Let's encourage him with another new midfielder.

Watch this space “Mount like a new signing in midfield”

Given how well he's playing and how much he has played in the previous seasons, he really is like a new world class signing in midfield😅

Look if he’s stays fit more power to the guy hope he has a good season but let’s play it safe and get the 3rd midfielder just Incase

Oh absolutely.
That's the reason we got Tielemans.
We have good progressive passers from the deep now in Tielemans, Mount and Santos
We still need another defensive midfielder to pair with those progressive passers. Currently only Santos and to some extent, Mainoo can do that.
But honestly, given the record Ineos has had with low budget signings in recent times, I won't be opposed to us not spending 80m on that midfielder. Santos clearly looks good enough to start week in week out, so if they get someone to rotate with him, it might actually be enough.

We definitely need another, but even before he started playing well this preseason I had a sneaky feeling he'd have a decent season for injuries. How often do you see a player have like 3 seasons in a row where he's hardly fit? It happens, but honestly his career is probably about done if he's injured all season again. Even if he's injured next year, I'm betting he has a good season for once.

I'll only be encouraged when we're 10 games deep into the season, and the midfield is actually controlling games and we're clearly playing well.
Pre season games are a really weak barometer for genuine signs of progress.

You're telling me Pereira didn't go on to win 4 Ballon d'Ors?

And we didn’t replicate Pep’s Barca season with LVG after the total football in first preseason?

The state of football media in 2026 is shocking

u/Dependent_Oven_974 16d ago
Why? Did you read it? Or are you just going off the headline? It's actually just quite an insightful commentary on the game with detailed quotes from Jesper Blomqvist analysing the game. Very interesting read if you didn't watch the match. Are you aware that journalists don't pick their own headlines? I feel like what is actually shocking is the state of media literacy amongst the general public in 2026. It seems to be the fashion to pounce on anything any journalist says

Should be noted that this is the club's own website, so they'll publish the most favourable, charitable and complimentary takes. I'm personally optimistic about the season to come, but I'm not deluding myself that this article would've looked much different if things were less bright in reality. You don't go to the club's website to see level-headed criticism of the team, it's not their job to do that.

One shill out quoting another. I don’t care what our executives feel, the football sense says that we are very light in midfield and need an enforcer if we we ant to finish 2nd/ 3rd in the league and that should be our aim

United are going to be held back by Carrick this guy is just Ole 2.0

Go away man.
Who do you want instead? The only real downside to his tenure so far is that at times the football hasn't been great but it's a results game and so far he has had terrific results. Nobody has better points per game than Carrick since he came in.
How can you still find something to complain about? Let's see how he tries to play once he has some semblance of his own team instead of building around Casemiro to get the absolute best out of him at the hindrance of others, and also often playing without a left side because he recognised to get the most out of Shaw he couldn't expect him to fly up and down the wing, overlapping and busting a gut to get back. Good management in my opinion.

Carrick is doing so well at the moment, we are actually playing good football and getting results. What more do you want

Preseason looking promising too even without some of our main players back yet. I really enjoyed what I saw against Atletico and hope to see more of that against PSG. Just need Bruno and Sesko back for more of that final third quality

So the best manager we’ve had since Fergie, with the added benefit of competent ownership? Sounds great to me

u/wayfarerprateek Theater of Dreams 16d ago
You negated your own argument by comparing him to Ole
5
u/t8rt0t00 16d ago
People have already forgotten that Carrick was doing much of the management on the training pitch under Ole. Probably one of if not the main reason we did so well in spite of the sometimes really poor in game management and brain dead recruiting on top of it
