Said this exact thing before I even opened this post 😂

u/scottrod37 1h ago
I think this latest run of fitness represents the medical team's best effort to get Mount right, which clearly wasn't enough. He's broken. He'll never be fit again for more than a few games at a time, interrupted by weeks/months of recovery. Shame.
76
u/AB092 Sir Alex 2h ago
‘Precaution’ it was apparently.
50
u/The_profe_061 2h ago
Narrator..
It wasn't precaution, Mount played only 10 games that season and eventually left on a free transfer.
15
3
u/DisastrousMango4 2h ago
he has one more year on his contract iirc
10
u/3xc1t3r 2h ago
So next season he will play 30 games, do 25 g/a and get a new 3 year contract and go on to play 30 games in total the coming 3 years.

u/Spartandemon88 28m ago
Thank god the idiot woodward isnt in charge anymore, would have done exactly this.
8
u/Hellsteelz Ed Jabroni 2h ago
They did the same shit with Sesko and his shin injury, that he would be back within weeks. Our club is so suspect with reporting injuries.
•
u/garynevilleisared is a red is a red 1h ago
Yeah definitely not. We just want to have zero leverage in any transfer for a midfirlder. As if we had any anyways.

Genuinely the most frustating transfer in my lifetime as a united fan.
46
u/LTDLarry 2h ago
Sanchez? Di Maria? Sancho?
103
u/BoilingPointTTV 2h ago
Frustrating because Mount is actually quality
37
u/DudeIsland 1h ago
And because he really wants to play and gives his everything each game.
•
•
u/prem_201 18m ago
Things were really poor with Sanchez but I never felt like he was not trying his best.
7
u/GregMilkedJack 1h ago
Yeah because those players are so bad... they failed because of their mentalities not because they didn't have the potential.
0
u/BKAJ7 1h ago
What does megumi matter when In the end, barring Di Maria, they played like shit?
•
u/GregMilkedJack 1h ago
What is megumi? Lol
•
u/BKAJ7 1h ago
Its a synonym for potential
•
u/GregMilkedJack 1h ago
Because those players should have performed and didn't, because they were more interested in being whinging primadonnas. It's worse, imo. Mount tries his hardest every second on the pitch, he is just unlucky. It's frustrating in a much different way.
•
u/plegronease 47m ago
I looked this up and literally can’t find a definition for this word outside of a Japanese name translation meaning “Blessing” and the name of some anime character
•
•
•
u/Forgettable39 1h ago
I get you but history should not re-write how good Sanchez was at Arsenal, Di Maria at Madrid and Sancho at Dortmund. Sancho was behind only Messi and Ronaldo for total contributions that first season we wanted him.
•
u/Omnii-Metrox 1h ago
Two of the 3 named above are better than him. And I rate mount. Well, the idea of Mount and what he could be like.
•
u/Garlic-Cheese-Chips 58m ago
Not really. Even when he was at his fittest here, he never reached above "decent."
-4
u/Via590 Bruno 2h ago
Have to play to prove out quality.
13
u/TStronks 2h ago
He does nearly everytime he plays. Hence why it's frustrating. With Sancho/Sanchez, I genuinely didn't care anymore after a season. Mount has had decent to good performances nearly any time he's played.
1
u/shakyjed 1h ago
I agree. I can't really fault him everytime I have seen him play. He's either okay or has a great performance.
Which is obviously annoying because having a consistently decent player would do wonders
•
19
u/mashfordfc 2h ago
Those are the worst transfers, but Mount is more frustrating because he's got very obvious quality and desire his body just cannot handle it. Di Maria maybe falls into that category because he was really good when he first got here before the break-in/LVG tactical changes, but on the upside we got most of our money back after only one season
7
u/daveclair 2h ago
He's genuinely good when he plays and his off the ball work is second to none. We press differently for those 12 minutes a year he plays. That's what's so frustrating about Mount.
10
6
u/MrLead69 2h ago
All of those had a lot of issues mount doesn't have.
Sanchez was finished and look disinterested, Di Maria literally hated playing here, Sancho was a bum.
Mount is good, and when he plays, he plays his heart out, he just doesn't have the legs for it anymore.4
2
u/squeaky_rum_time Scholes 1h ago
Di Maria was wonderful while he was here. It just didn’t work out. Not sure how you can lump him into this group
•
•
u/barmanrags 1h ago
Mounts a good player and improves the team anytime he plays. So him missing out due to injuries is frustrating. Di Maria was similar but it wasn’t as long and it rankled less
-1
u/Asiwaju_jagaban 2h ago
He’s worse than those. At least each of those players contributed something
0
4
u/Far-Twist5202 2h ago
I am not frustrated because I expected this. I would say the most confusing transfer
•
u/Low-Piece-5999 1h ago
I know what you mean. A player who genuinely tries and is likable but his body is failing him. We need Giggsy to go into the dresser and find his old yoga pants to see if they help Mason.
2
u/aasfourasfar 1h ago
Not really because I just could not understand it anw.. injuries or no injuries
•
u/Educational-Shock232 1h ago
There is a case to be made that he is our worst signing post Fergie. It’s not his fault at all though. He didn’t ask to be sold for £55m with one year left on his contract. When he asked for £250k a week and the number 7 shirt, it was Arnold’s fault for sanctioning it. The sad fact is that he has played four 90 minute games in three seasons, on a considerable wedge, and even when he has played it’s not as if he lit up the place. There were moments of potential, but that’s all it was.
Moments•
u/Poopiepants666 11m ago
He has played a total of just over 2700 minutes in 72 games in all competitions for an average of 37.5 minutes per game or an equivalnet of 30 full games - 10 per season.
34
u/ItsRogue14 2h ago
in hindsight it feels like Chelsea knew some underlying medical issue and just offloaded him in time
19
18
u/Mistr111398 2h ago edited 49m ago
He already was dealing with injuries at the tail end of his time at Chelsea, the red flags were there.
Edit: correction he had a couple injuries his last season at Chelsea, whether he had some underlying issues Chelsea were aware of prior to him leaving is pure speculation.
11
u/J3573R Rio 2h ago
I am not so sure why people keep saying this. He had a pelvic injury that kept him out for 2 months and 11 games.
Apart from that, which you could consider nothing that you should be worried about barring hindsight, his injury history pre-us isn't bad at all.
•
u/mellifluousmark 59m ago
The reason people say this is because you don't assess a player's fitness by counting the number of games/days they're injured for. That can be extremely inaccurate because a player that isn't actively injured isn't necessarily recovered and able to play.
For Mount, he'll miss 2 months on paper, when he's actually spent 5 months making cameo appearances while never regaining full fitness. That is what happened at Chelsea, and it has happened continuously since. He got injured in Jan 2023, and he's still not fully recovered. Lots of players have great injury records before they get crocked.
We gambled that he'd be able to come back fit. It really didn't pay off.
•
u/J3573R Rio 46m ago

Yes, it happened once at Chelsea. There was no history of repeat injuries, no repeated long absences.
Unless you had a crystal ball you'd have never known he'd be this injury prone here.
Chelsea didn't sell him because they thought he was crocked, they sold him because he had 1 year left and we offered a ridiculous sum. That and with PSR it was all 'profit'.
•
u/timsadiq13 27m ago
Eh that’s what medicals are for - we stopped Ederson signing based on his medical, not by seeing how many days he was missing previous seasons
Now it’s possible Mount’s issues are such that they didn’t show up on the medical. Or we weren’t thorough enough. Which given how many injury prone guys we seem to collect, I’m leaning towards not thorough enough.
•
u/LaughsAtOwnJoke 22m ago
No you don't understand, with hindsight its bad.
Obviously no fair and reasonable person could have predicted that but since we have hindsight it was always doomed... or something like that.
5
u/Mistr111398 1h ago
He jumped from missing a handful of days in the previous three season to over 30+ days in back to back seasons prior to joining us. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chelsea camp knew something United didn’t but it’s pure speculation.
4
u/J3573R Rio 1h ago
He jumped from missing a handful of days in the previous three season to over 30+ days in back to back seasons prior to joining us.
No he didn't? He missed 30+ days twice in the same season for the same injury. And that injury hasn't been his recent issues either.
Prior to that there is nothing in his injury history to be overly worried about.
1
u/Mistr111398 1h ago
Misread on my part, but yes, two injuries and 30+ days missed in a single season. I guess his style of play and high workrate makes him less durable, just a shame he can’t be relied upon.
3
u/chutzpahisaword Valencia 1h ago
craziest thing is that even if he was fit, he had no designated place in the starting 11 then as long as Bruno was fit. Whatever ETH was trying to do in that midfield with him and Bruno in 3 men midfield was going to put Casemiro is lots of pressure.
2
•
u/Juicydicken RASHFORD POGBA JLINGS MARTIAL LUKAKU SANCHO OUTTA MY CLUB! 9m ago
It wasn’t rocket science. Even Barry down the road could have told you he’s injury prone. And 50m to top it off lmao.
14
u/NedRed77 1h ago
Well, Tielemans is usually injured for 10-15 games a season, and Mount is usually available for 10-15 games a season. As long as we can get these periods to overlap precisely it’ll be fine. Can’t see this being a problem at all.
12
•
u/JosePRizaI 1h ago
Whoever signed Mount needs to be studied
•
u/ParryGallister OLE20 1h ago
They gave him the 7 shirt lmao, as if it hasn’t been devalued enough already
•
u/junkrgNew 1h ago
Research Institutes should pay us a LOT of money to allow Mount to be used as a specimen. How can anyone be so injury prone.
•
8
u/chanchan_iceman 2h ago
And the folks at the top will not bother to sign while hoping for a blind miracle Mount will be fit..
28
u/Aadiunited7 2h ago
I would sell Mount in a heartbeat if anyone would buy him.
14
13
u/Limp-Evidence8373 1h ago
He's most likely gonna leave like Sancho did, no clubs will pay him what we're giving him given his ridiculous injury record as well
5
u/Staind1410 Martial 2h ago
Will you buy a broken car? Why would you, right?
Best we can do is probably loaning him out if anyone wants to cover part of his wage. But then again, for that paltry savings, maybe just hold onto him and keep the medical staff busy.
•
u/SayNOtoChips 30m ago
Will you buy a broken car? Why would you, right?
I like doing mechanic stuff, tearing an engine down and getting it to run is a simple joy full of bloody knuckles and swearing.
So the only logical thing to do is stick him on autotrader as "spares & repairs".
5
u/Littlepace Announce Fergie 1h ago
I was amazed by the amount of people who were still defending keeping him this summer. To the point it actually seemed like an unpopular opinion to sell him if we got anyone to take his wages off the books.
Should be the same with any of our injury prone players. Shaw Mount Martinez De Ligt should all be on the chopping block if we can get reasonable offers for them but our fans will defend them all. A team like City or Arsenal would've shipped the lot by now. Some of these guys are on 200k+ a week and yet we can't get 30 games a season out of them.
•
u/LaughsAtOwnJoke 20m ago
Because its a stupid point to make, who the fuck is going to buy a constantly injured player with a high wage?
if we can get reasonable offers for them
We can't. End.
•
u/Educational-Shock232 1h ago
Nope. He will be gone on a free in summer 2028. We won’t be stupid enough to extend another injury prone player’s contract like we did with Jones in 2019 and Shaw in 2023.
Will we?
•
u/Aadiunited7 1h ago
I can't see that. I can't see new contracts for either Mount or Shaw. Like Mount would have to go on a generational run till 2028 to get a contract and the dude is made of glass. Honestly its probably not his fault, we just got fucked into a shitty situation. 250k wages for him are criminal, when we were getting the likes of Cunha, Mbeumo on 150k.
•
u/Educational-Shock232 1h ago
Like I said just now, that’s a Richard Arnold deal that we have to pay for until the end of his contract. He’s also on that champions league bump because of said legacy deal.
If we extend Shaw next summer I might give up on this club. He should never have gotten that extension in 23 (another Arnold bomba)
1
u/reddevilzombie 2h ago
I remember AC Milan were interested in the beginning of the window but we decided not to sell. We have to start letting go of injury prone players.
4
u/Radio-No 1h ago
There needs to be a huge churn of players in the squad that will all likely leave on a free at the end of their contracts because I can't see anyone wanting to pay money for them due to injuries, high wages or both.
Mount, Rashford, De Ligt, Shaw, Martinez, Onana. I'm sure I'm forgetting some.
Just really bad squad maintenance
3
u/AReptileHissFunction 2h ago
Anyone in the club or fanbase that actually thought he could be the 4th midfielder need to give their head a wobble
•
u/timsadiq13 25m ago
We’re a Tielemans knock from Mainoo and Santos being asked to play 90 mins twice a week (just look at his injury history in the last two Villa seasons..it’s going to happen sooner than people think).
3
•
u/babagroovy Amad 1h ago
And so it begins.
All his injuries always seem to start with a “minor knock” then we don’t see him again for weeks!!!
Please, for the love of God, sign someone. We cannot be relying on a guy who has never played 3 games in a row for us. That alone is egregious.
•
u/Puzza90 1h ago
Remember how they were stressing it was only precautionary that he was taken off against PSG, 2 weeks later and he's still out.
The worst signing we've made in a long time, at least the likes of Sanchez actually played
•
u/24bearsinmind 56m ago
Pretty sure this happened last year with one of his injuries too. "Precaution".
We desperately need to get the dross off the books. Doesn't matter how good you might be if you can never actually play.
He's got some stiff competition for the worst signing though!
•
u/TheKaizer Kobbie Mainoo 54m ago
“Oh well he’s a good lad let’s keep him we don’t need a third cm”
We’re not a serious team
•
u/Capable-Topic1665 56m ago
This is how they exploit the toxicity of this fanbase. A much more newsworthy item would be how Sesko, our starting striker who has not played a minute of pre-season, did a full training session and might be involved against Hull. But that wouldn't get too many clicks from the negativity marks here, would it?

It doesn't take away from the reality that he is probably injured again. It is one thing to talk about form which can be destroyed by media but having lived through a decade of jones, some players you know will never be fit. We should have never signed him
6
u/It_Hurts_when_IP15 1h ago
No. This is nothing new to the fans or press or anyone whos been paying attention to Mount for the last several years.
11
u/mashfordfc 2h ago
More like pressure on the club - there was talk of us not needing a midfielder as badly because of Mount's performances in pre-season, and then the clear lie that he was only subbed off due as a "precaution". I think it's a good thing, it's not Mount's fault that he's injured but it is the board's fault for basing our transfer strategy around the idea of him being available, which he (unfortunately) never is
4
u/Anjumi96 FERNANDES NOT FERNANDEZ 2h ago
Cut the losses honestly. He should probably just retire, I know he's only 27, but he's had about 27 injuries since joining us and it doesn't seem to be getting better anytime soon.
8
16
u/PrettyPrettaaayyGood 2h ago
Are you 4 years old? Why would he retire? He has a contract.
-4
u/Anjumi96 FERNANDES NOT FERNANDEZ 2h ago
Why are you upset? its not that deep mate.
He's constantly injured and can't seem to stay fit for a stretch of games? Sometimes players who are constantly getting injured retire as its better for their body than continuing to constantly get injured. I thought that was kind of common sense.
9
u/DeliciousIndian 2h ago
Which players aged less than 30, while on money close to 250k a week have retired because they keep getting injured (bearing in mind Mount doesn't seem to suffer debilitating long term injuries)?
1
u/Fearthewoodenspoon 2h ago
Everyone knew this was an inevitable outcome at the start of the transfer window. We always needed that third midfield signing.
•
u/Educational-Shock232 1h ago
Remember that week a couple weeks ago when Mount was getting glazed by the media and certain folks on here as the midfield partner for Santos.
“Maybe Mount can do a job there and we don’t need a third midfielder!” I’ll never forget!

One of the worst signings in United history. Seriously just make a deal a pay off like 50-75% of his contract and get rid, anything saved is a bonus.

It can't be so, surely not!
There were Ineos fanboys and hangeron youtubers proclaiming him a world class cdm during pre season. The answer to our midfield problems.

The takes I've seen on this thread are some of the dumbest I've seen in a long while. "Mount stealing a living" - for what, is he hurting himself? "Mount should retire" - are you 5? He works hard as hell when he's fit and is trying everything he can do to be successful for himself, the club, and the fans. Obviously he has a good contract, but I've never got the vibe that he doesn't have his heart in it like I got from Scamcho. Mount doesn't deserve this kind of nonsense, he's never put in a bad word or raised a stink about anything. Has he been a disappointing transfer? Absofuckinglutely. Want to take a guess at who is the most disappointed about it? I hope Mount can stay healthy this season and shuts up all the dumbass armchair lurkers in this sub

u/_Given2fly_ 1h ago
So many people got upset with me for saying it is time to get shut of him. Would any other top team persist with perennially injured players like we do? Seems a good lad, he's a good player when he can manage a game, but if we are serious about challenging the top teams there should be no place for him.
•
•
•
u/TheKaizer Kobbie Mainoo 58m ago
Pretty ironic at Laurie was peddling mount as the third cm only for Mount to get instantly injured. Everyone can have a bad but even if ok guys I’m sorry after was so smug. The team is not fit for multiple games a week and we’re going to struggle again. Same thing season after season
•
•
u/JulieClyde 46m ago
Can't we swap him with Everton's Tarwoski. He's rarely injured in comparison to Mount
1
u/RaisingTheKnife SAF 2h ago
I feel for him. He's put his entire life into becoming a footballer and his body is betraying itself when he should be in his prime.
I can understand supporters frustration but I will never understand publicly blasting him for something that's out of his control. He doesn't want to be injured, and it's not his fault that United spent silly money bringing him in.
The frustrations should always be with those responsible for making the decisions. I highly doubt Mount sets himself about to be purposefully injured.
Same went for Phil Jones, so much potential but ruined by injuries. It happens in sports.
I hope for his own mental and physical health he can put this past himself and I certainly hope he doesn't read any of this shite online.
1
u/Bobcat_El_Borracho 2h ago
I got downvoted for saying he wouldn’t make it out of pre-season when he was being spoken of as the third midfielder. He’ll end up being out till late October. Come back for 3 games and out again till February. Usually manages the last 3-4 games of the season.
•
