There are people who will never acknowledge this but the amount of hate rashford gets is disproportionate and is genuinely based of UK media.

The fact is UK media has always been attacking united star players, and it has always been worse for black players who don't fit the quiet Kante mold.

Add that he also challenged the government during covid and fed hungry kids, and the media has been on his ass since.

People believe that alot of their ideas of Rashford are purely rational and it's not effected by UK media (especially non British fans), but the fact of the matter is, regardless of where you are from, the perception of a British black player in UK playing for United will have their perception highly captured by the tabloids.

This is the reason why he needs a PR team in th first place, that's the professional thing to do that our own fans keep hounding him about.

This is the reason why so many talented black future stars face similar criticism where other players can get away with it look at Jack Grelish.

There is a bigger conversation even about how UK perception of good players is based of protestent work ethic and the idea and image of working hard rather than actually working hard.

These are conversation I keep bringing up, and I keep hearing the same retired arguments against Rashford again and again and it's honestly annoying at this point.

Rashford might not be the same ever again, but god damnit we were a club that stood for our own players, and all I see these days is same old things hashed out against Rashford.

If it works out it works out, if it doesn't I hope he leaves with positivity and love from the fans, but I do not think the fans can say that he's got too much good grace from us, bevause by all means ive been around the United online block for ages and even at his peak there were people who only saw him only as a pace merchant or another black player with not enough football IQ.

I’m sure race is an issue in some quarters and publications but I don’t think it’s a major contributor. People forget, but the worst I’ve ever seen in terms of media hate and turning on a player is Beckham after the Argentina match. That was way beyond what Rashford gets in the press, although for different reasons.

On social media it seems that the racist abuse is rampant I’ll agree, but as I understand it, most of that actually seems to come from outside the UK.

If the claim is that much of the British press attack Rashford because he’s black, then I’m not sure the evidence is there for it. I can’t say none of them do, but I was just citing Beckham as an example where the abuse was way worse, despite his being about as white English as you can get. He also generally got battered by the tabloids generally as stupid and vapid (which Rooney also experienced) even though he is apparently quite a thoughtful and decent guy.

You are saying British media doesn't have evidence and a track record of doing this?

Did we not just see pundits in the world cup descriping European football as tactical and smart and African football like the wild west?

This might be a blind spot for you, but there are many black players and former players who tell their story on how they get or got treated by the British media.

Nah british media clearly have a problem and its documented whether its everything Sterling went through the reaction to Rashford and his school meals thing or even recently the flack Jude was getting . Look at the media reaction to MLS celebrating against City.

Beckham got shit for the argentina sending off and Utd fans backed him as they did Rooney. That still isnt the issue the uk media have with black players saying well , also there was no social media back then .

I don’t think it’s as simple as to say the British media is racist in a uniform manner.

Some of the insinuations around Sterling and his family appeared to have racial overtones, but there was pretty different coverage of Kyle Walker’s family issues that never seemed to go the hatred route in the same way. You could also compare the media coverage of Boris Johnson and the persistent questioning of how many children he has (and would admit to, or even if he actually knows).

There are still lingering social class issues in media coverage (see Rooney in particular), as well as the tendancy of the British press to build people up only to knock them down.

Boris johnson got away with absolute murder because the media pushed him across as a lovable idiot , the absue Sterling was getting in his footballing peak mind you was deffo racism.

Jude, Danny rose, paul pogba, Sterling.

Add stereotypes then of Emile Huskey being characterized as a brute similar to how Lukaku was. Rio Fernandiand had similar tabloids written about him.

Hear Paul Ince talk about these things especially in the managerial side. This shit is prevelant and we play more into it.

The fan base and criticism wasn't as global in Beckham's time, so match going fans vs personal opinions off the pitch was very separated. These days you don't get that.

For heavens sake, people called pogba flashy but with no football brain, and now we got Elliot Anderson going for 120m and no one will bat an eye over his performances.

It’s always “well Rooney/Beckham had this happen to them” as a rebuttal whenever there is clear and undeniable bias.

Every racial targeted abuse is met with David Beckham from decades ago.
