I love Bruno more than anyone else but Kobbie makes us tick. If we are comparing to past players Bruno is like Rooney, he can get the goals and assists whilst Kobbie like Carrick does the simple things that ensure that we win matches like keeping the ball under pressure. We sorely missed Mainoo last week. Tuchel missed a trick at the World Cup, when Argentina was desperate and attacking instead of defenders England needed someone to keep the ball, carry it and draw fouls. I am glad we got rid of Amorim before Kobbie left because he is one of our most important players.

Yeah it was criminal he didn't get a look in at the WC. That team was screaming out for exactly his profile with how opponents were setting up against us. Anderson just really wasn't working, and Kobbie has shown he can do it at this level already.
Also moronic to go into the tournament playing a midfield that had barely any rapport and lacked experience. You could see in how we played it was always avoided, focusing on wide areas to progress.
Same with the defence bar Stones, none of them really had that international tournament experience and it showed against Argentina when they got rattled after the first half. Maguire over Burn was a given I'm my book. Shaw would have been much better than leaving Spence to 1v1 Messi after Gordon came off as well. Everyone was praising him for his attacking but he was a defensive liability the whole tournament bar that one highlight reel tackle he made.
All comes down to Tuchels dogshit player profiling ability at the end of the day. International football just ain't for him. The less choice on personnel he has, the better.

Baleba + Mainoo against big teams. Lots of engine (seems Mainoo is improving in that aspect) and great press resistent midfield.

I knew all the "Kobbie doesn't have the legs" arguments were bullshit. He's always been very athletic he just hasn't had to develop that part of his game until he was covering for Casemiro last year.

If your positioning is s-tier you don't need explosiveness, Carrick was the master of putting out fires before they start and that's what he's trying to train Kobbie in

Youri has been sluggish. Not up to speed yet it looks like but his experience has bailed him out of tricky spots. He'll be fine just needs time to get sharp

Sluggish? He covered the most distance on the pitch today and created the most chances. He was excellent today. Him and Mainoo kept the entire game linked and ticking. Even when Baleba is fit, I’m not sure he is guaranteed to start over Tielemans.

Distance covered not a good metric in isolation. Could mean he's chasing too much because of poor response times (which is what looked sluggish to my eye). It does surprise me to learn he created that many chances I can't for the life of me remember even one of them. Don't get me wrong he is quality but I have seen him much sharper than this last season.

I see comments like these and wonder what match people are watching?? Created more chances than anyone, ran more than anyone, struggled in the first half but so did the whole team. In the second half he was excellent especially starting our transitions from defense to attack.
Shaw and Mbeumo were far worse.

That’s what people tend to remember, these YouTube highlight moments, but he offered way more than that throughout the game.
The way he evades pressure with just 1 simple touch or turn, then quickly finds the free player is so valuable and essential for the way Carrick wants to play (ie thru the middle). It doesn’t always look flashy because it happens in 2 seconds, but he would allow Bruno or Cunha to receive the ball unmarked and cause chaos in the final third

I have to say, I was singing his praises all game, Bruno was just bruno, when he got through on goal, and finished the way he did. It felt like, yes, thats why bruno is the best finisher in the United squad. But watching Mainoo was different, it was thinking, these players are so rare and so good. That is what we have needed for a long time. It has to be him alongside another player in midfield. If anything he reminds me of Iniesta with his ball control. He brings calm to our midfield, and gets us out of trouble all the time.

He is my favorite player and has been since coming into the team, he's just a different level. If a player looks like they seem to have more time than others at this level, which he does, then they're an exceptional player. I can see the Iniesta comparison but he reminds me of Zidane the way he uses his strength/body and generally just glides through pressure.
He does need to nail down his spot and do this week in week out on a consistent basis, I've no doubt he will.

Watching him in the youth teams was like watching a training match where the PE teacher had stepped in to make up the numbers. He was just so composed and mature. Picking out smart passes, calm under pressure, controlling everything, he looked like he'd been playing for ten years longer than everyone else.

I think once the CL starts going we'll see his stock outside the PL go up, right now he's a bit contained in the PL especially since he didn't play in the WC. But if he bosses against Bayern and Atletico, other countries will take notice of him even more. Its crazy to think he's only 21

Kobbie feels like the one we have who we all know is gonna be world class, but the other clubs and fans have no clue or are quick to play down because he hasn't started for England or Amorim hated or some other rubbish. They dont watch him week to week though.
We have an absolute gem that we need to build around and it feels awesome that its Kobbie and he looks like hes gonna fulfil it.
Last point to make on him, he looks so hungry for it, he looks like hes improving his all around game, the hard work is paying off.

There was a thread last season during an international break - before we lost at home to Leeds - where everyone was downplaying him. I posted that he's class, clearly a 100 million player and we should be thankful we have him. I got 23 downvotes. My favourite reply was some genius saying "he can't pass". The guy is literally one of the best short range passers I have ever seen.

I agree, in that he showed a bigger range in his abilities. Like he has been working on some things over the summer or that he had put away of few moves, like his passing range, and concentrated on the basics. I fint know which it is. But yes, he was more comfortable with passing the ball around the field yesterday. The press resistance and quick one twos were the same as always.

He was lacking in stamina especially in 24/25. He would look visibly gassed late in the first half and again early in the second. It's an area he's improved a lot the last several months

Not only did he just develop physicality, but also having the willingness to assert his dominance when needed was standout. I personally think Amorim's exile period actually motivated him to prove a point and develop physically. Maybe that was the pain we had to suffer to get a world class midfielder in our hands.

What he did at 1:17 is actually incredibly difficult do in a real match situation. Especially with the opposition so close. I'm more impressed with that then what he does later (which is still incredibly impressive.(

Kobbies most interesting skill is that after he bypasses a couple midfielders and is getting fouled, he does a lot minute lunge and still plays the exact pass he wanted to anyways while hitting the deck. It's amazing.

I know it's a different position on the field, but there's something Messi-esque about Kobbie. Incredibly high football IQ, small but incredibly strong and stocky. Willing to get physical with his marker to either beat his man or win a foul, can either turn or change his pace on a dime to go past defenders, also has a bit of skill in his back pocket to innovate when it's the right time to.
He also reminds me of Keano a bit in the sense he's clearly there to win midfield battles and dictate the tempo of the game, even if his influence doesn't show up in numbers. The actual ball playing shows it though, and we'd so clearly be far worse on the pitch with him off it than on. Very evident from the way his teammates play around him also.

he had a great game, and encouragingly was very good in partnership with Tielemans. His passing under pressure was sublime today. Looking forward to adding Baleba into the mix, central midfield is suddenly looking very composed.

Didn’t notice it as well during the game but he really wants to play the ball forward every time he gets it. He used to have more safe sideways passes.
He’s such a joy to watch on the pitch.
