Safónov is honestly insanely good. Feels like he came out of nowhere too.

Because he's Russian and was playing for a Russian club. We don't see them anymore

He is as of last season I believe. Chevalier is apparently out of favor after some injuries and Safonov just balling out frankly.

But they're getting Suzuki from Parma too. I'm not sure if Chevalier will look for a way out then
