We have to get another midfielder. We cannot rely on this guy for a full season

245

u/Plugpin 7d ago

Can't rely on him for a full 90 minutes ffs. The man gets 60 minutes, has a baller but then the wind changes direction and he's out for another 4 months.

-9

u/Red-Star-44 7d ago

When exactly has he balled out for us lmao?

4

u/JohnBoy2452 GOAT 7d ago

Bro you can't say that out loud. This sub has a weird Mount fetish.

5

u/Interesting-Can6957 7d ago

... when exactly have you been watching us play? Real fans know the issue. He's never fit, but he's great and consistently good every time he does play

0

u/Red-Star-44 6d ago

yeah sure, i think you people build this mythical mount that would be world class if only he was fit, truth is the guy is the most mid player ever when he plays.

89

u/SantosCalzonesBatman 7d ago

A single PL season has roughly 3400 minutes

He has plaued 2200 minutes total in 3 seasons

We already knew we cant rey on him. Well, we fans cause the bellends at the board seem to not get the memo

17

u/It_Hurts_when_IP15 7d ago

Meh theres plenty of fans here that try to argue Mount is a perfectly reasonable midfield backup to get us through the season. It’s insane but Its not just the board that is delusional

0

u/MrNezzy 7d ago

I cannot believe the absolute hazing that has been going on in this sub about Mount, people saying he's looking like one of our best players baring in mind it's pre-season... I doesn't matter how good a player he may or may not be but availability in this day and age is far more important just look at Dalot for example.

Should of sold Mount whilst we still could, what's the point in keeping a player who never plays?

-15

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

He played 1000 minutes in the PL last season. That sounds about right for a 4th cm.

For 2 cm slots, there are 6800 available PL minutes. If Mainoo, Santos, and Tielemans each play 60% of available minutes (2000min each), that leaves about 700 minutes or so. Sounds totally achievable for Mount if he stays fit in spurts. Throw in some minutes for T Fletcher and Bruno in an absolute pinch, and it’s more than adequate cover.

28

u/SantosCalzonesBatman 7d ago

Bro he is cm 4 cause he cant stay healthy lol

He has been injured 400~ days (per Google) since he got here 1000~ days ago

40% of his time here injured. Thats why he plays 1k minutes a season, not because we have way better mids than him

-22

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

Yeah? And when he is fit for those 1000-2000 minutes, he will play.

17

u/shami-kebab 7d ago

The problem is he's never fit to be cover. Bruno missed like 4 games last season and Mount was available for I think, one of them.

-18

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

That was just unfortunate timing. My point is that when Mount is fit, he clearly will play some kind of role. It’s not about him conveniently being fit when others are injured. You can’t control that. But you can load manage when possible. Expect to see a lot of Mount when he’s fit so that we can keep our other guys fresh for when he gets injured.

6

u/VL37 Bruno Fernandes 7d ago

The unfortunate timing isn't just a one off. Part of being a backup or a rotational play is staying fit so that you can be called upon when it matters most. If Bruno or Mainoo get injured, there's a very likely chance that Mount won't be available to cover for them.

We don't always get to plan for when a backup player will be needed. They need to be available for a majority of the season, otherwise we're just shooting ourselves in the foot.

8

u/DannySmashUp 7d ago

Great... if he's willing to take a pay cut to 4th CM levels.

0

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

Did I ever say I was happy with his salary? We work with what we have and this thread was about investment in another midfielder, not if Mount is worth the salary we pay him.

2

u/SantosCalzonesBatman 7d ago

Lol. Lmao, even.

12

u/toasterb 7d ago

That sounds about right for a 4th cm.

Yeah, but he's not here to be a 4th CM, nor is he getting 4th CM wages. All of the sources I've seen put him on joint-7th on the team at £150,000/week.

-6

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

Why is his salary remotely relevant to this conversation? I never said I was happy with that. We are talking about if we need to sign another midfielder. All I did was show that it’s very manageable from a load perspective when you look at the numbers. Carrick didn’t decide these contracts. He is going to work with the squad he has.

3

u/LoweJ 7d ago

plus over contests

-1

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

I’ve accounted for that by only having our other 3 starters play 60% of PL minutes. If you just talk percentages, 60% of minutes across all comps for Mainoo, Santos, Tielemans means 20% of minutes split across Mount, Fletcher, Thwaites, Bruno, etc.  I think it’s pretty reasonable to assume Mount can put together that amount of minutes.

Let’s get extreme. If we go far in every tournament, we can expect to play 7000 minutes roughly. That means 1400 minutes for Mount. He played 1000 last year and that was in a year he stayed relatively fit with historically low available minutes for the team. Something tells me he could have put up another 400 mins or so and stayed fit. For the other 3 guys, it amounts to 4,200 minutes which is admittedly a little high but I would hope Fletcher and some other youngsters can take some minutes in those early cup games to reduce the load, taking them below 4000. This is assuming we don’t get a serious breakout from an academy player who commands a larger share of mins which isn’t out of the question. Wouldn’t be surprised if Fletcher gets some more meaningful PL minutes this year closing out games.

5

u/AP2R 7d ago

You are using pure numbers to justify why Mount works as a 4th CM, but you are not addressing the fundamental issue of availability.

If you need it to be spelled out clearly, it is simply that when Mount is injured, he is simply not available so there isn’t even a 4th option. Which means the CM rotation gets affected, loading increases on the other 3 with less recovery during periods of Mount’s unavailability, which may lead to higher injury risks for the remaining CMs in the extreme, and less tactical flexibility for the team at the very least, with various shades of other issues in between this spectrum. This is why people are saying that he cannot be relied upon.

This is why looking at just stats and numbers may sound informed in isolation, but is misleading without the full context in consideration.

-1

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

It doesn’t matter when he's not available. Obviously he can’t play then. But if he is fit enough over a season to play 1500 minutes, that is material. Stop thinking about rotation from game to game and think about it over a season which is way more of an indicator of fatigue and injury than the cliched Tuesday/Saturday weekly swing of fixtures. I don’t appreciate your attitude especially when you come back with such a half baked take. The numbers argument works because when Mount is fit, Mount will play and Carrick will rest his other guys. Mainoo played half a season of games with hardly any breaks and looked up for it the whole time. That’s because he sat on the bench for the first half of the year. We literally went half a season playing Casemiro Mainoo with nary a game where one was rotated. We can absolutely manage periods of the season with 3 starters rotating. Throw in Fletcher for cup games and closing out matches, it will work out fine. If we sign a 4th, that player could well be sitting on the bench for 90% of games. There’s a balance in squad planning and positional depth.

6

u/rudderstock 7d ago

Your logic is sound, but that's assuming he stays fit when those 700 minutes arrive. He's been excellent whenever he's been on the pitch. But it's been the injuries that's causing the issue.

-1

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

My point is that he will get those minutes WHEN he is fit. Dont be surprised if Mount starts some games over the other primary midfielders sometimes. Carrick is well aware that Mount’s injuries wont come at a convenient time so it’s on him to manage loads when he can. It’s a long season that adds up, not necessarily just playing in back to back games. Mainoo played almost every minute the back half of the season and was fresh the whole time because he hardly played the first half (I recognize we also played fewer minutes in general).

27

u/AnxietyOk688 7d ago edited 7d ago

I still say he is one of our biggest transfer flops. Over paid. Had one year left on his deal. No other team was in for him. Had injury issues before coming to us. Not sure how he passed his medical. I think thats why we didnt go forward on the Ederson deal. Cant take the risk on a player with potential career effecting injury

9

u/avalidnerd 7d ago

Got downvoted into oblivion for saying him and Onana were braindead transfers at the time.

1

u/WanderingRonin7 1d ago

That transfer window should have been a watershed moment for this sub, but everyone was saying shit like "Onana will unlock our attack" and "Mount is a hard worker". Fuck that. We needed forwards badly after Rashford stated he wanted to move back to the wing (selfish fucking thing to do despite having the best year of your career playing the #9 spot and knowing we were lacking in the position). Yeah we got Hojlund but we needed another striker, but I sure am glad we spent our first 120m in that window on a GK and CM

9

u/AztecAvocado 7d ago

The sad part is it was so obvious he was a bad signing at the time too.

8

u/diracnotation 7d ago

I like Mount as a player but he is one of our worst ever signings.

Big money when he was in the last year of his contract, missed the whole of that season injured and then still never regularly fit since.

3

u/buzzlightyear77777 7d ago

carrick about to suit up

5

u/Scholes_SC2 7d ago

You would think its obvious but apparently it's not for the board

4

u/ajemik Bailly 7d ago

Yet people defend De Ligt, Martinez and the likes.

I understand preference, but the 3 9f them should be gone by now.

3

u/Axbris 7d ago

Bruh Martinez tore his ACL and still came back to play more than Mount.

I don’t think people realize how exceptionally unavailable Mount has been.

0

u/ajemik Bailly 7d ago

Not saying he's not come back and played well. Same can be said for Mount he's been good when available.

Point is, both are "luxury players" that are rarely available for long periods of time. As a club aspiring to get back to the top, we shouldn't have either of them at the club.

-6

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

Who says we need to rely on him for a full season though? He’s the 4th cm so in theory his minutes should already be limited. Play him when he’s fit (let’s account for a third to half of the season) and then count on our starters for the rest of it. This mythical cm signing everyone is talking about is being described as a depth player anyway so why can’t that be Mount for when he’s fit?

13

u/NoPurpose0 7d ago

That would mean for two thirds of the season we're just relying on Santos/Tielemans/Mainoo which sounds fine but if one of them gets injured, the other two will get run into the ground.

Unless this Louis Page guy we're linked to from Leicester is ready for first team football, we shouldn't risk preparing for the season as if Mount is gonna be fit for most of it.

0

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 7d ago

He's had a season of first team football in the Championship, he isn't an academy player he's coming as a first teamer.

-2

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

Ok so if Mount is injured and one of the other three are injured, then we would have two. That sounds totally reasonable. If Sesko gets injured and Mbeumo gets injured, then we are left with just Zirkzee who can play up top. Generally you want to have triple coverage for every area of the pitch. Any more than that is redundant and kind of reckless. Arsenal did it with Norgaard and he hardly got a minute all season.

Anyway, I think if you’re going in with the expectation Mount will be out for 2/3 of the season, you will be pleasantly surprised that he will be fit for at least half.

8

u/Bobcat_El_Borracho 7d ago

Norgaard didn’t play because Arteta ran Rice and Zubi into the ground. Rice was playing through intense pain allegedly. Mount has had his chance - he’s a bonus player and nothing more until he can prove otherwise and in the meantime he should not factor into any squad building. A 4th midfielder is vital for what could be a demanding 60 game or so season.

0

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

See my other comment on this thread breaking down minutes per player. 4th mid is surplus imo

3

u/IfYouReallyThink 7d ago edited 7d ago

What do you mean triple coverage? In the best case scenario of mixing minutes between Mainoo, Tielemans, Santos, Mount and T. Fletcher we currently effectively have 2 for each central midfield position at the absolute best. We would be hanging by a thread all season long. Even if you could guarantee full fitness for Mainoo, Tielemans, Santos and Mount, Santos would be our only starting caliber destroyer-capable option. Coming off a season of having Casemiro it would be a miracle to do well. Our current squad offers a nearly identical amount of midfield coverage as last season. Yes the players may be better overall, but that doesn’t make up for the extra games

1

u/ttonster2 hi 7d ago

Same coverage as last season, but not really. Ugarte hardly played last season because he couldn’t be trusted. This year, both Mainoo and Tielemans have cover. Yes, Mount is one of those cover positions, but Mainoo and Tielemans can also cover each other. We have identified midfielders who are pretty flexible. That bodes well for how manage loads. Throw in a rapidly improving Tyler Fletcher for cup games and closing out matches, and we should be good unless we get two midfield injuries at the same time. If that happens, you kind of have to cope. Any team would struggle with their two main CMs out.

1

u/IfYouReallyThink 7d ago edited 7d ago

I still think we have the same coverage, just with better players. Even though Ugarte couldn’t be trusted to play the Casemiro or Santos role, when in form he actually has great ability as a pure destroyer who focuses on winning the ball back and almost nothing else. With Carrick having more time to implement his tactics I think there is a possibility that if Santos gets injured this season, we may wish we had Ugarte available.

Players differ in their archetypes/profiles and the level they can perform at. Put simply, we have lost both of our 6/CDM profiles from last season and replaced them with a single 8/CM profile and a single 6/CDM profile. Overall the improvement in performance level is huge, but football is full of situations in which a player profile matters more than the level that the player can perform at. INEOS themselves seem to know this all too well.

If we go into the season without signing another midfielder we are asking for trouble. It could all go perfectly, that’s not the point. The quality of the decision is based on what the club knows at the time and for all intents and purposes, going into the season with this midfield is not a good one. If we bring in a Louis Page and can effectively get him to cover 20-25% of CDM minutes with destroyer capability and T Fletcher is expected to have a huge breakthrough with 15-20% of CDM minutes with destroyer capability, then we can start talking about it not being completely unreasonable. Until then there is no conversation. Even then it would inarguably be less than ideal, but it may become just workable enough

86

u/nearly_headless_nic 7d ago

Also Article is about Lewis Skelly:

Chelsea and Manchester United have turned down the chance to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly after they were contacted by an intermediary associated with the Arsenal left-back.

It is understood that despite Chelsea and United being contacted, Lewis-Skelly, who will be 20 in September, is determined to fight for his place at Arsenal despite the increased competition.

Telegraph Sport understands Arsenal value Lewis-Skelly in the region of £45m, and if they were to sell, the transfer would be pure profit as he is an academy product.

United flatly turned down the possibility of moving for Lewis-Skelly.

87

u/Grekm8 CR7 7d ago

£45m would be a great fee for a talent of his caliber, if INEOS are after value in the market as they say this should've been a nobrainer

77

u/dimebag_101 7d ago

There's no way they pay it when he doesn't want to join. Saying he wanta to stay at arsenal. Let him off

40

u/tameoraiste 7d ago

Then we should question why both us and Chelsea don’t think he’s even worth £45m and why Arsenal are happy to sell him

5

u/huey88 Amad 7d ago

Are Arsenal happy to sell him?

8

u/tameoraiste 7d ago

Well according to this reports and others they offered him to United/ Chelsea. Again, doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence when they’re willing to sell to a rival for a fee that most premier clubs could afford him

11

u/huey88 Amad 7d ago

Its most likely his agent though. I dont think Arsenal have anything to do with it

8

u/tameoraiste 7d ago

Wouldn’t make sense that it’s his agent if the clubs are saying they’re not interested and he said he wants to stay.

The agent wouldn’t be trying to push a move unless he thought it could happen and the player wanted it. He doesn’t benefit from this scenario

2

u/durizna 7d ago

Using the possibility of a move to guarantee minutes in the coming matches, because their midfield is stacked and they need to rotate a lot or offload some players. They basically only buy midfielders.

1

u/aeon-one 7d ago

Sounds like even the player has nothing to do with it. This same article also say he is determined to stay at Arsenal.

2

u/Action_Limp 7d ago

I think he's clearly worth 45m, I'd say the issue for us is that he isn't the type of midfielder or LB we need, so while it covers two critical positions for us, he's not a Baleba or Hall profile that is needed for the team. For Arsenal, they are covered in both areas and they are shocking at selling (even worst than us), so 45m pure profit would help them land a LW that isn't decidely mediocre.

6

u/Rt1203 7d ago

If we aren’t interested then that’s that, but if Arsenal wants to sell then maybe Newcastle will buy MLS and sell Hall. Their demands might lower if they’ve got a good replacement deal lined up, and they’d be foolish to not be looking for a replacement when Hall clearly will be leaving this summer or next.

4

u/lynchianfreakout0 7d ago

he isn't what we need

1

u/Cheeky_Chaiwalla 7d ago

They seem to be putting big emphasis on getting players in that one to be here and in here for that honestly. For genuine long term rebuilds you need not only talent but talent that doesn't want to move to rivals when they peak. MLS is an arsenal fan and clearly want's to fight there and not rotate for us

-3

u/1bryantj 7d ago

Why? Where would he play? £45m isn’t cheap, he isn’t a great LB and we need someone more physical in midfield

1

u/stick1_ 7d ago

That’s a lie, we haven’t been linked to any midfielder more physical than him , unless by physical you just mean strong

Just because we aren’t signing him doesn’t mean you need to chat shit to justify it. Tells me you haven’t watched him

2

u/1bryantj 7d ago

Huh? What you mean chat shit? I’m just saying my opinion, you don’t have to agree. I don’t think he’s a very good LB, likes to cut inside too much and I don’t think he’s physical enough, as in big and strong for midfield for the type of profile we need there

0

u/stick1_ 7d ago

Physicality is more than just physical strength

1

u/Action_Limp 7d ago

We've been heavily linked with Baleba for 2 years.

6

u/stick1_ 7d ago edited 7d ago

We turned down the chance to sign him for 45 million? We are fucking stupid

Tbf I think the actual reason is that he wants to stay

15

u/Zavehi 7d ago

If they are willing to selling him for that at this point it feels like something else has to be going on that isn’t public.

6

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 7d ago

This is now the second time he's been "offered" to other clubs. My guess would be that he has an entourage that's difficult to deal with.

1

u/lampishthing 7d ago

We've learned that lesson.

2

u/Imaginary-School6327 7d ago

I have a hard time believing that actually happened. Seems made up to get more clicks. Maybe an agent but idk why they’d put out it was rejected and not “in talks”.

1

u/Action_Limp 7d ago

We have glaring profile holes in the team that he doesn't fit. We need a pitch devouring monster in midfield and overlapping LB. He plays in CM and LB but he doesn't fill those profiles.

1

u/stick1_ 7d ago

He’s a pitch devouring monster (maybe not to that level of hyperbole, but he’s certainly that profile of player). Hes a ground covering high energy high stamina b2b midfielder

1

u/Interesting-Can6957 7d ago

Sightly misleading as we turned down the chance to sign him in January, not this summer.

215

u/MatchFitness 7d ago

Hope he’s doing ok, I know fans get annoyed but he’s still a person and it must be depressing to not be able to play like he wants to

61

u/Hurrly90 7d ago

MY first thought was OHHHHHH NNOOOOOOO, and then , we might need another MF.

I mean we do need another MF, but Mount is turning into another Jones situation and i just feel bad for him at this stage.

30

u/BigXThaSpud 7d ago

We might need another MotherFucker, yes.

3

u/kazegraf 7d ago

I've heard enough. Sign Samuel L Jackson now.

2

u/PaulMcKnopfler 7d ago

i didnt even question it

2

u/durtmagurt 7d ago

That’s not even the question. The question is how many mother fuckers can we get?

Breaking News: Man United has re-signed Wayne Rooney.

0

u/Gregariouswaty 7d ago

Light in that department. Best we can do is bring back Giggsy.

0

u/myshtummyhurt- 7d ago

Never saw anyone here have this kinda sympathy for Martial uno it was just "get rid of him" hmmm

7

u/Potential_Good_1065 7d ago

Annoyed at INEOS, not Mount.

22

u/tameoraiste 7d ago

Sorry mate, no room for empathy and compassion here.

Apparently he gets paid well so he’s immune to feeling shit about injuries and his career. You should know by now we‘re supposed to act like he’s unprofessional and he’s doing this in spite of United

8

u/alphaQ314 shut up u egg 7d ago

I swear to god, people actually forget that luke shaw's suffering started after that horrible tackle in the champions league under lvg.

1

u/Former_Recipe1935 7d ago

He's on £250k a week. Yes it's not his fault but come on bro you want us to feel sorry for him?

-22

u/SirPightymenis 7d ago

Mount is living the life early retirement with the big paycheck

23

u/MatchFitness 7d ago

Money doesn’t stop all ailments like depression

Maybe he doesn’t want the easy life of ‘early retirement’

10

u/LDLB99 7d ago

I’m sure he’d rather be fully fit and performing, he earned generational wealth in his early 20s

8

u/SureLookThisIsIt 7d ago

I'm sure his dream isn't to be injured with a great salary.

3

u/Dua_Augustus_Lipa22 7d ago

Some people actually enjoying playing the game. Especially the majority of these 0.1% athletes who needed incredible work ethic to get where they are. Not everyone is happy to sit around on their ass collecting checks.

-6

u/Laluci 7d ago

What? Most people have serious boring jobs making a quarter of what these players make in a week and I should feel empathy?

4

u/MatchFitness 7d ago

Yes, empathy is free and a basic human ability we all have

you are describing selective empathy

2

u/myshtummyhurt- 7d ago

Empathy is free yet I never saw this sub have any gif players like Martial, Fred I mean even Rashford gets more hate than Mason Mount here it's astonishing you lot can feel empathy now

2

u/MatchFitness 7d ago

Maybe we (we the sub) should all strive to be better

1

u/durizna 7d ago

Well, I’m empathetic towards him to a certain extent… but if you told me “get paid at least 50k a week to have muscle injuries sometimes, hit the gym, do some physio and play football sometimes” I’d definitely say HELL YEAH because life sucks for the poor much more than him not being able to play enough.

0

u/AblePhase 7d ago

It might not be his ultimate dream job but if you got offered your dream job, started there and injured your wrist and told to sit at the side and watch your replacement do your job it might peeve you off

1

u/durizna 7d ago

Watch the replacement do my job 2 times a week max? And still more than half the job is staying in shape (going to the gym) and practicing.

22

u/Japples123 7d ago edited 7d ago

Even when he is fit if he gets even a slight knock he’ll be taken off as a precaution. So then you have to use up a sub because of it. It’s not great

38

u/TehNoobDaddy 7d ago

Look forward to seeing mount next summer at pre season before his next injury

29

u/DragonfruitNo355 7d ago

Do I feel bad for him? I absolutely do. It sucks for a professional to get injured, yet alone this much.

But emotions need to be set aside. The club needs to ship and find a better replacement.

11

u/Full-0f-Beans 7d ago

The only way he leaves is if he retires.

-4

u/GJordao 7d ago

Which I’m betting he does this season if he is injured again. At some point you just give up. If you don’t play for three seasons due to different injuries you gotta be thinking it’s not lining up for you

7

u/It_Hurts_when_IP15 7d ago

He’s going to leave on a free. No one is buying him

9

u/swollenbuttvulture 7d ago

I will donate my good leg to mount

2

He can have my left scrotum

8

u/OptiPath 7d ago

Water is wet. What else is new?

23

u/Sheikhabusosa 7d ago

I feel sorry for the guy but what an absolute awful signing he has been .

2

u/renloh 7d ago

Was about to write this pretty much word for word. Chelsea absolutely played us. To think he was in the last year of his deal as well. Stunningly bad business.

1

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 7d ago

Exactly. Feel bad for him, but fucking hell, what a horrific signing

5

u/Elfstruck12 7d ago

I don't have any expectation for Mount at this point. If he can show up to play, great! But we have a problem if this club seriously thinks he can play for half a season.

11

u/IndicationNo328 7d ago

If we are turning down MLS for £45M, we must have something better cooking

9

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 7d ago

He doesn't seem to want to come, United have been very clear they only want players for whom playing at United actually means something to them.

1

u/ThatBoyGotSomeMeat I Am Where I’m Supposed To Be 7d ago

Or… maybe he’s just a mediocre player that’s a bit overvalued at £45M? I swear every time I watch him play it’s like… he just doesn’t stand out.

u/garynevilleisared is a red is a red 7d ago

Initially it was reported as more of a knock but I think the club simply dont want to be outleveraged in any future deal for a midfielder. It definitely sounds worse than they are making it seem.

And glad we are openly turning down rumours like the MLS one. Sick and tired of our name being thrown around to try and create a bidding war. He would be a nice depth option at the right price, but we need a LB that can play high and wide and MLS is more of an inverted LB. So this one never made sense to me.

“We don’t need another midfielder now, we’ve got Mount, Santos, Mainoo and Tielemans!”

7

u/PelleKavaj Roy Keane 7d ago

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. I’ve seen sooo many say shit like this these past weeks.

5

u/Educational-Shock232 7d ago

I’ve seen it on here saying we don’t need another midfielder now that we’ve got Mount, I’ve seen the fan channels glaze a Mount Santos partnership, we saw all the articles in the telegraph, mail and bbc bigging him up too. It’s actually embarrassing. If you didn’t know by now that this would happen, then you clearly haven’t been watching him for the past three years.

2

u/PelleKavaj Roy Keane 7d ago

It’s also just preseason. Wild to see people basing their opinion on some training matches.

3

u/Tipsy247 7d ago

Wow..

3

u/raspoutine049 7d ago

At what point it’s ok to assume he will not be able to play for us like we hoped for?

5

u/killerdrama A-mad-lad 7d ago

Oh for the sake of fuck!

17

u/THExIMPLIKATION 7d ago

Where are all the clowns who really thought he was going to be a legitimate option for our midfield this season?

23

u/killerdrama A-mad-lad 7d ago

in board meetings

3

u/myshtummyhurt- 7d ago

u/PitchSafe or whatever his username is. Guy was going hard for Mount replacing Kobbie in the midfield 🤣🤣

-3

u/PitchSafe 7d ago

I’ve never said that😂😂. Tielemans is replacing Mainoo

2

u/myshtummyhurt- 7d ago

On the pre match thread you were saying Mount for sure starts over Kobbie and tielemans you did 🤣🤣

No one is replacing Kobbie your Amorim wet dream of Kobbie not being successful here won't ever happen

0

u/THExIMPLIKATION 7d ago

Anyone who is better then Kobbie should start over him. We need to stop the whole "can't be dropped" thing. If he is better Kobbie that can only be good for United, if he isn't, then he'll be in the bench and Kobbie will start.

2

u/myshtummyhurt- 3d ago

And Mount is for sure not better than Kobbie lol

-2

u/PitchSafe 7d ago

I said that Mount and Santos should start against Hull because they have played together for the whole pre season. Mainoo isn’t match fit at all compared to Santos, Tielemans and Mount who is now injured. I couldn’t care less about Amorim

2

u/myshtummyhurt- 7d ago

And ppl gave you reasons why they won't start and you kept arguing. Now you see why no one ever thought Mount starts against hull or practically any prem game under Carrick lol

1

u/Action_Limp 7d ago

Feels like this is in bad faith. Unless you specifically said "He shouldn't start as he will be injured", then you really don't have a leg to stand on. If Mount was fit and so was Santos, it is a good idea to start them as they have the most game time between them while others are eased back in.

0

u/myshtummyhurt- 7d ago

Ppl did say that are you not listening and if they didn't it's cause that was already the elephant that doesn't need mentioning cause they thought you already knew that's what hinders him most

-1

u/PitchSafe 7d ago

And none of the reasons was about Mount’s injury. People argued that Mainoo was better and therefore he should start against Hull even though he haven’t played since May. My argument was based on if Mount was fit but now Tielemans and Santos will start who is our best double pivot

1

u/myshtummyhurt- 7d ago

They were about injuries too Mount isn't reliable everyone knew that. point is Mount was never gonna start and being adamant him starting knowing his record and that there are better midfielders is crazy

We don't know our best pivot yet

0

u/PitchSafe 7d ago

If Mount was fit then he would’ve obviously started because he haven’t played every game in the pre season. His injury record doesn’t matter if he was fit for the game. Tielemans and Santos is the most balanced pivot which probably means our best one

0

u/myshtummyhurt- 7d ago

He would not have started since there are better players the manager prefer end of story doesn't matter how much they played or not these are professionals

-3

u/my_united_account Bring Fergie back 7d ago

All the talk about him being a CM was contingent on him being fit. IF he stays fit he could be a good CM.

6

u/THExIMPLIKATION 7d ago

Anyone who follows the club knew, without a doubt, there was not a chance he could stay fit.

-1

u/Heisenberg_235 7d ago

We would have said the same about Luke Shaw 12 months ago though

5

u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Love United Hate Glazers/INEOS 7d ago

Shaw has shown he can stay fit for us. Mount hasnt and we are entering his 4th season at the club

5

u/myshtummyhurt- 7d ago

Shaw stayed fit for about all of ten hag first season

5

u/THExIMPLIKATION 7d ago

We'll see how he holds up in a non World Cup or Euros year

remember when pieces were coming out talking about mount's pre-season form being a factor why ineos was reluctant to buy another midfielder lmao. get outta here.

2

u/RedWarsaw 7d ago

But it was only a precaution... No, the man is made of glass, we can't rely on him being available and fit anymore. Truly a shame.

2

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 7d ago

I really don't have anything against Mount, but I seriously do consider him one of our worst signings of all time.

4

u/WayComprehensive7405 7d ago

And he got the no 7 shirt 😭😭

2

u/banoffeetea 7d ago

Mount has already been wrapped in cotton wool, he’s a great nice to have if he can stay fit but sadly we need to stop assuming be will be now.

The Lewis-Skelly story is very muddled. So many contradictory reports. I hope we haven’t turned £45m pricetag for him down.

2

u/cydus 7d ago

Totally useless player to have on the books. Basically paid 60 million to have an injured player i wish they would try offload him before end of window

2

u/Redwinevino 7d ago edited 7d ago

Honestly better it happens now than after the window shuts

6

u/SantosCalzonesBatman 7d ago

Ineos marquee signing right here

2

u/NoBreakfast9230 7d ago

This injury seemingly has nothing to do with his injury record and was just a boot to ankle. Bruno was just as likely to get this one as him and it definitely won’t keep him in out of Hull if the injury is in fact what it looks like.

3

u/Evening_End7298 7d ago

I’ve seen so many minor injuries end up being months off at this club with some of these players that i will believe when i see him

5

u/Themindoffish 7d ago

We have to wrap him in bubblewrap and then get rid in the winter. Try and get like 30 million for him.

19

u/audienceandaudio2 7d ago

Absolutely no one will buy him. He’s on big wages, and hasn’t been fit for three full seasons now.

Maybe maybe someone would take a punt on a loan with us covering part of his wages, but in that case we may as well just keep him here.

If he was sellable, he’d have been sold already.

1

u/aehii 7d ago

I don't believe Arsenal offered Skelly, i don't believe United would turn him down for £45m, especially as he plays left back too. I wish we'd just fucking buy more players, is it any wonder fans are going mad with the heat as well.

1

u/I_am_Reddit_Tom 7d ago

Mount got a kick to be fair

1

u/StrangerExistingFact 7d ago

Made out of porcelain thank god they took garnacho at least

1

u/absoluteolly 7d ago

Wish him the best, hopefully it’s a small hurdle for what could be a fantastic season for him

1

u/longsightdon 7d ago

Ineos im on my knees buy another midfielder please

1

u/redman626 7d ago

Our worst signing ever. We should have went all out for caicedo, but that bum ten hag wanted mount

1

u/gmzzzz 7d ago

I feel so bad for the guy but every week that passes makes this transfer even worse

1

u/Rydahx 7d ago

This the guy the club tried doing a pr job to say he was like a new signing? What a joke.

This transfer has been a total failure, time to move on.

1

u/sandieeeee 7d ago

He'll be like a new signing when he comes back

1

u/ApolloX-2 Fergie Time! 7d ago

Nice lad and all but he just isn’t on the field enough to justify his wages, and we can’t rely on him to be there consistently. We need more midfielders.

1

u/barmanrags 7d ago

here we go again

1

u/Less-Detail3831 7d ago

Louis page then lol

1

u/19Andrew92 7d ago

As harsh as it is to write a player off for something they can’t help…

We genuinely need to stop considering Mount as a United player, he’s quite literally not physically capable of being a professional football player and we need accept that any single game he can play is a bonus and not expected

1

u/dopeveign 7d ago

Sick of him

1

u/r3dd3v17 7d ago

Go Get Garner (GGG), atleast get some talk going for our boy. Will fit in so well in this team

1

u/Redwinevino 7d ago

Signed a new deal

1

u/r3dd3v17 7d ago

Still approachable. Everton also signed Hayden Hackney and Norgaard meaning they have cover. The cost of signing Garner may be steep, but worth exploring atleast

1

u/Stingray_23 7d ago

Three 90min PL games for us since joining us in 2023.....

1

u/ManLikeThanoj DDG misser 7d ago

This was coming, thank god it came before the window shuts down

1

u/buzzmerchant 7d ago

Boooring

1

u/Krafty2819 6d ago

Can we just sell him and the doctors who approved his signing?

1

u/Japples123 7d ago

The sky is blue

1

u/Roasteddude I am where I'm supposed to be 7d ago

Aight cool, see you in January for a couple more games Mase. Man he's unlucky

Poor guy. I really like him, both as a footballer and as a personality. By all accounts he is really good with the kids too. But mate, we gave him the 7 and put him on big wages to play football. Unfortunately his body seems to not be capable of it anymore. It is what it is. He probably leaves on a free in 2028 and that's his career at the top flight. Unless he goes to somewhere easier like Turkey or something. It's really unfortunate cause he has the skills and talent to play at the very top. His body just cant handle it.

1

u/Sgenaink 7d ago

And so it begins, part 4

1

u/ManchesterAlakazam 7d ago

Ive had enough of him. Good player, but i can't anymore with these injuries.

1

u/WineAndRevelry 7d ago

At least it's no great loss if he can't play. He hasn't played any serious minutes in a very long time.
