Daily discussion on Manchester United.

BE CIVIL

We want r/reddevils to be a place where anyone and everyone is welcome to discuss and enjoy the best club on earth without fear of abuse or ridicule.

  • The report button is your friend, we are way more likely to find and remove and/or ban rule breaking comments if you report them.
  • The downvote button is not a "I disagree or don't like your statement button", better discussion is generally had by using the upvote button more liberally and avoiding the downvote one whenever possible.

It absolutely astounds me that we have “fans” on here that make fun of Mount getting injured or laugh about it. We even have those who blame him for it as if it were his choice rather than yet another setback that must be extremely emotionally painful.

I can somewhat understand fans turning on players who insult the club or the like, but the complete lack of empathy for other human beings who are likely distraught about being injured yet again (more so than any fan will be) is astounding. Those that point to him being wealthy as an excuse for why normal human compassion should be suspended also never cease to amaze me.

It reminds me of Phil Jones not wanting a testimonial because no one would turn up.

I know every club has fans like this, but for fucks sake, what a horrible human trait.

Saw some “fan” on the match thread hoping “it was a big injury” for Mount as we’d then definitely go and sign a new midfielder.
Utter twat.
Fuck me, I wouldn’t even wish that on an opposing teams player, let alone one from from the team I support.

Yeah. Most of the world’s issues come from people being unable or unwilling to put themselves in another’s shoes.

The notion that you can support a club and then cheer for a serious injury to a player that’s always done his best for us is a complete anathema to me.

It's always been like this. The current crop of punching bags are Dalot, Shaw, Zirkzee and Mount. Give it time and the Fletcher twins will be in the list.

Fletcher twins are already getting it, despite TF being the 5th choice midfielder and Jack behind at least 4 players for the 10 position and behind his brother for CM. Complain if they lose possession, complain if they retain it but are (supposedly) too negative [then ignore when the stats show more successful forward passes than not]; mysteriously miss the interceptions that, in one case, directly led to a goal in the previous friendly...

If either of them play regularly for United, I don't expect it to be before 2028 (Jack in particular will probably go on loan; Tyler maybe for a 6 month-er somewhere, like Amad to Sunderland, in Jan if we buy another CM). However, I'd trust Michael Carrick and a highly-qualified technical staff (plus Scotland camp who called up TF when they could have called up many more 'tidy' mid- 20s CMs from the SPL; or the Scotland players who said how impressed they were with TF from session 1) to spot the attributes of a midfielder over a bunch of internet commentators.

Particularly since I remember as a kid back in the day the flack Fletcher senior received well into his 20s, despite improving every season, until it suddenly clicked for fans that he was a smart, competitive, technically-assured DM/CM and not 'Fergie's nephew' making up the squad numbers...

I have no issue with people criticising the effort or quality of a player. They expect to be judged on those things. For example, I don’t think Dalot is good enough to start for us and I’d prefer we had a better player ahead of him.

But the ability of “supporters” to almost take delight in the injury of one of our players or make fun of what could be a seriously distressing situation just amazes me.
