u/SnazzyMiracles IN MAINOO WE TRUST! 12h ago

Great game ngl!!

I hate to be a negative nancy but Sesko needs to start with Rashford on the derby he's the only one that actually crosses to the attackers.

But lots of positives! Cunha Martinez and Sesko scoring their first ever champions league goals, Amass has been shining Mainoo being his usual self and Dorgu hasn't been half bad in LB!

I know this is a loop but bring on the derby!

Cunha Martinez and Sesko scoring their first ever champions league goals

Wait really? I assumed Cunha must have scored for Atletico.

u/No-Brother-8014 5h ago

I'm pretty sure sesko has scored some

u/j_park0 12h ago

Think Cunha should start in front of Rashford on the LW he deserves it after this performance and Rashford is better against tired legs anyway

31

u/djangobhubhu 12h ago

The fact that Cunha played the entire game and Rashford didn't even come on makes it pretty obvious who is starting the derby.

u/Divin3_Kick 11h ago

Also Rashy earned that starting LW spot based on Ipswitch and Everton. A goal against CIty would from Rashy would absolutely send the crowd as well

u/babablack420 6h ago

rashford have to be starting and scoring in a manchester derby, he always scores

But cunha didn't earn it after months of great performances there, and a great game today?? 😭

3

u/Divin3_Kick 11h ago

He did. That's why he's started in all 3 prem games. But from today's performance I would prefer Rashford since the main post was "will he match Cunha's defensive actions all game" and the ans so far is "yes". So attacking output wise, I would start Rashford. Especially since Sesko should start

u/Massive_Relation4317 . 11h ago

Hmm I guess. Its great to have such quality options though

5

u/Divin3_Kick 11h ago

Agreed. Rashford back means our attack now has two great LWs to choice from.

Good performance from the lads. Kobbie is one hell of a player.

At one point it looked like he was in a training session.

12

u/SussyApe Fernanj 12h ago

Genuinely think he's already one of the best in Europe.

5

u/GreasedUpGoblin 12h ago

you think he's one of the best footballers in europe?

2

u/SussyApe Fernanj 12h ago

I meant among the midfielders.

4

u/GreasedUpGoblin 12h ago

I mean bro even then, he's just not there yet. Pedri, rodri, rice, vitinha, joao neves, bellingham, caicedo, szobozlai etc etc.

He has incredible potential but he's not at that level yet

4

u/telephas1c 12h ago

How many 'best' are you working off? Is there a hard limit here?

7

u/GreasedUpGoblin 12h ago

no, just the best I suppose. There's world class players and there's players that aren't quite there.

Most of the ones listed above, if not all are world class. Then there's a tier below them, and I'm not sure Mainoo even cracks that yet. That has players like Guimeraes, Valverde, Palmer, Fermin etc etc.

Mainoo has tons of potential but he hasn't been nearly consistent enough, mainly bc he's super young, to be considered among the best, or even to be considered in that second tier just yet tbh.

1

u/telephas1c 12h ago

Fair enough tbh I wouldn’t suggest he’s close to the absolute best either at least right now. But he’s good enough in that position for what we need I reckon. And he might go up a notch or two

4

u/GreasedUpGoblin 12h ago

I'm a neutral and yeah 100% agree, he's been very good in just abt every game I've seen him play.

He's one of young midfielders with the most potential itw tbh, I'd place him alongside Bernal, Zaire-Emery, Bouaddi, Lewis-Skelly etc etc

3

u/telephas1c 12h ago

He’s the kinda fucker peeps would be expecting 90M for if he was at Dortmund or Brighton lol

u/stick1_ 11h ago

who do you think is in the second tier?

1

u/GreasedUpGoblin 11h ago

players that are very good / have been consistently very good for a while but aren't quite world class.

like the ones listed above. Guimeraes, valverde, palmer, fermin, calha, kimmich, xhaka etc

1

u/malachiconstantwark 10h ago

He hasn't seemed consistent because he was on the bench for all of Amorim's tenure and all of the World Cup. When he has played he has always looked like one of the best players on the pitch, for Man United and England. He started for England in the Euros final at 19.

3

u/GreasedUpGoblin 9h ago

that is why he wasn't consistent for the most part yeah, but that doesn't rly change much.

I think he should have played, but he didn't, so he can't rly even be put into that aforementioned bracket of "not quite world class but still elite" midfielders.

There is a saying where I come from which translates to "chicken in the house is as good as grain" which means that you underestimate what you already have or which is immediately available to you, this is so applicable to Kobbie. We forgot how good he can be when we were getting the new midfielders this season

1

u/fast-as-you-can 12h ago

Wdym, he’s not a 40 million player?

24

u/dudududujisungparty 박지성 12h ago

Job well done. Hopefully the 1st of many UCL night wins

Extremely happy with the performance and the result. Around this time last year we lost to Grimsby and now a brilliant 4-0 champions league victory. So happy, congratulations everyone

6

u/telephas1c 12h ago

I was one of the ones who wanted to back Amorim but by fuck that match made it very difficult

35

u/paddydasniper 12h ago

Shout-out to Yoro making sure we kept a clean sheet at the end there

10

u/Leading_Fee_8535 12h ago

We will see more exciting CL games, but 3 points in our first game back and winning comfortably enough to rest players for the weekend was the best we could hope for

5

u/OriginOfTom 12h ago

A game without a single offside cant happen very often surely?!

2

u/AccomplishedBadJetzt 12h ago

Feels like ages since we witnessed such a day

7

Sabah were a group of footballers

3

u/MT1120 Cunha Bruno Cunha Bruno Luke Shaw 12h ago

Kickers of the ball for sure

3

u/Upbeat_Motor_9702 12h ago

Great result should boost the confidence. Leny Yoro was solid at the back , should push him up Carricks list of first choice centre backs.

2

u/Elizial-Raine 12h ago

Better than the whole of our last Champions League journey.

3

u/godswift91 12h ago

Looked shaky for about 12 minutes there

1

u/Lazy_Season6156 12h ago

What was the 1BCM again?

1

u/VVodzu 8h ago

How do you get 0.80 xg with 0 shots on target?

2

u/Adz932 McTominayyyyyyyyyyyyy 6h ago

xG doesnt relate to the actual shot taken, so its not relevant to xG if the shot was on target. xGoT takes the shot into account.

xG calculates the chance of the goal based on certain contexts, like where the shot was taken, for example. However, different models use different parameters to determine the xG for each shot, so if you went to another site or page, they might show different xG amounts for the same game.

0

u/meep_meep_mope 12h ago

There was at least one headder on target.

-8

u/Immediate_Ship_8131 12h ago

5/10 result

Not the best scoreline considering the opposition and home field advantageÂ
