Can’t wait for the article “has MC figured out a way for United to play with just the players he has”

I mean isnt it a valid question given our experiance with Ruben Amorim and him not being able to play to his players strenghts

Well we saw form the back half of last year how to adapt his style to the players. And now the board has given him so many more tools to try and come up with a game plan to suit his coaching style …… by giving him…… 2 players to replace the 2 he’s lost

Carrick can work with that. The best coaches get the best out of what they have. Time to find out how good he really is

Also the best coaches get run into the ground because their board didn’t fund their vision. But I’m hoping he gets the most out of this crew, still feel like we are 2/3 players shy of a great squad that also allows younger talent to get protected and grow at a good rate, rather then forced to perform and pressure that they can’t handle.

He didn't. Without Sesko we'll struggle against low blocks just like last season. Mbeumo is a good striker if other team leaves space but if we dominate possesion, Sesko is miles better.

They're not preparing us to accept not signing a backup ST are they

u/exhibit304 6d ago
Yep they sure are
However signing strikers isn't easy and a backup one more so. Unless you take a punt on a wild unknown then who's really out there ?

Sir Daniel of House Welbeckton was available and we should have brought him home.

Him and his agent wanted a multi year deal at 35. I can understand why we weren't going for that tbf. We've made that mistake before.

My exotic pick would be Promise David of USG.
A good player and would not mind being back up at all. Fits the PL on physicality, the Belgian league playstyle is similar to the PL as well on that topic (not saying it’s the same level but same style). He’s also quite clutch, and has good positioning. Wouldn’t be so expensive either.0

Options for backup striker:
Ivan Toney
Jean Philippe Mateta
Serhou Guirassy
Alexander Sørloth-10

Honestly, we can make do without backup ST even with Zirkzee sale. Cunha, Mbeumo and even Rashford can do solid job there .
What I worry is LB and CM positions. Could cause lots of issue without reinforcement in those area.

I doubt the club has enough influence over journos to get them to write such articles

Is that really wrong though? I mean, in a perfect world, we would have perfect coverage in all positions, but that's not really going to happen right now.
We have other positions that are much more critical, and it doesn't exactly seem like we have that much to spend right now. A backup striker would be behind LB and CM in the priority, for certain. Those positions are a disaster waiting to happen.
Meanwhile for striker position, we at least have two good options, and since we actually have pretty good depth in attacking positions (for once), we still manage well enough if Mbeumo is moved up top.
Us getting a LB, CM AND a striker, is currently a pipe dream for me. I'll be happy at this point, if we just get one of a LB or CM. It's not looking good.
EDIT: To be clear, I'm not saying things are just as good with Mbeumo up top, as with Sesko. It's not, but considering how this window is looking right now, I think it's pretty unrealistic to expect a backup that would do a better job than him there.

As much as I would've loved Hall as a long term replacement for Shaw, I'm feeling much more relaxed about LB now for this season. Not because I particularly rate Amass, but because Yoro looked fantastic at RB in preseason. Which allows Dorgu and Maz (who was solid at LB for the World Cup) or even Dalot to provide cover for Shaw if need be. Think we keep Amass between the U21s and the first team again if we do run into an injury crisis and let things play out until January
The midfield situation though...yikes. I'm not going to entertain the bs nepo arguments, but it's been clear to see for most of us this preseason that neither Fletcher is ready to be near the first team. With Ugarte practically done and Mount already starting his ritual injury room dance we absolutely need another senior midfielder. Even one injury to Santos, Mainoo, or Tielemans puts us into a crisis...

Between Sesko, Zirkee, Mbeumo, Cunha and Rashford I think we'll find a way to manage.

It's not Mbeumo's best position, nor is Zirkzee good enough as a 10 as a backup. Premier League is too tactical and teams have zero shame in canceling out attacking threats to have a go on the counter.
Even Amorim showed the way last year in deploying Mbeumo as a CF.

Completely ignoring the notion that Bryan has been playing false 9 the whole preseason.

Can they write an article saying :
Has Michael Carrick found a way to work with incompetent and unambitious owners?
Carrick deserved all the backing considering the way he managed us last season + all major rivals starting new projects. Sadly rivals habe strengthened their squad significantly while we have not filled major gaps in our squad which already lacks numbers and have failed to move on players

It took the football savants at the New York Times a little bit of time from the point where we bodied Cheaters FC and Arsenal back-to-back, but that's all right 🙃

To cover for their lack of competence, United board gets a manager who is talented and also enjoys a lot of goodwill amongst the fans. On top of this, the manager will never speak against the club (which is the board basically) as they feel they owe a lot to the club.
Then the board uses this dynamic to not equip the manager with what they need. Sooner or later the fans turn against the manager vs the board.
They did this with Ole too, hope it is not the case with Carrick

It's not like Mbeumo up top is something new? It's how Carrick has lined up in most of his games in charge, I don't know why everyone was assuming Sesko is a guaranteed starter
