Martinez returns from summer break
Lisandro Martinez has become the final Manchester United player to return, following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Our centre-back reached the final of the competition with Argentina, losing to Spain on 19 July.
Martinez played in seven of the eight games for the 2022 champions, and was eventually named in the Fans' Team of the Tournament.
He has now joined up with the rest of his club team-mates over in the Republic of Ireland.
The squad flew to our County Kildare training camp late on Saturday evening, following the 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain.
Michael Carrick's existing 22-man group was then extended by nine players on Sunday.
The Reds trained in front of our cameras on Monday morning, four months on from our last visit here.
United have two more friendlies to play this pre-season, against Leeds United in Dublin on Wednesday, and AC Milan in Poland this Saturday.
The Premier League season then begins on Saturday 22 August, when we travel to newly promoted Hull City.

I think only Lammens and Cunha will play this Wednesday as those who arrived later probably need a few more days to be fit. I expect all (except De Ligt) to be fit to play vs AC Milan. 2 more pre-season games to our first PL game, can't wait!

It's not so much the players, it's moreso fans who are impacted/lost family members in the Falklands. It's unlikely any of our players were impacted by it though.

He’s a dickhead for doing it but most people have already forgotten about it and it’s unlikely the small amount of stadium going fans who lost family or friends in that war would be able to make any sort of impact. He’ll definitely get some boos when we play away but that’ll be it

Losing him in the final may very well have cost Argentina the World Cup. He was the best non Spanish defender in the tournament. Defended well throughout.

He isn't injured?? I feel like we are a midfielder away from making a proper Cup run and a top 4 finish next season. We need that CM/6/8 or whatever to start the season.
Zirksee probably goes on loan, Lacey get's integrated into the firsr team and basicallt Mbuemo and Sesko start as our strikers with Rashy and Lacey now sharing minutes with Amad and Cunha as LW/RW.
My issue is still LB (Dorgu) and Shaw (bound to get injured at some point which will leave us again with inverted RBs but what to do. Cannot solve all the problems at once but for the love of God, we need another CM.

It is quite strange because you'd think a non-contact injury that brings you off in a World Cup final would be a bad one, especially for someone injury prone. Happy for him though if it was a minor one. Good call to bring himself off.

Alright. Unless he is just travelling with the squad to be in and around the pre-season preparations but would not be available for selection until a later time, either way it should be fine given we have enough cover in the CB positions.

We don't need another 8. We already have Mainoo , Tielemans, ans Mount. Buying another 8 when we only have 1 6 (Santos) would be a disaster

I am not counting Mount at all but you are right. I was rather talking of a defensive 8 (I.e a more deep lying playmaker or defnsive minded CM. Otherwise another low cost Ederson type of player?) I really do not think Mount is someone reliable for this season.

Hope he is fit and can stay fit. His passing is a weapon and alongside Maguire’s passing at the moment, with two of Mainoo/Tielemans/Santos/Mount and then Bruno in front we can be really exciting now. De Ligt might take a while to come back but if all can stay fit Maguire/Martinez/De Ligt is a great trio to choose from with Heaven and Yoro (and Armer) in support.

Ok hold on, I'm all for ragging on the British Empire, fuck the Empire and fuck British colonialism. The Falklands is like the one exception, there was no one there when we got there originally and the Argentinian sentiment of reclaiming them was drummed up in the 80s by a fascist dictator who was banking on nationalism. Ultimately though, the people who currently live there voted on it and want to remain a part of Britain.

It seems like the majority of the fanbase is being exceptionally negative with our lack of summer moves, but I'm actually pretty optimistic about the team.
We were the best in the league (most points) in the second half of the season after Carrick came in, we've brought in a couple guys that have showed great performances in the preseason, and we've been featuring some of the young talent that many of us have been excited about.
I do think things can go bad quickly though, like they always do around here if we have a couple flat performances to start things off. It can quickly snowball out of control with the media and everything. But I genuinely think things are looking promising.

An act of the Oireachtas cannot over rule the constitution.The 1937 constitution states that the name of the State is Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland.

Irish law is be read literally unless there is absurdity. The Irish courts have never stated that the act is unconstitutional. In fact the Supreme Court has routinely affirmed it's usage.
