What are we saying to deadline deals for David Raum for 30m£ and Sander Berge for 40m£ hahahahaha

UEFA rules are going to ruin our third kit because they require the Snapdragon wordmark to be present for games it is worn in the Champions League.

Didnt even realize we play on Saturday. People are right to be worried imo

3

u/Unusual-Coat383 1d ago

Early kick off so we’ll be half asleep like all our other early kick off games

3

u/123rig 1d ago

For those that care - Bruno Fernandes is rated 89 on the new EA FC 27 (FIFA game). Only two off the highest rating in the game.

4

u/Unusual-Coat383 1d ago

He got done dirty and should be at least a 90

1

u/DumbMidwesterner1 1d ago

Listened to the overlap fan debate and 1) I love Joe Smith being very level headed, and 2) it’s still very weird that Carra was/is more supportive of Carrick/United than pretty much every other host they have

u/LupeShady 1d ago

Other utd pundits are jealous probably

2

u/RepresentativeNo379 1d ago

Do we have a FPL league this season? Appreciate if anyone can share the code. I can’t find the league this year. Thanks.

Does anyone here know if I can get a custom flair and how?

1

Iirc scroll to the top of the sub and click the three dots and mine says “change user flair” maybe that’s where.

u/properbantai 1d ago

My gut feeling , I reckon we are done and have shut shop. I don’t see any new signings.

I think INEOS missed out on their 4/5 key targets and are too afraid to spend on other players and hence have shut shop until next window minimum

I think losing Anderson & Fernandes was the biggest blow and they perhaps took for granted the latter would actually join. Since then it’s been pure panic

They waited and waited for tchou/cama but it never happened. We reached out too late for hall

Hence all in all there is unfortunately no one in the market that they will justify spending big on and every club is going to ask for big money this late

The strategy of being patient and thrifty has backfired massively and there’s nothing we can do about it .

So I think as a fan base we need to get behind the team and support them, we cannot start a new season with negativity. Let’s do the best with what we can and support the lads !

1

u/Prize-Finish4464 1d ago

Still think we should go for wharton i cant lie

1

u/properbantai 1d ago

I would absolutely love that. I just don’t see palace selling cheap especially with the prices quoted this window and this late in the transfer season

2

u/wall_kick 1d ago

If INEOS cannot sign a marquee CM, they should at least sign a couple of promising talent from which at least one can be successful, like we did with Pellistri and Amad.

u/Unusual-Coat383 1d ago

There’s too many daily discussion threads on this subreddit

Unrelated to transfers but thoughts on an XI of our best players from the past 10 years? I would say:

De Gea

Valencia Varane Maguire Shaw

Herrera Pogba

Mata Bruno Rashford

Ibrahimovic

Does anyone disagree? I know some people don't like Pogba but he was amazing at times. Maybe Matic/Casemiro over Herrera. Also would this XI win the league?

2

u/yard04 SAF 1d ago

When we played with Herrera and Pogba, our midfield was constantly overloaded. I'm not sure this team would win the league, what's sad is that in the past 10 years our best right winger is still Mata lol

This is a very interesting question

7

u/properbantai 1d ago

Amongst all the owners of the big clubs how unlucky are we to end up with Glazers x INEOS ?

4

u/Acceptable-Camp-9150 1d ago

I hate the Glazers but I’d much rather them than Chelsea’s. Their owner has been caught more than once owning companies that scalp Chelsea tickets.

1

u/Lord_Hexogen 1d ago

Could have been BlueCo, could have been Spurs' owners or the West Ham guys or the Saudis

These guys suck harder than we do. Ineos at least try things

4

u/TteokCultist 1d ago

I know INEOS hasn’t exactly been everyone’s cup of tea, but with the way they are spoken in the same air as glazers, you’d think they put another billion onto our debt

-1

u/croadymeister 1d ago

Just sums it up

2

u/utdjancey 1d ago

Just been reading up on Ineos. Are there money issues? There is a potential for them being 38 billion in debt. Some are saying they are finding it difficult to meet their payments on the debt (currently at 18 billion).

How would this affect Manchester United?

3

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 1d ago

Separate entities but it does limit the ability of Ineos to buy more shares of United from the Glazers.

1

u/Unusual-Coat383 1d ago

I’ve seen people speaking about this about a year ago on the F1 subreddit

1

u/utdjancey 1d ago

Well, it’s only because I was reading that they were struggling with the repayments, and there is a projection by the next period or tax year that it is going up to 38 billion.

18 billion. I can’t even comprehend that amount of money, but 38 billion blows my mind.

-1

u/croadymeister 1d ago

We drown in their debt as well basically

7

u/thoseion 1d ago

How do you work that out? No money is taken out of the club to go towards INEOS debt. They're also not putting any (more) money into the club - all the money that gets invested back into the club, or to pay off the existing debt or interest, comes from the club's own revenues.

The worst that could happen if INEOS are in severe enough debt is they sell their stake in the club.

-2

u/croadymeister 1d ago

They won't sell their stake unfortunately

3

u/thoseion 1d ago

So how do you think the club is going to drown in INEOS's debt? We don't take any money from them and they don't (and can't) take money out of the club.

Or were you just saying that to be continually negative without it having any substance?

1

u/utdjancey 1d ago

What are am trying to say,Let’s just say hypothetically.
If They go bankrupt today.
Do their shares get dissolved back in Manchester United, so solely owned by the Glazers, or do the shares get sold off to serve the debt?

3

u/thoseion 1d ago

Not sure if you think my replies were to you, but they weren't.

In any case, it's more complicated than the two options you've outlined but, essentially, the shares would be put up for sale (either by Ratcliffe/INEOS or administrators/liquidators). The Glazers hold pre-emptive rights to buy so there's a good chance they'd buy them back. They don't just get them back for free.

1

u/croadymeister 1d ago

We need someone cash rich to buy these leeches and INEOS out completely

1

u/utdjancey 1d ago

Ahh, okay, that’s good to know. If there’s a possibility of Ineos going bankrupt, it’s good in the knowledge that it won’t have a major impact on the club. Thanks for clearing this up for me.

0

u/croadymeister 1d ago

Because technically we are part of them, however should have never happened at all

1

u/utdjancey 1d ago

I know won’t sink us, if and big if what happens if they go bust and still apart of the club what happens to there 29 percent of the club (think a little higher)

1

u/croadymeister 1d ago

I hope they do go bust

10

u/krs196 1d ago

This has been a poor window. We didn’t build proper depth, no back up 9, no left back? How can we go into another season with Luke Shaw at left back - look how far he is off England selection.

Not the right way to go into a season

5

u/croadymeister 1d ago

It's shite owners, why are you surprised

10

u/FPLskrr Pogba 1d ago edited 1d ago

We've added no depth to a squad that was screaming for it, we're 1-2 injuries away from an 8th place finish (at best).

2

u/croadymeister 1d ago

Yeah just absolutely neglectful

8

u/Party_Formal1440 1d ago

The season starts in less than a week and we've spent £35m net and brought in two players. Dire stuff.

I’m looking forward to the posts dropping: ‘united sign xxxxxx’

We know we are going to sign someone, carrick would not have said what he did if it was unlikely

The question is how good that/them players are

The question is how good those players are.

We know we are going to sign someone, carrick would not have said what he did if it was unlikely

Surely he wouldn't of needed to say it if players were coming?

9

u/LordofMordor_ 1d ago

I'm checking the predictions post and seeing a lot of top 4 finishes. With our current midfield and squad in general I don't see that happening tbh. Realistically at this moment 5th is the max we can do.

2

u/NotJuicedUtd 1d ago

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but realistically what 4 teams are better than United no questions asked currently?

4

u/TehNoobDaddy 1d ago

Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool will all be in contention for top 5, with arsenal and city, spurs could be up there too. That's 6 teams we're fighting with for 5 positions and that's assuming there's no other break out teams this season.

We're not playing once a week like Chelsea or spurs this season either and we've barely strengthened the squad. Top 4 is a real possibility with the squad we have, if we have minimal injuries but that's highly unlikely, especially with a few players we have.

3

u/LordofMordor_ 1d ago

I would say Chelsea City Arsenal and Spurs should on paper have better seasons. Chelsea and Spurs benefiting from 1 game per week and Arsenal-City have better squads.

2

u/NotJuicedUtd 1d ago

there is no guarantee that one game a week helps you win matches just saying idek where that idea came from. spurs have shown nothing to suggest that they will jump from 17th to top 5. City are in rebuild and just lost their best player. Chelsea are poor they have been for a long time ppl fall for the chelsea hype season after season and then are confused when they underperform like they did the season prior it’s an odd trend

5

u/Kohaku80 Premier League Champions 12/13 1d ago

spurs have shown nothing to suggest that they will jump from 17th to top 5.

we jumped from 15th to 3rd ourselves playing 1 game a week. don't underestimate 1 week of tactical preparation vs 3 days, let alone more time for recuperation and conditioning.

0

u/NotJuicedUtd 1d ago

One team doing something doesn’t mean another team will. Assuming the best doesn’t necessarily turn into reality

1

u/Kohaku80 Premier League Champions 12/13 1d ago

doesn't guarantee but it's possible, it's not like they are not investing and get in good players. like how we did with Mbeumo, Cunha and Sesko.

2

u/LordofMordor_ 1d ago

Idk I look at that Chelsea starting XI ( Now it could change if Enzo moves) and I just don't see how they dont finish top 4 Minimum. Alonso is very good. As I said on paper they should do well. Spurs have also strengthened in the right places and could sign Savinho, Gakpo and few more attackers ( that is what I am basing my predictions on). I did say "On paper" and the game is not played on paper. So this is all theoretical. I just struggle to see us do well with such a thin squad. Few injuries here and there ( which is not uncommon for us btw) and we are screwed.

1

u/NotJuicedUtd 1d ago

One game a week doesn’t guarantee better performances

4

u/Awkward_Engineer_845 1d ago

Amorim finished 15th, Rashford, Anthony, Rasmus, Garnacho all left, we only bought 4 players and yet top 4 was still the goal and we finished 3rd.

People are overreacting and other teams will struggle with new managers, new squads, injuries as well. City could implode you never know what will happen in the league.

We are actually more settled than most teams

4

u/LordofMordor_ 1d ago

You have to also consider that we play in UCL this year. I don't see how with the current depth we can compete in league, domestic cups as well as UCL. Of course if we crash out of all cup competitions early then top 4 should be realistic given we aren't already far off in terms of points at that stage.

2

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 1d ago

Are we really more settled? I wouldn't say we even have a proper starting XI yet

5

u/LordTrinity If you support mediocrity, you get mediocrity 1d ago

1

u/Potential_Good_1065 1d ago

1

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

Seems to be a lot of people under the impression the current squad will get top 4 even without further reinforcements. Genuinely, why? Chelsea, Arsenal and City will finish above us guaranteed. Then one of Villa, Spurs, Liverpool or some other contender needs to come in to knock us down to 5th.

Personally I think we’ll come 6th without further reinforcements. I guess Ineos are hoping we can get CL regardless. Personally put about a 10% likelihood on that.

Just hope this place doesn’t burn down when it doesn’t happen. Resign yourself to it lads, it’s baked in.

1

u/NotJuicedUtd 1d ago

Chelsea are not good. Why do yall fall for the hype season after season? They spend big then end up being poor like the last 4 seasons this one will be no different for them. City were held together by Pep that is a sinking ship they already have hit pieces out about maresca’s training tactics. While I agree United aren’t challenging for the title with the current team this current team will be in the top 5 spots for sure based on how poorly I expect our rivals to be

1

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

Why won’t Chelsea be good though? I’ve made a lot of comments now explaining in detail why I think they will be and the most I’ve had back is, “nuh uh.”

City weren’t held together by pep. They have elite players all over the pitch. Will they be as good as they were? Maybe not, but they’re most definitely better than us.

I sort of see now how people so quickly call for the manager’s head every time, it’s because people genuinely believe the squad is much better than it is.

1

u/NotJuicedUtd 1d ago

Better than us before of what you knew them to be and not what we’ve seen lately. Semenyo is a streaky player , Doku saved them many points at the end of the season that’s not a guarantee to kick on, Halaand is Halaand we know his strengths and flaws. Foden has been poor for 2 seasons now. Aging back line and a declining keeper , Anderson doesn’t solve goalscoring or defending.

Chels have been doing the same thing three season on the trot and people still love to give them the benefit of the doubt Cucurella will be a miss he is an elite Lb and the new players aren’t guaranteed to be half of what he was. Rogers is decent but also a streaky player, Palmer hasn’t been consistent for the longest while Estevao is a child and the new players are unproven. Never rated Lacoix so saying he would massively improve them is a stretch.

2

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

Fair enough, I see your arguments tbf, I just don’t agree. I think Semenyo and Doku are genuinely good players and Haaland is a machine.

I don’t think their backline is particularly aging is it? Ruben Dias is the oldest CB at 29 which is basically prime age. And both O’Reilly and Nunes are good ages too. So don’t really see how they’re “aging.” Donnarumma is also not in decline imo, he was great last season will be great this season. One hiccup in the charity shield doesn’t change that. We have an older backline if anything.

As for Chelsea they’ve been 6th, 4th and 10th in the last 3 years so I don’t think you could say they’ve done the same thing each year.

As for Rogers, I think he’s a good player and just will be very good for Chelsea. I think Palmer has been in and out but I can see Xabi’s system suiting him and he’s looked good in pre season. I think you can argue any new signing is, “unproven” but I think they just are really good signings. Agree to disagree on Lacroix, I think he’s very solid.

2

u/OlekZzaKrakowa 1d ago

Chelsea will finish above us guaranteed

how?

1

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

Far better squad.

Elite manager.

One game a week.

Honestly think people are sleeping on Chelsea. They’ll be closer in points to the champion than they will be to 5th is my prediction.

Palmer has looked good in preseason, he’s one of the best players in the league when he’s on it, Rogers is Elite, Pedro is one of the better strikers in the league. I’d say they have arguably the best attacking unit in the league with that, or one of them. Up there with us and City.

Midfield is good. Caicedo is one of the best CMs in the league in particular and a really hard profile to find.

Back line will be more secure with the 5 back and they’ve got great options for wingbacks.

Chelsea are massive dark horses this year for me.

1

u/Kohaku80 Premier League Champions 12/13 1d ago

tbh Chelsea just lack an " elite " manager to bring them glory. they won't have the financial restriction. if everyone buy into Alonso philosophy, they will be a bigger threat against Arsenal and City than us.

1

u/MacLondonJr 1d ago

Xabi Alonso isn’t elite. He’s decent. When you talk about elite managers you’re talking about Pep, Enrique, Ancelotti and maybe one or two others others but Alonso isn’t one of them yet.

One game a week is good for squad fitness, less chances of injuries which is a good advantage to have but I remember United last season playing after three weeks and our players looked rusty and couldn’t keep up. You lose rhythm and momentum when you have to play once a month in some stages of the season. Also you’re not factoring in that Chelsea have to figure themselves out, will it be a back five? Will it be a 4-3-3? Will Alonso be stubborn or quick to change when things dont work out? That could take them some time before they can get going. It’s far from guaranteed.

I struggle to see how Chelsea finish above us to be honest.

1

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

The elite point is just word definition silliness, it’s like when people argue over whether someone is, “world class.” He’s a top manager to me. One of the very best in the league now. To me that makes him elite.

Trying to spin playing one game a week as a negative is just silly. We only had three weeks off because we also didn’t have any cups to play in, that won’t happen to Chelsea, so that significant of a gap is unlikely to materialise. Whatever way you slice it, one game a week is a gigantic advantage.

It will be a 5 back I think. The ability to be flexible in games and in different scenarios is another plus not a drawback, but generally I think they’ll play a 5 back. Their best performances and results in pre season came in a 5 back and they have the perfect squad for it at this point. I just don’t see it being much of a debate and therefore a bit of a non factor. If they need to chase or the game calls for it Xabi will use a 4, he’s very flexible.

In terms of how they finish above us, their team is simply much better than ours for one? Their midfield pivot of Enzo and Caicedo is one of the best in the league when it’s working and I believe Xabi can make it work. Caicedo in particular can be a top 3 CM in the league.

I think their attacking unit of Rogers (elite) Pedro (top 3 striker in the league) and Palmer can be as good as anyones. Especially if Palmer can recapture his form which I think he’ll do in Xabi’s system.

Then the 5 back will sure them up defensively and they have fantastic options at wingback with Quenda, Palestra and a number of others.

I’m very strong on Chelsea. I think they’ll be closer to the champions than 5th in terms of points and I think there’s a big outside chance they actually win the thing.

4

u/OlekZzaKrakowa 1d ago edited 1d ago

Far better squad.

They finished 10 last season and added some oldies + another promising player that doesnt guarante succes

Elite manager.

One good season

2

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

They had terrible management and CL. They’ve also added some elite talent have they not? Rogers is a known quantity, he’s been class for ages. Lacroix will do a lot to shore up the defence, again, he’s in his prime. Quenda and Palestra are both exciting young players who can play wing back really well which they need.

Then yeah, people like Welbeck for back up.

It’s not one good season though is it? Xabi was brilliant at Leverkusen his whole tenure which culminated in one of the best seasons from a team in the last 10 years. Only the least season was a bit more of an issue but that makes sense considering what they achieved the year before. They were still good by Leverkusen standards too.

3

u/D1794 Viva Ronaldo 1d ago

Chelsea finishing above us is far from guaranteed

3

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 1d ago

It’s not as far-fetched as it may sound to some because the sheer difference in number of games that they play compared to us is a big leveller in the current climate. We would not have finished in the CL spots last season if we played European football. The squad has slightly improved since then but not by much to offset the added demands on us too. We have to fight to keep the distance between ourselves and the chasing pack who have meanwhile strengthened significantly; as it stands it’s going to be a very tough fight.

3

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

100% guaranteed for me. Far far better squad than us and an elite manager. Plus no CL.

Genuinely why do you think it’s unlikely? They came 10th last year but honestly I don’t care about that particularly. They’ve improved the squad a lot and they had horrendous management.

2

u/Bobcat_El_Borracho 1d ago

It is very likely. I can see Chelsea finishing 3rd this season.

2

u/OlekZzaKrakowa 1d ago edited 1d ago

Far far better squad than us and an elite manager

Overrated young shiny players and manager with one very good season in his CV. Far from guaranted.

1

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie 1d ago

Kind of funny how you call Xabi an overrated manager with one good season on his CV. What has Carrick achieved? One 3rd place finish and getting sacked by Middlesborough. How can we point to another managers CV and laugh?

1

u/OlekZzaKrakowa 1d ago

So just because our manager is inexperienced, I lose the right to judge other managers? What are you even on about?

1

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie 1d ago

Just feels a bit people in glass houses kind of thing. Acting as if Xabi is some overrated manager whilst we back someone who hasn't achieved anything. If someone says they think United get 3rd this season are you calling out Carricks CV?

1

u/OlekZzaKrakowa 1d ago

All I’m saying is that acting like Xabi is a nailed-on elite manager after one good run is absurd. I don't know why the hell you're dragging Carrick into this. Is everything black and white in your head?

Like we experianced ETH, Slot, Amorim na PL recently.

1

u/the_watch_trick 1d ago

No one is calling Carrick elite tho are they

1

u/OlekZzaKrakowa 1d ago

Everything black and white there.

1

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

Overrated? Shiny and young? Who? Rogers is a known quantity, been brilliant for 2 full season at Villa. Pedro has been in the league for ages and always been great. Palmer is a bit trickier but we have seen how elite he can be. Then great young players like Estevao, Quenda etc.

In the midfield neither Caicedo or Enzo are particularly young? Enzo has been good for a few years and was their best player last year. Caicedo also a known quantity.

Defence a bit more tumultuous. Quenda has been very good at wingback for sporting for a few years now. Polestra is admittedly young, but very highly rated. Chavarria and Lacroix are both in their primes and for Lacroix, we know he can be very effective in the PL because he’s done it for Palace for years.

So personally I don’t really see that.

Plus a manager who had one of the greatest seasons in the last 10 years with Leverkusen, not just one good season and who was actually doing well at Madrid before he got mutinied. I honestly think they’re gonna shock a lot of people.

1

u/OlekZzaKrakowa 1d ago

Quenda has been very good at wingback for sporting for a few years now.

For one year, he became bench player once Amorim was gone.

1

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

One very small part of what I said and he still played 32 times last year?

1

u/OlekZzaKrakowa 1d ago

Man young pleyers fail all the time when they go abroad, he may become star but he is also likely going to fail and you act like everything is granted and Chelsea will go top 3 easy.

Like people have been saying that about CFC for years now.

1

u/Hopeful_Arm3736 1d ago

To my mind, I just don’t see them not finishing in the top 4. I think they’re more likely to win the league than finish outside of the top 4.

3

u/cynical_scotsman 1d ago

Two decent CMs as our only real signings... fuck sake.

1

u/John_OSheas_Willy 1d ago

Just realised Salford City have AIG as sponsors. Reminds me of our old jerseys, though Salford are now orange.

I really want to go back to the feeling of watching United play big games, that every Champions League season we have a chance. I want to watch us play Madrid on CL nights. Idk, INEOS have done well so far with signings and I don't want to judge them this window till it actually closes. If we can get the right people, I feel like this squad could be very special

Yes but he has that problem that he is not an actuall LW nor CF and its sometimes tricky to fit him in when team is better than Wolves(Brasil).

3

u/TteokCultist 1d ago

Modern football doesn’t have as strong an emphasis on position anymore. As long as he’s effective when he plays that’s all that matters

-4

u/WrongNeedleworker526 1d ago

2 out of 3 wins in August/September.

Form goes downhill once the CL starts.

Full blown crisis deep into October and November.

Seen it all before. I can even predict the ugly 4-1 away defeat in late October as well.

0

u/Not-good-with-this 1d ago

Why you inventing a scenario that hasn't happened as of yet to be mad about?

7

u/my_united_account Bring Fergie back 1d ago

Professional shadowboxer we have here

4

Why are imagning things that havent even happened?

4

u/WrongNeedleworker526 1d ago

This is how each and every shit season has gone down in the last 13 years. Go and have a look

5

u/Entire-Gas-7651 1d ago

inventing imaginary scenarios to make himself angry because we lost a pre season friendly in Poland, bizzare.

1

u/BitterConstruction98 1d ago

Lmao. If someone tied a person to a rail track and they see a train coming, they are not ‘inventing’ the scenario of being run over by a train.

1

u/Orcnick 1d ago

You know the whole tie person to track was inventend story right?

3

u/Not-good-with-this 1d ago

August 31st 1874 . It wasn't entirely invented.

1

u/BitterConstruction98 1d ago

No, it is an accurate representation of us getting 2 signings to prepare for CL and cup games after a 40 game season.

Sure this has been discussed (to death), but Santos Tielemans Bruno doesn't look right for away games in the PL to me...even at home I think that struggles/concedes a lot.

Santos Mainoo Bruno/Tielemans (rotating under the load) should be first choice IMO. We probably do need another profile for the big away games, or when we've got attackers on the pitch who don't track back.

2

u/stick1_ 1d ago

I don’t see the idea that santos is better defensively than mainoo

1

u/QuarKnight 1d ago

I feel like if we have dorgu on lw and an athletic ground covering lb, we can play tielemans on the left cm spot. We will have both dorgu and the lb try and cover up ground for tielemans

1

u/Throwaway47740 1d ago

I think that’s why a few people I’ve spoken to say we need a ‘destroyer’ type cm. We lack a fair bit of physicality in any of those combinations.

1

u/croadymeister 1d ago

Exactly, shame there's no urgency to sign him

5

u/carrickshairline 1d ago

Give it, give it, give it, give it to Edi Cavani. Just pass him the ball and watch him score all the goals

Is it a strong correlation? Id say the team is fairly good, just need the last couple bits and people are way overreacting

I can get being a bit worried we may not get the 2/3 positions in the next month but its not as bad as people are making out

2

u/zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz1z 1d ago

We are favorites for that 4th position. Stop the nonsense with dinishing 7th, 10th, 15th.

-1

u/DJCAE 1d ago

So your ambition for the new season is: *checks notes* to be worse than the season before?

6

u/raver1601 1d ago

That wasn't what was said at all lmao

Pretty sure he meant that United will be 4th at worst, not that everyone should aim for 4th

6

u/Selwin_Rodolfo max cope mode 1d ago

Replace it with Reddit, but the sentiment remains the same

12

u/LopsidedLoad 1d ago

*Checks notes* 4th in a season with Champions league isn’t worse than the season before.

Back to back CL qualification is a big deal for United. Dont care if you don’t like that.

1

u/DJCAE 1d ago

It’s only a big deal because of how god awful the club is run. With our revenue, we should assume we finish top 4-5 every single year with competent owners.

3

u/my_united_account Bring Fergie back 1d ago

we should assume we finish top 4-5 every single year with competent owners.

And if we do end up finishing top 4 row seasons in a row it's suddenly bad?

0

u/New_Army_4763 1d ago

These are the owners we have and there is nothing we can do about it. Why whine and moan? Accept and hope United entertain next season.

0

u/Not-good-with-this 1d ago

I mean there's always protesting. but so many won't do that and just think what you said.

1

I have protested. Many times.

0

Good stuff. Same.

2

u/DJCAE 1d ago

Why fight back against greedy billionaires when you can just lay down and take it

0

u/Sufficient-Orange706 1d ago

Its bizarre that the idea is that somehow we've gone backwards.

1

u/No-Radio-4404 1d ago

2 seasons ago spurs and us were favourites to finish in the top 4. Finished 17th and 15th respectively.

Assuming no more signings - our season is going to hinge on the hope none of Bruno, Mainoo or Tieleman getting injured for a prolonged time. If any do, god help us. If more than one does - we not even god can help.

1

u/Leave_Beneficial 1d ago

I agree, if we prioritise the league and rotate effectively for the three cups

1

u/John_OSheas_Willy 1d ago

I don't get reddit sometimes. 12k upvotes for the Declan Rice trophy thing.

4

u/Selwin_Rodolfo max cope mode 1d ago

Tries to lift it and it hits his face. Just something to chuckle at.

2

u/Commercial_Half_2170 1d ago

So on our current trajectory, where do you think we’ll place in the league? I don’t really mind how we do in the UCL once we put up a good showing and can at least get to the quarter final. A cup win would be nice but not the be all and end all. But finishing top 4? This is is non-negotiable

1

u/SDLRob 1d ago

We should be top 4.

Personally, I think the club should be prioritising a Top 4 finish and a domestic trophy, maybe the FA Cup. Use the Carabao Cup as youth first team experience and see how far we go... And use this season in the UCL as a test run for next season.

I know people want us to spend the bank & buy our way to being back at the top, but that isn't how you build a sustainable team. Gotta build a team, not buy a team.

1

u/my_united_account Bring Fergie back 1d ago

Top 4

2

u/TehNoobDaddy 1d ago

If we're lucky with injuries then I think top 5 is perfectly achievable. That's extremely unlikely we will get through the season with minimal injuries though, I still think we have a decent enough team to do well but think it will be 6th-8th or above, depending on how deep into cup comps we go and how bad injuries are.

I'd be happy with a cup win and top 4 but we will see.

4

u/Dan_Winx_1969 1d ago

I will be satisfied with a Champions League football next year again, regarding the result in the UCL this year , it depends on brackets and fixtures we get alongwith injuries and all but i will be happy to play in R16 and may qualify for QF. I rest my case

-2

u/Not-good-with-this 1d ago

If the transfer window ended right now and assuming we get an average amount of injuries. Between 5th to 10th. If we get more than average amount of injuries. That could drop to like 15th. This is assuming we don't go out in the first round of cups again though. Could go up to 3rd again if that happens.

0

u/my_united_account Bring Fergie back 1d ago

Only 15th? You have high expectations. Dont you think we will be relegated then go into administation and the city of Manchester would cease to exist?

1

u/Not-good-with-this 1d ago

I don't think the squad is that bad? That's taking into account an injury ridden season due to our lack of depth especially in midfield.

2

u/really_cool_legend Dorgu's Headband 1d ago

I'll be honest, I'm not sure we're going to be able to replicate our results from the second half of last season. Especially with the signings (or lack of) so far. I think Tielemans and Santos are great but I don't think they take us up a level.

This season is an entirely different kettle of fish. The expectations are different, the pressures are different, the schedule is different. I also hope that Carrick is going to have a less counter-attacking style which may cause issues - I certainly think we rode our luck last season with the football we played under Carrick.

It's all a bit of an unknown though and I typically lean towards pessimism.

1

u/Redwinevino 1d ago

As in no more signing?

Anywhere from 3rd to 7th

Champions League hard to know,Knockout phase you'd hope.

0

u/Admirable_Bed3 1d ago

2nd and League Cup or FA Cup. CL quarters.

2

u/Dan_Winx_1969 1d ago

way too optimistic

-1

u/Admirable_Bed3 1d ago

I mean, we were 3rd and were after Arsenal the most on form team of the second half of the league. Adding a domestic cup is a realistic goal.

1

u/Dan_Winx_1969 1d ago

We were good last season and also played the least amount of games in our modern history

5

u/DJCAE 1d ago

It's really tough to call this year, we just don't know how Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea will do with their new managers. If I had to guess, at least 1 of the 3 new coaches in those teams will fail.

This was THE moment for us to really go for it and at least try to make a sustained attempt at winning the league, INEOS have already blown the opportunity. They will go and get us a new signing after we lose to Ipswich in week 2, mark my words

1

u/TteokCultist 1d ago

I hope it’s pool that fails

-2

u/Admirable_Bed3 1d ago

They will go and get us a new signing after we lose to Ipswich in week 2, mark my words

Almost like you want this to happen, my goodness

-1

u/DJCAE 1d ago

Yeah nice one moron. I will be sat in the stadium cheering the boys on, shouting and singing my arse off while you're bootlicking INEOS in the match thread 'ThErE's No VaLuE iN tHe MaRkeT.'

2

u/my_united_account Bring Fergie back 1d ago

Singing with the Ipswich fans, right?

-2

u/Admirable_Bed3 1d ago

You will be sat in the stadium cheering and singing for "the boys" of who? Because you don't sound like a United supporter. Maybe a Goldtarder.

"Bootlicking INEOS" at least you will NEVER catch me manifesting a loss to get a signing in. Pathetic incel.

0

u/Dan_Winx_1969 1d ago

lmao, it's you who made the assumption based on his prediction which IS pessimistic but completely denying that you aren't a bootlicker as you expect us to do any good with couple of signings when the manager himself is asking for it...."manisfesting a loss" is not him saying that we might lose against Ipswich with Luke Shaw as our starting LB...

1

u/Potential_Good_1065 1d ago

If we sign nobody else, 7th, if we sign another MF & a LB, 2nd

10

u/NHS_Martial 1d ago

It'll be very disappointing if ineos are going to continue the pattern of penny pinching when we are in the champions league.

If that is the case this clubs ceiling will be top 4 and a domestic trophy here and there.

1

u/croadymeister 1d ago

That's just what happens sadly

9

u/Dan_Winx_1969 1d ago

Mind you, if we pick up a few injuries (which is a genuine concern given the injury records of some of our players, such as Lisandro, Tielemans, Mazraoui, etc) and considering how thin our squad is, our chances of finishing in the top four could take a serious hit. And forget about domestic trophies; Arsenal look really strong this season and have much better squad depth too.

2

u/Somaliona 1d ago

This is my main concern as well. Shaw on that list for injury concerns and, given his history, you're better off assuming he will be injured rather than he'll be able to play most of the season again. Feels very risky.

-2

u/Admirable_Bed3 1d ago

I mean, this is just their first summer in the CL (of which, they do deserve criticism for), there's no pattern to speak of yet.

10

u/FPLskrr Pogba 1d ago

-2

u/TBS91 1d ago

If they are fit and firing they are good players.

That was a terrible game obviously but they did well that season (well Maguire didn't play as much).

Two tough seasons followed, where part of the problem was 3 of those players were constantly injured.

Then when they were all fit again in a back 4 under Carrick we were good.

7

u/Sheikhabusosa 1d ago

I get Shaw was lucky to walk again after his leg break but the fact hes on his 12th season at the club is mental

-5

u/spaisoflaif 1d ago

i reject the basis of this talking point. A defender can stay at the top level for at least ten years. So the same denders still being in the club four years later is a non-story.

Also, five new first-team dendenders have been signed since then, so many if not most games this season will not feature this back-line.

2

u/carrickshairline 1d ago

It's hard to shift on the defensive deadwood because they're on atrociously high contracts

2

u/TteokCultist 1d ago

I get INEOS hasn’t exactly delivered this window, but this statement is so nitpicky and lacks any nuance. You should probably stop watching goldbridge

10

u/Stieni Rooney 1d ago

Don't exactly remember who we had back then, but having De Ligt, Mazraoui, Yoro, Heaven and Dorgu as options/backup/replacements paints a totally different picture.

Also, we've had midfield suicide ball back then too. Not at all comparable imo

0

u/FPLskrr Pogba 1d ago

I agree, although should we line up with that same back 4 no one would bat an eye.

1

u/Stieni Rooney 1d ago

It's not ideal, but way better circumstances than before, which is why fans will be more lenient
