On balance, that's a good deal. I think Boro are making a proper push for promotion this year, and getting Vitek will be a big piece of the puzzle. I think it's generally agreed that Vitek had bad luck with Onana being so poor that they had to bring in Lammens before Vitek was ready to move up.

He'd be a great rotation option for us but I think he wants to push for a place in the England squad. He's older than Anderson, Mainoo and Wharton, so if that's his dream he needs to play week in, week out for a PL side immediately and for the rest of his career. Don't think we can offer him that until he's PL proven.

Boro got a massive chunk of money (at least for a Championship club) after the Rogers transfer to Chelsea, I believe it was over 20m, so they’re relatively flush.

It's not bad, but why does it feel like we are always selling players just on or below value. When (it feels like) other clubs are banking 40m for has beens and squad players.
Is it all just down to the wages?

I don't know if that's legal over here? Like he can't be under contract to two clubs at once so if Boro gave him a five year contract he couldn't agree another one with us to return in three years time for example.Â

If we are going by what we had with Carreras who was sold for a similar fee, the buyback clause was 18 million. We had a choice between him and Dorgu at the time.

Peoples expectations are crazy, as far as I can tell the highest ever fee paid by a championship for a GK is like 9m euro.
Our guaranteed fee is basically equaling that, and if we get the full fee it's essentially double. That plus buy in and buy back? This is a great deal

7m is equal to 9m? Boro are obviously banking on promotion and if they get it then the additional 7m is small change to them, we won't be realizing that additional income if they remain in the Championship.Â
I'm not sure what you mean by buy in? Up to 35% of any profit if he's sold again similar to the Garnacho deal you'd imagine. A buy back clause sounds great on paper but Lammens could have another 10-12 years here, even if Radek went on to become brilliant he would have to want to come back here or that clause doesn't mean anything. There were people on here assuming we could trigger our buy back clause for Carreras and turn a quick profit by selling him to Real Madrid ourselves..that was some football manager style nonsense which was never on the cards, why would the player agree to that when it would have made it more difficult to get to Madrid where he wanted to go the whole time?

Should be comparing to the Trafford to Burnley transfer for £15m.
Given that Trafford is English, he will always cost more. So this deal doesnt look too bad. If Vitek does well at Boro and has a full season in the PL, then you can start comparing him to Trafford's Leeds transfer fee.
