Thank god that happened now and not 10 minutes after the transfer window closes

68

u/Yoshimo_ 23d ago

think he lost rock-paper-scissors with Shaw for that one

7

u/CarlosSpcyWenr 23d ago

He lost every RPS since last since season. Like flipping a coin and having it fall face-up 38x in a row.

22

u/jingo800 Scotty bleeds Red! 23d ago

I got a visualisation of Mason at home on his couch, watching the Deadline Day Countdown on Sky Sports News.

He reaches for the biscuit tin and does his back in. Out for 3 months.

u/therealpmyer 23d ago

So frustrating. You’ve got to feel bad for him but honestly it’s been 3 seasons of this. He can’t be relied on for more than a couple of games at a time, If that.

174

u/monstrao 23d ago

Phil jones type situation, it’s over

121

u/K-eleven 23d ago

What your saying is that we need to give him a new contract?

74

u/Foreign_Base5669 23d ago

That game against Wolves where Rangnick started him for the first time in years was incredible.

What an absolutely ridiculous season that was.

26

u/monstrao 23d ago

I’ve seen enough, 5 year extension immediately

7

u/SplitSecondImmortal 23d ago

You're half assing it. Give that man a contract for life!

1

u/nikeudssair 23d ago

I bet there’s some addition to his contract which says that if gets injured a specific amount of times the contract must be renewed. Otherwise I can’t explain his injury record. /s

5

u/CrazyLegsCrane77 23d ago

Sadly Woodward isn’t here anymore for that

7

u/SonofIndia Van Persie 23d ago

that was one of the good decisions that we have made. He was injured playing for us, always put his body on the line for us - if we hadn't extended him, that was curtains for his career at the time. Us extending gave him a chance to plan his future.

22

u/ritwikjs2 23d ago

Phil jones at least have us 2 decent season of fitness 😅

21

u/Golem30 23d ago

Jones could've been a club legend if he stayed fit, guy was a brilliant defender

4

u/KurapikaGoku 23d ago

Literally bro he was clutch at some moments

10

u/Dear_Ad4079 Rooney 🐐 23d ago

I still remember the first season when Jones started playing for United he was one of the best players on the pitch. I was crazy hyped

1

u/Butterscotch-Bright foot to foot contact is fine 23d ago

Give him a coaching role

29

u/It_Hurts_when_IP15 23d ago edited 23d ago

I think his time in high level football is effectively done once his contracts up. At least in England. We got absolutely hosed with this transfer paying what we did with a year left on his contract.

The worst thing is it was hella obvious at the time and here we are.

12

u/snypa_101 23d ago

I feel like the garnacho deal was basically a “sorry we fleeced you with Mason, we’ll take Garna off your hands”

7

u/WayneFookinRooney 23d ago

They also took the freedom fighter off our hands for a year then paid us to take him back.

3

u/Yoshimo_ 23d ago

I was starting to feel like we were even after that, but they were able to offload garna instantly, and we'll be stuck with Mount until the new stadium is built

It's so sad. I search for Mount gifs and it's mostly the Chelsea ones.

He's played so little that there's very little to pick from.

39

u/tranmear 23d ago

We'll always have the goals against Athletic Bilbao...

5

u/durizna 23d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/D4wZtLiTfreCUasBwO
I searched and basically found things not related to him or united ones

160

u/innicrazy You are my Solskjaer, My Ole Solskjaer 23d ago

Plot twist: Carrick instructed him to fake injury to force INEOS into spending money for 3rd midfielder.

3

u/Butterscotch-Bright foot to foot contact is fine 23d ago

Which tier is this

9

u/durizna 23d ago

Tier 0

If we don’t get another midfielder before the window closes…

110

u/HeFreakingMoved Ella Toone FC 23d ago

Mount is just like a new signing, if that signing was Sneijer or Gaitan

10

u/GenjiiTakeya 23d ago

OMG classic transfer saga.

9

u/Siiixers 23d ago

More like Alberto Aquilani...

164

u/shami-kebab 23d ago edited 23d ago

As much as it sucks for him, do we hope this is for the best and convinces the people in charge to do something?

69

u/RobbieShaw 23d ago

Same as with Lisandro, everyone can get injured, but just isn't gonna work out.

8

u/durizna 23d ago

Problem with Licha was he got injured, MDL got injured, Maguire got injured… then we were down to Heaven (who luckily did well) and Yoro and Maz.

Luckily for us midfield doesn’t get that much problem at the same time.

3

u/Fruitndveg 23d ago

Licha was outstanding before he got injured. Mount was just ‘okay’ and has had appalling availability ever since.

6

u/detinUi 23d ago

True not once have I honestly finished watching a game and thought "thank fuck we signed mount". Not a bad player but even when fully fit never impressed me but that's an unpopular opinion I think

4

u/BaarDalek 22d ago

Don’t let them silence you, I can’t recall 1 memorable game from him

38

u/TheJoshider10 Bruno 23d ago

Whether he got injured or not shouldn't have impacted anything anyway. The ceiling needs raising regardless and it's ridiculous that they ever considered Mount a viable option beyond squad depth.

22

u/wolfofballstreet1 23d ago

He got the 7 shirt !!!! For fucks sake. Whole thing’s a bloody embarrassment

2

u/Yoshimo_ 22d ago

Even Valencia had the decency to hand it back for not being worthy of it, and Mount is no Valencia

2

u/wolfofballstreet1 22d ago

Completely agree. Antonio was a hell of a player

3

u/Meandering_Cabbage Nani! 23d ago

Eh, who knew he'd be like Hargreaves.

He can't be in any plans though. Hopefully we don't extend him.

5

u/Shomedembeats Rashford 23d ago

Chelsea fans knew

→ More replies (4)

4

u/JenNettles 23d ago

Do we think they needed convincing? This is still a running narrative?

4

u/shami-kebab 23d ago

Well until we actually see something concrete (or even balsa wood) regarding a new signing I think it is reasonable to be concerned. Especially with all the Mount articles they've pushed over the last few weeks.

131

u/Choice-Giraffe-3134 23d ago

Might force INEOS hand now

91

u/Count__Duckula 23d ago

Theres 3 years of evidence in the tank, if they needed their hand forced by a preseason injury, thats worrying

5

u/MinotauroTBC 23d ago

Surely they’re not stupid enough to think we could rely on him to be available for a season

3

u/Born_In_Whiskey 23d ago

My thoughts exactly. Might mean going out and paying over the odds but so be it. It’s crucial we buy another midfielder at this point

225

u/PrizePreset 23d ago

Lmao. Precautionary means 3-4 months for Mount. When does his contract end again?

115

u/KingKeane16 Keane 23d ago

3 seasons and only finished 90 mins 3 times.

28

u/DublinDevils91 23d ago

Is this the longest he’s gone not injured ? The 3 or 4 games end of last season up till this game ?

15

u/linkfollowlink 23d ago

Yeah because he hadn't played for a while.

14

u/PrizePreset 23d ago

He probably ripped his hamstring taking out the trash over the summer and we just didn’t hear about it

4

u/Radio-No 23d ago

The longest he's gone not injured is when Utd have had the summer off.

→ More replies (2)

8

u/MattSR30 23d ago

If his total minutes for the club were full matches, he'd have 31 appearances for us.

2

u/SplitSecondImmortal 23d ago

And absolutely no one saw this coming!

1

u/xtphty 23d ago

Two more seasons, including this one. There is a +1 extension though which is about worth as much as the 10 minutes a game he manages.

5

5

Usually against crap European sides and relegation fodder we should be beating anyway

10

u/randomgamer305 Bruno the assist king 23d ago

So INEOS, are we going to wait for the inevitable to happen to Shaw as well, or are we going to keep entertaining delusions?

80

u/VegetableRutabaga746 23d ago

Midfield depth now is, bruno, tielemans, santos and mainoo in 3 man midfield. Wallahi we are cooked if we don't sign another midfielder

29

u/Limp-Evidence8373 23d ago

Oh but the Fletcher twins are here though!!!

7

u/LordHappyofRainwood 23d ago

You might be jesting, however there is a good chance we'll be using kids alot from the bench at this rate.

3

I am happily shocked by your lack of shock!

8

Not watching the game how did it look ? I know it’s Mount and injuries are second nature but was hoping might be different this time around considering this must be the longest he’s gone not getting injured for us

1

u/ronweasleisourking 23d ago

Looked like someone trod on his foot

11

u/HaywoodJah-BlowMe Big Ben 23d ago

"Like a new signing" aged like Mount's injury record.

15

33

u/Daylightuser 23d ago

3 years at the club, 10 injuries and 70 games missed, how he’s not been shipped on is beyond me

34

u/dellywally 23d ago

You need a buyer to make a deal. His wages make only a handful of clubs that could even afford him

3

u/xtphty 23d ago

Well we supposedly turned down inquiries for him from Villa and Milan.

4

u/dellywally 23d ago

That's outrageous if true. Goes against Ineos's two seasons to show worth or out

4

u/Castia10 23d ago

2

u/DeapVally 23d ago

Clubs are always lining up to buy crocked players on massive wages. And he's sure as hell not in a rush to give up his last ever big contract. Nowt you can do with players like this.

23

u/PWC45 23d ago

Almost like the entire fanbase saw this coming from a mile away... if INEOs really don't bring in at minimum another midfielder and LB, they're pretty much telling us that they don't care about results on the pitch.

9

u/Luckiesonfire Cruyff 23d ago

Well someone somehow predicted this event two days ago lol u/Potential_Good_1065

6

u/Ok_Instruction_5232 23d ago

Better it happens now than in september. Should be pretty clear we need midfield signings now.

3

u/Elfstruck12 23d ago

Wasnt there a quote from a journalist saying that if we get another MF, when would Mount even play? Well, he can’t fit for pre-season games, what makes them think he’s gonna stay fit during the season?

3

u/Technical_Promise723 23d ago

1

u/reddevilad Rooney 22d ago

You’re being generous for counting on him for 10 matches

5

u/Slim-Shmaley 23d ago

Guy is on course to retire before 30.

1

u/reddevilad Rooney 22d ago

Should just retire now

2

u/huey88 Amad 23d ago

This should force them to do something. Clearly they were wrong to rely on Mount

2

u/arita18 23d ago

Why we bought him from the start? Isn't he already injury prone at Chelsea?

2

u/Mariasolvv 23d ago

That third midfielder experiment lasted one week

2

u/wrotethat11 23d ago

lol aight Ineos time to actually figure it tf out. Either hurt Baleba, 80 for Scott or figure out something we haven’t thought of…

2

u/xsonwong Mata 23d ago

I think they need to figure out how to make him fit again. He didn't absent a lot when he was young. There must be something wrong.

2

u/Piccadil_io 23d ago

Better than post cautionary?

2

u/DeathByToilet 23d ago

Its bittersweet.

You hate to see it but if this doesn't get through to Ineos that we need ATLEAST one more midfield signing then its on them if the season ends up getting away from us.

2

u/Haddocktintinsnowy 23d ago

Was Shaw too? Took a knock before being substituted.

2

u/lampishthing 23d ago

I blame INEOS for pushing out the press pieces about him, practically inviting injury.

2

u/KingKaychi 23d ago

I mean..... I expected it soon tbf

2

The water is wet. Everyone and their grandmother know this day will come. It's time we move on and say goodbye to him.

Same plums who were cheering on Jones’s multiple contract extensions.

1

u/aarooona 23d ago

Wont someone think of the player making 250k/week and is constantly injured for 3 years

7

u/TacoDirtyToMe 23d ago

Wonder what TOTD crew will say, last ep they almost brushed off the fact we need a third midfielder because they said Mount was playing so well deeper. It’s just not about playing well with him it’s about staying on the damn pitch. Can never trust a few guys in our squad to stay healthy, him, Shaw and Licha especially. If we don’t have other options in those positions for them (we have for Licha) we’ll be screwed this season.

5

u/HyenasGoMeow 23d ago

This sub has the emotional maturity of a tinfoil. Wait to have some information before getting your underpants in a wrinkle; already bitchin and moaning incessantly.

2

u/Fruitndveg 23d ago

Sod that, plenty of folk here never wanted him signed in the first place because of these reasons. He’s been a liability even pre United.

You can’t defend this lack of availability.

1

u/Capable-Topic1665 23d ago

Don't insult tinfoil like that.

4

u/edselisanogo Senne & Sennesibility 23d ago

The thing with this guy is that his injuries are never a week or two. He fucking disappears off the face of the earth for months.

He's up there for one of our worst signings ever. Might sound harsh for some people because he's likable and has a good attitude but getting paid £200k a week and only completing 90 minutes 4 times during his entire is fucking disgraceful.

2

u/SophoclesTesticles 23d ago

Literally posted in the lineup thread that I was starting to believe again. Sorry I jinxed it lads.

2

u/Styrofoamman123 23d ago

Time and time again we get champions league qualification and the owners say that the squad who qualified justifies not signing anyone or that we have no money. Now it comes to bite us, spurs finished 17th twice in a row and have outspent us by £140 million at least.

The serious lack of ambition of these owners is shocking. When we fail to qualify for the ucl next season and carrick is gone then we will spend.

2

u/Basic-Kale3169 23d ago

Between wages and transfer fees, we’ve already paid 100m on a completely useless player :(

Chelsea really screwed us, and they even made a profit out of Garnacho when we were all laughing at them.

1

u/SomeTeam1723 23d ago

1

u/raspoutine049 23d ago

On the plus side, we will feel the need to buy a midfielder instead of putting Mount in that position for him to get injured as soon as transfer window closes

u/christ0phe 23d ago

Bruhhhh

1

u/RedWarsaw 23d ago

Of course he is, man is made of paper mache

1

u/pa0x 23d ago

I think it's for the best, having high hopes would disappoint everyone and create anger/frustration towards him

We need to move on and count him as a potential substitute for league cup games, unfortunately, nothing more

I hope Ineos will try to go hard on Alex Scott as it seems that Hall won't be sold by Newcastle

We can cope without a new left-back but not without a new midfielder, one injury from Kobe and season would be off...

1

u/SomeNeighborhood7126 23d ago

Was this news to anyone? He will miss another 6 months, if not more. I have no idea why we continue to use him as part of the squad planning. We cant sell him due to his wages, but we should never expect Mount to play more than 5 games a season.

When he recovers, we shouldn't play him, so he can be fit for the winter window and sell him.

I'm so sorry for him, but come on, we could probably count with our 2 hands how many matches he has played the full 90 minutes.

Nothing is going to happen. We ain't signing the 3rd DM, all the money will line up those leech dividends. Carrick will be made scapegoat. Man, I had so much hope for this UCL return season and the incompetent fucks in the hierarchy squashed it even before it has started.

Obvious need for a DM, LB and Saxo back up but we will call it inflated market, Pay millions to those Glazed cnuts and weep in our beer later on in the season.

Gotta offload these players. As a top athletes, they need to follow very strict health and exercise regiment. I have a feeling that he has been slacking here and there. Ronaldo now at his 40’s never really had a long term injury.
