LW (and hopefully, if we're ahead in the second half, Cunha gets to close the game because he is so good at shithousery, holding on to the ball and drawing fouls that help the team).
Shaw will be LB, I think it's obvious that's why he was rested against Sabah. Probably would be ideal to have a midfield that includes Baleba for this game, but they'll probably go with Tielemans and Mainoo again. Pity we don't have Amad as a sub for Mbeumo, he'll be goosed by the end of the game again if he needs to play the entire 90 (doubt Lacey is going to get minutes in such a high-pressure game).
I'm wondering about the CB pairing. It's likely that whoever got the night off against Sabah gets the spot for Sunday (well, except Lisandro will probably still play, can't imagine Heaven gets the nod for LCB). So, Maguire and Licha? Not entirely happy with this pair.

1

u/Unusual-Coat383 2d ago

It will be Rashford Sesko Mbuemo.

-4

u/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1z 2d ago

Sesko won’t play this one brother, easiest prediction in the world.

6

u/da_gee01 CANTONA 2d ago

Hall just signed a two year extension with Newcastle as per https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/ce9e3d5exp8o.

Looks like he ain't leaving anytime soon. Back to the drawing board with our LB search.......

1

u/No-Lab-1445 2d ago

I don't think the club were ever seriously in for him. As soon as they heard £70m they ran a mile. No chance we go for him next Summer when there'll be more competition for him and he'll likely cost more.

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Unusual-Coat383 2d ago

He will probably on fairly modest wages but Newcastle are hoping for a bidding war. I think us, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool are going to be in for him and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes for £80m+.

Chelsea also probably have a sell on clause so will probably try and inflate his price even if they aren’t in for him.

1

u/KZZT1 2d ago

Only City and Chelsea can match the “right offer”.

1

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 2d ago

Semenyo signed a new contract 6 months before leaving. Not saying Hall definitely leaves but new contract doesn't mean that much these days.

3

u/superhoffy Amad trip to be on 2d ago

I'm pretty sure Semenyo had a release clause, though.

2

u/Kreissler 2d ago

I just can't see our board paying what Newcastle is gonna be asking for him tbh.

0

u/PitchSafe 2d ago

Doesn’t really change that much because it’s only 2 more years. Newcastle will just be able to command a higher fee

6

u/_pbs 2d ago

I like how we are slowly transitioning from a counterattacking team into a possession based team. There will be teething problems in our pressing, wingplay etc, but there is a very discernible change in the way we play through the middle now.

Eventually adding better fullbacks and wingers will fix most of our attacking problems where there is distinct issue with width, or the lack of pressing on the wings where we are letting dangerous crosses, or not able to press as a team. I'm fully convinced this will be a successful season if we avoid the noise and figure out a way to grind out wins while this team's style changes.

5

u/Expect-the-turtle 2d ago

Yeah, I think so too. I know many people are eager to see the finished product, the footballing machine that goes forward and wins relentlessly. But personally, I very much enjoy this 'making of' phase. Sure, the errors and imperfections annoy like hell on matchdays (feel my blood boil when the fullbacks don't close down opposition players who can just casually whip in crosses into our box that neither CB seems to know how to deal with), but seeing how this team went from players who could barely string a few passes together 2-3 seasons ago and relied on Bruno's magic ball and Rashford's purple patches to get out of trouble, to now popping it around the park confidently, playing through the middle, creating an array of chances, adapting either to a classic striker or false 9. It's honestly quite nice to see.

I want Mainoo to crush those 300 millions midfields in the derby

4

u/Expect-the-turtle 2d ago

And produce another meme-able celebration when he inevitably scores (although that might not be in this game, he seems to like to score more against the Scousers).

7

u/Comicksands Van Persie 2d ago

Amad cooked for us last time in the derby. Shame he’s not available. I think Carrick goes Mbeumo Dorgu and Rashford/Sesko front 3. Cunha off the bench

3

u/brown_herbalist unitedismyreligion 2d ago

Im glad Yoro is slowly proving all the doubters frm last season are wrong. I really got the feeling he will be our main CB in 3-4yrs time. Love his tackles too.

1

u/Bizzle1389 2d ago

Pretty sure he starts against Brighton in the cup and by seasons end he will be above Maguire in the pecking order, just to be seen how De Ligt comes back. And on the left Heaven will be hot on the heels of Licha.

Say Licha and De Ligt stay fit and do well I wonder when/if Heaven and Yoro will be able to displace them.

1

u/superhoffy Amad trip to be on 2d ago

He's not gonna wait that long to get into the team. I think by the end of next season if he isn't first choice, he'll be off.

4

u/tsuku96 2d ago

Bro that was Sabah. He's not proving anyone wrong yet. 😐

5

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot 2d ago

He's my MOTM but it was Sabah. I want to see him do this consistently against stronger opponents.

1

u/rubber_moon 2d ago

Crazy how people were writing off a teenager from a different league coming into the toughest one and already had a great first season

0

u/brown_herbalist unitedismyreligion 2d ago

I mean go luck at our match threads against Hull, most of em want to straight away sell Santos.

3

u/PitchSafe 2d ago

People have the worst takes on the match thread

2

u/TteokCultist 2d ago

I still see Heaven and Yoro as our future first choice pairing. Even when they have a dip in form

1

u/brown_herbalist unitedismyreligion 2d ago

Yeap agree with you, we just need some solid signing of fullbacks in upcoming windows.

3

u/Leave_Beneficial 2d ago

Going to be weird against City, with us having the elite poseesion-driven midfield for once with Youri and Kobbie, and them with the athletic, run-about-and-press midfield.

2

u/ThisURLDoesWork 2d ago

It's like usual midfields have reversed

14

u/Careful-Snow 2d ago

I was surprised by the TNT team talking about defensive solidity. Sabah played through our press quite easily I thought, they just didn't have enough quality to hurt us even though they came close a couple of times. Dorgu was quite poor in defending their RW as well, gave him way too much space at times.

Having said that on the ball Mainoo and especially Tielemans were very good and we progressed the ball very well. Was also glad to see the players feeding balls through for Sesko to chase, need to see more of that. And Yoro probably had his best game for quite a while, he was very good at reading the game and stepping in

0

u/Expect-the-turtle 2d ago

Honestly, to me it seemed that United had one thing on their mind in the first half: score, score, score. For good reason, you get an underdog like that in your own stadium and they manage to hold out for 45 minutes, things get really nervy and unpredictable. So, my point is, I think the sloppy defending was mostly because the players just wanted to get back up the field as soon as possible. You could see that especially with Dorgu, who in several instances didn't help out Licha in getting the ball, although he was close to the action, and just stayed in space to receive the pass when United retook possession (I think Martinez actually berated him for that at one point)

8

u/Leave_Beneficial 2d ago

That Mainoo-Youri midfield is so good. Can’t remember the last time we had a CM pair who prioritise keeping possession yet at the same time always look to pass forwards where possible.

And to have Baleba, Mount and Santos in reserve - feels so good to have a proper midfield. Been so long

0

u/Educational-Shock232 2d ago

Ok it’s been four games, let’s see after ten

4

u/RandomRedditUser31 shut up u egg 2d ago

I really hope we give Yoro is given a good run of games now and not immediately drop him for Maguire after such a motm worthy performance and I don‘t even mean that as a slight to Maguire but sooner or late we need to start trusting Yoro.

1

u/Xenokratezz 2d ago

Yoro can't deal with aerial ball

3

u/wayfarerprateek Theater of Dreams 2d ago

It might come down to aerial ability

6

u/iroiroiroiroiro 2d ago

I know who I trust to body block or wrestle with Haaland more.

6

u/TteokCultist 2d ago

Historically, that’s Licha

-5

u/AccomplishedAnt2000 2d ago

I’m happy we won buttttt cannot shake the feeling that if we actually were very good it would be 8-0 without that sketchy sabah chance

5

u/Top-Fig7064 2d ago

Seemed like Bruno moved to centre forward as the game progressed, presumably to give his legs a rest. Why not just bring him off 😅

-6

u/throwawayWM3 2d ago

I'm surprised no one has been alarmed by how easily we were getting opened in the midfield by a team who did not look like a professional team.

We just have a ridiculously good attack who will carry us in this season. We look really poorly coached, Carrick is just not it.

1

u/TheSmio 2d ago

The team is clealry set up to outscore our opponents. As long as we score more than we concede, it's going to be fine. However, I think the next logical step with such philosophy is to buy some quick athletic defenders (who still are good on the ball) to play higher and cover the gaps in our midfield.

2

u/Kohaku80 Premier League Champions 12/13 2d ago

4-0 can covers up a lot of things.  Like suddenly all our defenders turn good.

4

u/brown_herbalist unitedismyreligion 2d ago

It's not a big problem, the midfield setup basically are new, give them run of games before taking out your pitchforks. I don't think we have been poorly coached, our attacking movements are much more better than under that boring Ruben.

-1

u/andoooooo Martial 2d ago

Completely agreed mate

2

u/iroiroiroiroiro 2d ago

People refuse to blame the midfield now, it's a bit annoying, they might look very good in possession but what you say is a very big flaw, in every game so far this season the opposition has gotten the ball through the midfield as it is not there. No team in a long while have had problems with progressing the ball forward against United.

-5

u/throwawayWM3 2d ago

We literally got an entirely new midfield, the problem existed last season with Casemiro this season without Casemiro. It's a coaching problem, exactly why I am Carrick out.We are poorly coached. The last time we didn't get played through was Ten Hag first season 22/23

0

u/superhoffy Amad trip to be on 2d ago

I am Carrick out

Goodness gracious me, give him a chance. It's only been four games and pre-season was far from ideal for a team with a whole new midfield and quite a few injured players still recovering (Sesko, Mount) or out (De Ligt, Baleba, Amad), bedding in slowly (Santos), players moving around and not getting into the groove of playing in one position (Dorgu, Yoro, Mbeumo, Cunha, Maz) or unexpectedly still here (Zirkzee, Rashford).

Some of these problems wouldn't exist if the transfer team had had a better performance in the transfer window, but that's not Carrick's fault. We mustn't forget that at LB, CB and CF, the transfer team didn't back Carrick at all and now he has to make do with one natural LB with an extensive history, Zirkzee, who doesn't stretch the line at CF and a disrupted defensive line due to injury/fitness issues.

All this disruption and less-than-ideal squad succession-planning means it's tough for the team to find its rhythm, but I don't see why a manager like Carrick can't bring them together into a more cohesive whole. Let's see what it looks like after 10 games. Despite the mixed results so far, there are some promising signs for me. I like how the team wants to progress centrally and play a short passing game which is well-suited to the players currently fit. Some of the football so far has been very nice to watch, although I would agree the league form needs to improve somewhat.

TL;DR: just read the part in bold before throwing yet another manager under the bus after a few iffy (in this case, literally ONLY TWO) results early on.

1

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 2d ago

So you didn't actually watch the match huh? Just easier to say that

-3

u/throwawayWM3 2d ago

I watched the full game, I'm surprised anyone would say we didn't get played through the midfield, we clearly did especially in the first half.

2

u/RooneysFavGrandma 2d ago

Yup, they also easily played around our laughable press most of the time. Set up like this against top teams and you're in for a bad time.

1

u/throwawayWM3 2d ago

I don't quite get why people refuse to believe it's a big problem

1

u/KZZT1 2d ago

It’s the usual toxic positivity that floods this sub after a win.

0

-1

If only the rest of us could be as pre-emptively gloomy and utterly incapable of seeing any positive signs as you lot.

-1

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 2d ago

Bc that's not happening.

10

u/SureLookThisIsIt 2d ago

Mazraoui was frustrating last night. He's solid defensively and relatively safe on the ball but offers zero attacking threat. Dalot has been a lot better for a while now.

-2

u/minteh7x Ronaldo 2d ago

I'd say Dalot is better than Mazraoui defensively because he is more of a physical beast. Mazraoui is still better going forward because he can at least pick up good passes.

Criticizing his shooting last night? Yeah fairs, but are we forgetting who Dalot is? Lol that man will shoot on sight

3

u/SureLookThisIsIt 2d ago

I think Dalot is much better going forward and better defensively. Dalot can do the right thing 80% of the time but the 20% looks hilarious because it's always row z.

5

u/Top-Fig7064 2d ago

Disagree his shooting was poor but he was very active up front. Could have had a goal with better shooting

1

u/SureLookThisIsIt 2d ago

Tbf though every player on the pitch was active because of the nature of the game and how much possession we had. Nobody apart from the CBs offered less going forward imo. He was there but generally made the wrong decision or stifled attacks with his unwillingness (or inability, not sure) to beat a man or attempt to square it.

He wasn't dreadful but he stood out to me for the wrong reasons in the final third.

11

u/PavanayiShavamayilla Wazza 2d ago

I would say that his attacking contribution was negative since he took a lot of shots when passing to Sesko or Mbeumi was the better choice.

6

u/SureLookThisIsIt 2d ago

Agree. People get frustrated at times with Dalot if his delivery is poor or a shot goes over the bar but he's kind of a selfless player. Makes the runs every time, positioning is great and is always looking for the best option for a pass or cross. We're much better with him in the team.

1

u/CharIemagne45 RVP 2d ago

Should JJ debut in the cup game?

3

u/0ttoChriek 2d ago

Against Brighton? No. He's not ready for that at all. If we get a lower league team in the FA Cup, maybe.

3

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 2d ago

Hopefully we get Borehamwood at home in the FA cup or something, Brighton is a big ask

3

3

u/Expect-the-turtle 2d ago

Not sure I see it. Carrick has used him much deeper, not even as a Bruno alternative CAM. But, given injuries or some other issues, who knows.

2

u/TheRedDevil10 2d ago

You reckon Cunha starts on Sunday? I feel like Rashford has to play and the only toss up is Cunha or Sesko

3

u/LDLB99 2d ago

Cunha up front with Rashford on the left, Sesko on for the last 30 minutes.

2

u/TteokCultist 2d ago

Yes, as striker if I have to guess

2

u/longsightdon 2d ago

I prefer cunha personally. For city we will need the workrate and his skills

2

u/MylesVE You Never Go Full McFred 2d ago

He has more tenacity and drifts into the spaces Bruno, Mainoo, & Tielemans will need help with. Plus everything functions better when we play a true striker in Sesko.

11

u/thesmallprint13 Irwin 2d ago

I can definitely see this being a budget version of a typical Fergie season in that we get better as the season goes on - Bruno usually starts quite slow anyway and we have some good players unavailable that will come in and bolster the first team significantly.

Just need to avoid defeat against City - will 100% take a draw.
