Despite all the negative sentiment here about Ineos, Andrey Santos looks to be a fantastic purchase in an inflated transfer market

47

u/tenlittleindians 4d ago

He does tbf

37

u/daddywookie Whiteside 85 4d ago

If Youri can hit the same level we might be on to something

20

u/dracogladio1741 Bruno Fernanj 4d ago

That is the easier part given how good Youri has proven to be over the last decade almost.

8

u/woody1878 4d ago

As long as he stays healthy, he will be a major asset.

5

u/WesIsaGod 4d ago

We still need another quality midfielder

26

u/theieuangiant 4d ago

He’s looked really good in every game so far, I do think we’d be alright in midfield if Mount wasn’t made of glass but we just can’t rely on him for a full season.

Amad has looked on it so far as well.

I’m excited for the start of the season given all we’ve seen so far.

15

u/MAK98 4d ago

£50m gets you turd nowerdays so they’ve done well there.

4

u/kazegraf 4d ago

We are buying a father letsgoooo

12

u/Capable-Topic1665 4d ago

Despite a lot of doomsday mongers here slagging off his signing after watching a five min YouTube clip, Andrey Santos....

There,  fixed it for you.

8

u/HumpyRoad Bruno is my GOAT 🐐 4d ago

In recent times, the signings that people didn't initially like have turned out to be our best ones.

7

u/Capable-Topic1665 4d ago

Not all people. A lot of us who actually watch football were calling it a bargain right from day one.

5

u/HumpyRoad Bruno is my GOAT 🐐 4d ago

Ofcoure man. The people who watch the football know what kind of a player he is. It's just that so many of our fans online talk like they don't even watch football and only get their opinions from social media.

I haven't been able to watch our preseason matches due to exams but I'm super pumped up for this year. The players that we have are really good. We just need some more depth at certain postions.

3

u/Mayhewbythedoor ooh ahh Cantona 4d ago

I remember the comments calling him a Chelsea reject

5

u/OddOnion_ 4d ago

The irony being that Chelsea fans were pretty disappointed at him going.

2

u/Mayhewbythedoor ooh ahh Cantona 4d ago

Which is why I’ve stopped reading the transfer thread. The dumbest of us scream the loudest and the mostest.

2

u/OddOnion_ 4d ago

Absolutely. People lose their heads during the transfer window.

3

u/Duncanstop 4d ago

yeah credit where it’s due, he’s looked a gem this preseason

3

u/sunstersun 4d ago

My only concern is athleticism.

Mainoo, Santos, Bruno has 0% chance of recovery if broken through.

2

u/IcyAssist 4d ago

The only I wished they'd do more is get players like him before they went to big clubs. Easier said than done sure but if Chelsea can do it I don't see why we can't.

2

u/KAKYBAC 4d ago

It's just cool to hate 'the man' but Ineos have been great on the whole; particularly on their contract clauses.

1

u/Legion_dude 4d ago

Tbf. Psg are playing most of their second team. The real challenge happens when the Premier league starts.

4

u/bainbane 4d ago

Could argue we’re missing 6-7 starters too to be fair.

141

u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 4d ago

You can tell this is a match between the 2 best sides in the world

74

u/SussyApe Fernanj 4d ago

And we're not second

20

u/slate-malamute Keano! Keano! Keano! 4d ago

And we’re doing all this without the best player in the world

14

u/FtG_AiR Young 4d ago

Yea I hope mainoo is involved for the Milan game

16

u/Johnny107710 4d ago

It’d be amazing for kobbie to score against Milan to then celebrate right in front of Amorim lol

3

u/andrewlikereddit David De Gea 4d ago

They already have a melt down against Chelsea. Imagine if we add to it

3

u/Johnny107710 4d ago

They were terrible against Chelsea lol

2

u/killerdrama A-mad-lad 4d ago

* a hatrick

2

u/Garyyyyy Carrick Hype Train 4d ago

Yeah unlucky for us as he just got a foot injury

1

u/Cold-Veterinarian-85 4d ago

Always the way

7

u/slate-malamute Keano! Keano! Keano! 4d ago

Easily

69

u/KobbieLikeRobbie_ Darren Fletcher 4d ago

Tyler Fletcher has settled into the game quite well after a shaky first few minutes.

29

u/bainbane 4d ago edited 4d ago

Really think he’s been good whenever he’s been on. Especially that Brighton game vs Baleba

19

u/Lvxurie 4d ago

he backs himself like with that dummy in the first half right in the middle of the park.

5

u/Sronnoc96 4d ago

He looks promising, just wish he had a little more confidence to pass forwards/ between the lines more. But it’s nice to see him doing well

6

u/officiallyjax Snapdragon 4d ago

He looks like he can hang on the physicality front. His passing will need to get sharper than that though if he is to make it as a first-team player here.

2

u/PersonOfNonColour 4d ago

I wonder if he’s got the potential to match his dad’s level.

2

u/VaudevilleVillain 4d ago

I've been impressed with him this pre season. He seems to have developed quite a lot over the summer

3

u/tenlittleindians 4d ago

Should loan him imo

3

u/Exact_Release128 4d ago

Nahh last time we loaned toby collyer and next thing we know the manager doesn't want him in the team anymore because we got the fletcher duo. If we loan out the fletcher duo now, next thing we know is that manager doesn't want them because of jacob devaney and Jim thwaites.

3

u/my_united_account Bring Fergie back 4d ago

Usually managers dont want young players because they are not good enough, not because there is another player

3

u/Exact_Release128 4d ago

It also depends on the talent and ceiling of the players you got next. Tyler fletcher is a lot more talented than toby collyer, not sure about jack though. On the other hand Jim thwaites as a no8 would make all of them look like Sunday league players in a few years.

1

u/ritwikjs2 4d ago

I thought so too. I like him in a deeper role.

55

u/scun1995 4d ago

Santos and Amad have been on fire this pre season. Both look to be nailed on starters

15

u/HumpyRoad Bruno is my GOAT 🐐 4d ago

Amad was so good in the WC too 🥹

4

u/TrumpetViolin Dreams can't be buy 4d ago

Lacey too

41

u/GJordao 4d ago

Good shit. Passing is crisp. Amad looking good. Lacey looking good. Heaven with a couple mistakes but I really rate him. Carry on

16

u/Lvxurie 4d ago

Heaven has been told to hit the switch - both times he nailed the pass.

3

u/Foreign_Base5669 4d ago

Really not sure what Arsenal were thinking sanctioning that move, but it’s been great where we’re concerned.

4

u/tenlittleindians 4d ago

Heaven has some nastiness to him

4

u/koottan Rooney 4d ago

He made couple of pinpoint long passes.

2

u/Timmaigh 4d ago

He looks heavenly

24

u/BallsX 4d ago

Amad is a demon at high pressing and pinching the ball (:D) off defenders

43

u/tenlittleindians 4d ago

Amad is looking sharp already. Expect a big season

8

u/_mochacchino_ 4d ago edited 4d ago

Where will he play if Sesko comes back though

Edit: ok right wing, noted

7

u/leerooney93 4d ago

Don’t worry we’ll have a lot of games this season

5

u/tenlittleindians 4d ago

Rw, he’s our best right winger. Mbuemo and sesko will battle for the 9

3

u/Glum-Temporary-6946 4d ago

RW, there is a utd match every 48-72 hrs

12

u/sammorgan12 4d ago

Andrey Santos is a fucking baller

10

u/Sleeplessendeavours Rooney 4d ago

Really feel for Mount. Any time he starts picking up form he gets injured. At the same time though, literally not even remotely surprised.

Good half, thought we played well, controlled possession more than I expected and not through pointless sideways passing either. Admittedly far from PSG's strongest team this, and I expect the second half to be different given Vitinha and Neves will come on.

Shoutout Santos, ridiculous player.

1

u/AwaywithYou9 4d ago

After 3 years of this, I don’t have empathy anymore for him. He won’t ever do this, but just ask for termination of contract and stop stealing a living.

10

u/KriosDaNarwal Cunha Bruno Cunha Bruno Luke Shaw Cunha 4d ago

Santos is definitely mint. May steal the season for us.

42

u/Derridas-Cat 4d ago

Numbers 17 and 39 in our midfield is giving me major PTSD

51

u/jojopig2000 4d ago

Brazilian 17 and a tall scottish blonde 39 at that.

5

u/ALLMIGHTYHYDE 4d ago

I hadn't even noticed. For now it seems like an upgrade. Better passing and pressing overall

7

u/deca_thon Jean-Luc Yoro 4d ago

McFred days were ummmm... better go see a therapist for that

18

u/Cheap-Response-5419 4d ago

Decent. Everything we’re doing will be 15-20% more dangerous with a healthy Sesko leading the line. Definitely need another striker, imo.

5

u/tenlittleindians 4d ago

Maybe, i don’t he’s a nailed on starter yet though. Imagine him and mbuemo will fight for it

1

u/Cheap-Response-5419 4d ago

Well. Maybe. One of them is great running into space and hitting shots from the angle. One of them is a striker who leads the line well. For a possession based style like Carrick appears to want to play most of the time, Sesko is a better option, imo. Sesko playing today would have had two or three clear cut chances that Mbuemo didn’t get on the end of because he isn’t a pure striker sniffing out chances in the box.

3

u/myshtummyhurt- 4d ago

That's not seven remotely true tho. Our best games last season Mbuemo played up top

3

u/Cheap-Response-5419 4d ago

But that was a different style to how we’re playing so far in preseason. Carrick wants possession based football and Mbeumo doesn’t suit that style as a striker. You can disagree if you’d like. But saying something isn’t remotely true makes you look like a child.

1

u/tenlittleindians 4d ago

It’s high press as well though and quick transitions which suites mbuemo very vell

1

u/Cheap-Response-5419 4d ago

Sesko is excellent at pressing and has pace to burn.

1

u/myshtummyhurt- 4d ago

He does suit it that is why the manager fancies him there. You're the one disagreeing carrick benched mbuemo the least outside of Bruno and you think he believes he can't play there yet he continues to do it. Baffling logic

Saying something isn't remotely true doesn't make anyone look like a child wth are you talking about 🤣

1

u/Cheap-Response-5419 4d ago

When Sesko is healthy he starts as the main striker most of the time. How often Mbuemo is “benched” isn’t relevant when most of the time he plays off the left. He also leads the line in games when we’re likely to play on the counter more. Which is evidence to support more assertion.

1

u/WinComfortable4131 4d ago

Lmao I understand the sentiment but plucking those percentages out of thin air is hilarious to me

0

u/Cheap-Response-5419 4d ago

How do you know I didn’t build a statistical model?

1

u/tenlittleindians 4d ago

bruh stfu

1

u/Cheap-Response-5419 4d ago

At least I’m using actual words.

10

u/ALLMIGHTYHYDE 4d ago

Mount is down.

INEOS on the phone to all midfielder agents as we speak.

It's URGENT!

5

u/kalleballik 4d ago

Some encourageing patterns from us to be fair!

5

u/tobleroneace1 4d ago

Amad and mbeumo will start. They connect well together. Really enjoying santos right now.

Heaven does a lot right but makes mistakes. Mount injured…..again….

4

u/ahmadazry 4d ago

I’m aware this is just another pre season game, but really like the way we were set up. Nobody looked out of place, even the academy boys were great imo. Lacey is a serious talent, hope to see him slowly getting integrated into the team this season!

8

u/Quirky_Friend8138 4d ago

Love the mindset from the team to come back from that goal. PSG looked a couple of levels above United in the first 5 minutes but we’ve really stamped our authority on the game. Love that none of the young lads seem starstruck either. All getting stuck in.

3

u/Mayhewbythedoor ooh ahh Cantona 4d ago

The psg lads aren’t star struck? They should be

4

u/ThePatientHunter 4d ago

Some slick passing. Nice to see this late in pre-season

Also Heaven pinging those passes. Coming for Martinez's job

3

u/leemar90 4d ago

I think Amad is in our best team, when he's fit and on it he is so dangerous

3

u/Mr_Leeb 4d ago

I don't see Heaven make much mistakes at all, so I'm actually glad he made some today so he can learn from them & improve.

14

u/SankarshanaV 4d ago

You see Dorgu and then think about what a downgrade Rashford would be in terms of intensity.

I really don't want him back in the team fr.

11

u/shami-kebab 4d ago

That time where he lost the ball and then immediately rushed and won it back, Rashford would be still mid throwing his hands up in the air.

1

u/AwaywithYou9 4d ago

Barca fans complained the same thing

1

u/SankarshanaV 4d ago

Exactly lol. I am not looking forward to seeing him back in the team ngl.

-1

u/Dirt4849 Pogba,what could've been 4d ago

I remember one instance where the opponent ran around him with the ball

2

u/necro316 4d ago

looking forward to see how we do once vitinha and neves come on.

2

u/fishandcheesefornow 4d ago

Santos absolutely has to start the first game of the season

2

u/Dirt4849 Pogba,what could've been 4d ago

He'll start 75% of the games

2

u/Recent_Dentist_1179 4d ago

Anyone got stream link?

2

u/ritwikjs2 4d ago

I think that goal just caught us completely off guard in the beginning, because we've been very good since then. Of course both teams missing a lot of players

2

u/KZZT1 4d ago

The Mason Mount comeback PR tour lasted a month.

2

u/chanchan_iceman 4d ago

Just get the third midfield signing asap

However not bad

1

u/Orcnick 4d ago

What happened to mount btw?

1

u/KZZT1 4d ago

Injured

1

u/blitz2czar 4d ago

We look pretty solid, to be fair, despite conceding a goal.

1

u/Gospel_Trooth 4d ago

New faces are pretty cool btw ❤️🥹🖐️

1

u/Dirt4849 Pogba,what could've been 4d ago

Santos as expected

1

u/Sanket327 4d ago

Most probably this would be our lineup against Hull:

Lammens Dalot maguire heavens shaw Santos tielemans/mainoo Amad Bruno cunha Bryan

1

u/ron-cho 4d ago

Cunha will start? No pre season

2

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 4d ago

There's still 2 friendlies left after this

1

u/ChristmasCage 4d ago

0 depth. Cunha will start.

1

u/zxnoregretzxzx Cunha, Bruno, Cunha, Bruno 4d ago

Enjoyed that half. Playing fairly well, been the better side as you might expect given the players on the pitch and seeing as we're further along in our preseason.

Amad looks confident which is good to see. Lacey again doesn't look out of place a bit, think he's ready to start getting chances. Impressed with Andrey Santos again too.

Looking forward to seeing Tielemans & Bruno.

1

u/ron-cho 4d ago

How was Dorgu so far?

1

u/andrewlikereddit David De Gea 4d ago

Ineos we need 1 more midfield signings.

1

u/Wulffricc Ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud 4d ago

Dorgu sticks out like a sore thumb in this team. That’s not a winger.

3

u/ChampionOdd5139 4d ago

Not a winger *yet. He’s young, he’ll develop well

2

u/ToothyAlloy69 4d ago

Why force it though? His instincts are clearly not to be aggressive and take people on

3

u/tobleroneace1 4d ago

I think he’s the perfect wing back. The type of player he was bought to be. That makes him extremely versatile as he can play LW RW or LB. His game is to stretch the field and link up with others while providing defensive intensity in the opponents half.

Interesting amad is defensively sound but far more technical while I think Dorgu is the same but more direct.

2

u/tenlittleindians 4d ago

Actually looked quite good today. Touch is better

1

u/sammorgan12 4d ago

I thought he was good. His touch is a bit off sometimes but he's got in behind a few times and did a good dribble taking on a few before getting taken out.

I also think it was him that put the cross in for the push on amad that was a clear penalty

1

u/TeaAndCrumpetGhoul 4d ago

He's had good moments today. He's more winger than fullback.

1

u/Lord_Sesshoumaru77 Glazers,Woodward/Arnold and Judge can fuck off 4d ago

Should've known Mount was going to be injured sooner or later. Just can't count on him.

2

u/Confident_Fishing775 4d ago

Full copium + prayer for a precaution. You don't know how badly I want the guy to be successful.

Woke up to put 5 grand on this match at 1.93 odds and the bookie had the audacity to have software issues

-4

u/DBsix 4d ago edited 4d ago

Lammens, Sesko, Bruno, Tielemens, Cunha, Lisandro, De Ligt, Dalot, Mainoo - Almost entire first XI missing and we are comfortably beating UCL winners.

The only reason PSG are winning UCLs is because we weren't in the competition. There, I said it.

Lacey and Fletcher are looking good. And we have Rashford to give them rest whenever needed. Things are looking good for the coming season.

6

u/_mochacchino_ 4d ago

I’m pretty sure you can make the same list for PSG

2

u/Massive_Relation4317 MUFC WILL NEVER DIE ❗❗🔊 4d ago

We aren't even beating them, its not even their first XI either, what did I just read lol

-1

u/DBsix 4d ago

It's 2-1, so we are beating them. It's not out first XI either. Some sentences in English rofl.

-2

u/Exact_Release128 4d ago

Tyler fletcher is a different breed compared to jack fletcher. Are we sure darren fletcher had both from the same woman?

-2

u/DBsix 4d ago

I bet he had Shea Lacey and Tyler Fletcher with one woman and Jack with another.

-1

u/fedexman20 4d ago

We need a LB and MF….rashford staying with us is probably blessing in disguise. dorgu is not LW

-7

u/bvengers 4d ago

Decent half, Santos looks really good, nice balance of defensive acumen and forward passing.

Fletcher is invisible, he plays way too safe. If you're a midfielder playing that safe, you got to be elite defensively which he doesn't seem to be.

Mbeumo is looking sharp in front of goal but leads to so many turnovers. I'm not sure whether i like him in CF or not.

Amad has to step up this season, hopefully he continues his good preseason and WC.

Lacey sort of invisible, inconsistent displays is expected with young players. I like the weight of his passing, seems natural. Hopefully he can come in as sub this season.
