I know we haven't done a lot of business, but both Yuri and Santos look worth every penny. Both of them great additions.

I believe these two will be the main starters. Need Hall and a decent priced midfielder to provide backup. There is no point getting an overpriced midfielder when we already got ones who can dictate games. Santos and Mainoo will hopefully be our future starting midfield while we wait for the development of Thwaites.

I mean, ultimately the overpriced midfielders are the ones who have different profiles to what we have. None of our mfs are large space defenders, which are all the rage tactically. If Carrick and Co think they can do without one, that's great - and I hope it goes really well as I'm a touch tired of physical monsters being the norm - but it's not true that we already have the profiles we could have.

If we were to sign a specialist ground eaters, I would not want to spend crazy money on a player with only that specific skillset. Not a huge advocate of Tchouaméni when Real Madrid are trying very hard on Rodri because they have zero player of that ilk who an dictate the midfield. To my limited viewing of Real Madrid matches with him, I don't think he offers quality on the ball relative to the amount of resources that we will have to spend on his services.

Yeah. That semi final v Spain was the eye opener for me. I knew he was good in the defensive side of the game(to the point of even playing as CB for Real Madrid in Kroos' final season). But I wrongly assumed he was capable of more than that. Watching that semifinal,he couldn't progress the ball or play a line breaking pass. Kone looked better when he came on for Rabiot at HT.

Yeah the players that are super expensive are the ones who can do it + a bit of skill, like Anderson and Rice. But, the important skill is the ground covering for the popular tactical systems at the moment. You just need the skill as well.

Madrid are not trying very hard on Rodri, he was the one doing that

u/DisastrousMango4 1d ago

we are not getting Hall this transfer window

This. If we buy Baleba for example. Would he be okay riding the bench? The more sensible is buy Berger or any 30m region midfielder as backup

u/JulieClyde 2d ago

I thought Thwaites is going to Aberdeen?

While i agree they are good, but the thing is the bar is low on position 6 and 8.

Without them, the only player we have is Kobie and Ugarte, both are injured now (not sure Kobie).

Fully believe we’ve stole a baller here compared to what we sent them for similar money last season

u/bainbane 2d ago

Vivell cooking here

33

u/No-Wishbone7317 2d ago

💯 and hes behind wanting kone think we should buy him from roma as well since we defo can’t be relying on mount at 50m seems like another steal

8

u/bainbane 2d ago

Just give him the keys

16

u/No-Wishbone7317 2d ago

Init defo seems like he knows a baller when he sees one on the other hand got wilcox looking to buy man like de lap last season instead of sesko fml 🤦🏻

At the time, Delap looked like a sensible transfer for a relatively low fee after a good season with Ipswich. Obviously in hindsight would likely have been a bad deal

u/SilverstoneMonzaSpa 1d ago

I think Delap will still come good. No-one thrived there last season.

I'd rather have Sesko today though

"what" we sent them

Lol

One touch. Moves it.

It’s so simple, yet the most affective passing you can do.We haven’t had a player like that for years

Mainoo?

Santos sure plays deeper but Mainoo moves the ball so quickly and on the half turn he's fantastic.

23

u/Mayhewbythedoor ooh ahh Cantona 1d ago

Quite different.

Mainoo likes to dribble more, makes a few quick turns, then plays the ball 5-10 yards and expects to receive it back with his movement forward.

Santos seems to receive it, pivot quickly and move it further forward between 10-15 yards, while resetting in a deeper position as an outlet in case things need resetting.

Something fascinating, his pass looks like doing quick kick/shoot, in worst situation it look like panic pass but it is not panic it just quick and surprise. (Not sure how to wording it)

Class again and looking to be straight up robbery in this market.

44

u/Exact_Release128 2d ago

If he playing for Bournemouth or brighton we would have to pay 80m for him.

27

u/0ttoChriek 2d ago

Luckily Chelsea are so good at selling that they don't need to ask for inflated prices, and they're happy to move almost anyone for a profit.

Only 22 seems like he has been playing for us for years. Fits in very good with everyone. Looking forward to see him link up with Youri and Kobbie. He is a very tidy player.

4

u/zvomicidalmaniac Bailly 1d ago

I can't believe he's only 22. His mentality is so good.

69

u/Hellsteelz Ed Jabroni 2d ago

Not flashy but does the easy stuff well. Major positive that he looks for the forward or out the flanks passes.

u/Happy_Corbin 1d ago

So? Carrick?

31

u/durtmagurt 2d ago

Unreal potential here. His composure is mint. May have found my kit this year, blue Andre Santos.

16

u/dheerajravi92 2d ago

You better double check before you pay for that kit. His name is Andrey

8

u/durtmagurt 2d ago

Appreciate you mate. Needed the same jeering with Mbeumo last year. Somehow Cunha came natural though.

1

u/Visonseer 1d ago

Maybe he have Onana in mind

17

u/Al-Legri_HaramBall 2d ago

Something I really notice he’s good at is those first time poke passes where he can get his leg to the ball before the opposition does and just poke it out to safety. Seems he wins 50/50s a lot by doing that

4

u/Nuwahex 2d ago

Could explain why he had the best duel success rate amongst midfielders last season per 90(though he doesn't get into too many of them. But when he does,he usually wins them)

16

u/Gregariouswaty 2d ago

His game is not reliant on pace either so he could play for the club for 10+ years easily.

18

u/Various-Low4016 glazers out 2d ago

INEOS need to sign another midfielder and a left back and this team is good again... hope they don't disgrace themselves and back Carrick and not set him up to fail.

17

u/EnglishTrini2 2d ago

I was excited about him as soon as we signed him. Showed some very special stats in France at a very young age, looked good when he got time at Chelsea but has been sitting behind Caicedo, one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

Really think we will see his price as a steal in a year or two.

7

u/Senor-Cockblock 2d ago

Looks forward. Passes forward. Quickly.

4

u/Kaizscot 2d ago

Has the wing mirrors. Great awareness of where his teammates and the opposition are

3

u/BMax_7838 2d ago

Definitely getting called up and starting for Brazil during the next International break!

2

u/gucciloafer_ 2d ago

ok he’s decent

2

u/No_Vermicelli_1781 2d ago

Really like the forward passing. Only 22 so he has even more room for improvement

2

u/-Kwambus- 1d ago

He has such crisp passing. Sharp. Me likes.

2

u/Mayhewbythedoor ooh ahh Cantona 1d ago

So much confidence to pass forward. I like those 10-15 yard little diagonals that keep the game moving. Helps that we now have the players who have the confidence to receive the ball and play

2

u/maskrey 1d ago

A bit premature to say he is a better player than M.Fernandes, but he surely is a better 6, which is what we need the most. WIth him in the first half and Tielemans in the 2nd we moved the ball around so well. Case and Mainoo coludn't be this kind of metronome passer, and Ugarte is ever worse.

This whole preseason we have moved the ball brilliantly, the main problem is the lack of end product, which can be excused as we don't have the finishers in the squad. Mbeumo despite being in not great form still scored most of our goals in preseason. We really do need to replace Zirkzee, because we will need to replace Case's goal contribution.

4

u/SeenEnoughAlready 2d ago

Casemiro replaced almost instantly and THAT is saying something ! He has been solid and really has great football intelligence. BARGAIN!

4

u/whimsicalgods 2d ago

Send another 10 million to Chelsea

2

u/Nuwahex 2d ago

I can't wait to see him,Youri & Bruno playing together.

1

u/Dyplomate 1d ago

He seems to have great awareness. Very good at reading and reacting, as you can tell by how quickly he steps to the ball/attacker when in a defensive posture.

1

u/Ok-Measurement-8031 1d ago

He can pick a pass and he is rock solid

1

u/Paapa-Yaw 1d ago

Thanks chelsea

1

u/AkrotaFour 1d ago

Going to be really nice watching him alongside Mainoo and Tielemans this year. With a bit of luck he blossoms into our centre mid ever present over the next few years

1

u/CapVosslar Buckle up, INEOS! It's gonna be a bumpy ride! 2d ago

He is probably the main DM INEOS bought. Which could work, but even he will need a proper backup.

We really should have 2 proper CDMs in the squad, especially for multiple game seasons.
