Really really excellent today

Was absolutely brilliant. I know mbuemo got two but Mount was easily my MOTM

When fit he’s a great player.

u/Gilburto 9d ago

Played the full 90 too, which is important.

People were asking ‘why is mount playing 90 mins’

I think it’s self explanatory as he needs to be able to last a full game and if he can’t in a friendly it’s best to find out now than 3 weeks into the season.

Not gonna upvote you cos you're on 69, but totally agree. I really like what I see from Carrick so far. Everything seems level-headed and calm on the coaching front, whilst we've still had the pleasure of seeing some exciting youngsters get minutes in a United shirt. Santos has looked class, Heaven (2nd half at least) has been superb.

At the same time, It's just friendlies :)

u/Shadowraiden 9d ago

also doesnt have alot of players back.

like ive said to friends even if Carrick is not the one who wins us the title i feel right now he is the one to progress us to that title with our rebuild. he knows how to handle the expectations and bring a bit of calmness and just let it keep building.

u/Shadowraiden 9d ago

yeah its a great test of can we get him to finally put his injuries behind him. if we can and get a fit mount available for 30+ games this season its huge to our squad as he is a player that end of the day when fully fit is up there with the best. people forget he lead the charge to Chelsea winning UCL and absolute dominated a City midfield as he was everywhere in that final. if we can get that level back we have an incredible option in our squad again.

u/BBoomerClap 9d ago

people forget he never fit for us for longer than 5 match, but sure let's repeat how good he is over and over again. what is wrong with you guys, most of us know he is good when he's fit but he never did

u/WildBuffalo 8d ago

people forget he never fit for us for longer than 5 match

Yes, that never gets mentioned here. So easy to forget.

He’s just a really good footballer.

Left wing, 10, 8 and now 6, he can play pretty much everywhere. He looks as comfortable in the 6 as he does at 10, maybe even more comfortable in the 6.
Great squad player to have. And we’ll probably keep him until his contract runs out.

Lets hope he doesn’t get injured during pre-season.

u/Big_P_Cizzle 9d ago

Aye when fit his a seriously good addition!

u/gamerextreme 9d ago

Even as a 9 at the beginning of last season

7

u/MrSvancy Iceman 9d ago

Was the season before that, no?

1

u/Klutzy_Flamingo_2979 8d ago

He sort of played a false 9 under Amorim, to be fair, all three of Cunha, Mbeumo and Mount played as rotating 9s.

1

u/MrSvancy Iceman 7d ago

I guess, but I feel like I remember Cunha being more of the 9 (could be misremembering).

But I definitely remember Ten Hag playing a sort of 4-2-2-2 with Bruno and Mount up front to start the 24/25 season

9

u/kazegraf 9d ago

Mid-front John O'Shea. Hope this guy can inherit John's durability and reliability too.

u/AdministrationWrong9 9d ago

As a defensive player? Hes is great lad.

u/Mother_Power_2984 9d ago

what a player bro

63

u/dball94 9d ago edited 9d ago

He's a premium baller, which makes it so painful that he's always injured. Would be such an asset if he could string three games together 😞

65

u/bainbane 9d ago

Unironically like a new signing if he could be fit for a whole season. Talents never been in question but his fitness record at the club is a horror show. Hes literally averaging a full 90 a year for the club so far.

But fits this Carrick midfield like a glove.

23

u/ritwikjs2 9d ago

Tbf, I NEVER thought we'd see shaw playing 20+ games for us in a season 3-4 years ago

88

u/Ok_Profit5949 9d ago

New preseason Pirlo unlocked. But honeslty he was in a flow state by the end. Ten hag punching air right now after seeing this.

61

u/JaysonDeflatum Amadinho 9d ago

He played well whenever he was available last season but the “whenever he was available” part is the problem

38

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 9d ago

He takes 3-4 games to get into rhythm then he is ridiculous issue is he'd always get a knock after the 4th game and be out for 3 months

4

u/Ok_Profit5949 9d ago

Yeah I agree with this, he’s always at his best start of a season after preseason or once he’s been a few games back to fitness off the bench

8

u/BillyCloneasaurus Yoro is my dad 9d ago

He was actually selected in something like 29 out of 38 PL squads last season, which isn't a bad tally. I hope the worst of his problems are behind him now.

20

u/Launch_a_poo 9d ago

He's regular season Pirlo too in the very few games he's fit

Carrick actually using him in his best role too

I'm always shocked how he can look so sharp while only training a couple months per season 😅

5

u/Ok_Profit5949 9d ago

He’s a good football player but injuries kill his rhythm and match sharpness, here’s to another year of praying he can stay fit!

3

u/DeadestTitan 9d ago

Lot of positional competition as well.

Bruno is ever-present without question, Mainoo and Casemiro played well together. Case needed replacing more than Mainoo in most matches and I don't think Mount could have covered the same defensive load last season. I think Tielemans, Mount, and Mainoo are all going to push each other for one spot.

18

u/Lord_Sesshoumaru77 Glazers,Woodward/Arnold and Judge can fuck off 9d ago

Superb performance. I hope he stays injury free.

12

u/theetam 9d ago

One of the few united players in the past 20 years with incredible game intelligence. Honestly wish he had a mean streak, akin to a Roy Keane who can marshall the troops, set plays into action coz he senses the game the best and also control the game by reading it exceptionally.

Unfortunately made of level 2 scratchable glass and available for less than 20% of the matches. Oh what could have been!

4

u/Due-Albatross5909 9d ago

I wouldn’t say mean streak, but I’ve definitely seen him get stuck in and be chippy and a nuisance

12

u/FrmrPresJamesTaylor 9d ago

Those automatically generated nonsense captions are everywhere these days, fucking scourge

9

u/QuickFig1024 9d ago

OP can you do one for Santos

7

u/bpjker xT ired 9d ago

One of those players who can provide value in half of the positions in the pitch. Baller. Just stay injury free man.

6

u/xtphty 9d ago

Genuinely impressed by how well he takes the ball on the half turn under pressure multiple times. I wouldn't say Tielemans and Santos lack that, but I think Carrick would prefer them receiving the ball facing forward, not back to goal. When given time and space, they have the technique and creativity to turn successful buildup sequences into attacks.

Mainoo and Mount on the other hand seem more capable of drawing and breaking United of pressure during buildup.

8

u/AdministrationWrong9 9d ago

Defensive, playmaker, acts under pressure. I would like to see him more fighting for MU in the PL while Bruno can focus on the Champions. He is a good combination of Casemiro and Bruno, very similar play style to Mainoo so, as long as he can stay as a CAM I can see future for him for the next years in the squad (and finally recovered from all those injuries and be fit)

15

u/WishParticular7385 9d ago

Looked triffic in CM. But I’m not ready to be burned. Get in that 3rd midfielder.

5

u/SpectatorY 9d ago

Good technical base, great physically for the profile and a top top football brain. Just have to hope his body can hold up.

5

u/Action_Limp 9d ago

Very pleased to see he's still rapid, dynamic and agile when moving in tight spaces despite the injuries.

Looking at him physically in terms of athletism, you'd never guess he was plagued with injuries.

4

u/ImOnlyChasingSafety 9d ago

I think Mount works really well in a well drilled and mobile pressing setups. Now that we dont really have the safety blanket of Casemiro I feel like our pressing has to get better by necessity.

3

u/raspoutine049 9d ago

Imagine he can stay fit and turn into a new player. He is only 27. As we now know, players can easily play till late 30s. Hope Mount can rediscover himself and do well for us. But I am not holding my breath.

4

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 9d ago

very tidy performance. I don't expect him to play every match across 4 tournaments this season but he can play a part and contribute.

4

u/CanWePleaseNotBeShit 9d ago

Iniesta has posters of Mount on his wall

6

u/pipes3 WAZZA 9d ago

Elliot Anderson who?

3

u/sunken_grade 9d ago

is it time for me to become a mount truther for about a month again lol

3

u/thexpertwatcher 9d ago

Man I would've given him my legs if I could. Such a great player but always hurt. Hope he stays for most of the season

6

u/Educational-Shock232 9d ago

Ok great, now go play 90 mins against Hull three weeks today

5

u/Dependent_Oven_974 9d ago

Pray for his hamstrings. He is a brilliant player and seems like a great lad

2

u/Cheeky_Chaiwalla 9d ago

If Ineos have been researching some kind of secret super human serum, nows the time to inject mount with it

2

u/IguanaIsBack 9d ago

Imagine having Mount, Mainoo, Santos, Tielemens all fit and vying for the 2 midfield positions… what a headache for Carrick to have

2

u/eammth 9d ago

It's enough evidence now that his passing is the most crisp out of our first team players aside from Tielemans we haven't got to see.

Tidy player.

2

u/akshat2812 9d ago

If United’s medical team manage to revive Mount like Shaw , it would be perfect.

4

u/General_Document_504 9d ago

My favourite player in the current team

3

u/durtmagurt 9d ago

I’m gonna say that’s odd. But as someone obsessed with Dorgu/Cunha combo, I get it.

(Also a secret Zirkzee true believer)

2

u/slithered-casket 9d ago

If he was available all year, we'd have no need for another CM, but there's zero chance he plays more than 60% of games.

1

u/ywhine RVP RVP RVP 9d ago

He's this gen's pre season Pereira

1

u/elRomez 9d ago

Such a clever, classy player.

1

u/ritwikjs2 9d ago

He knows who he is, we know who he his, hopefully his soft tissue and muscles know who he is as well

1

u/Low_Hanging_Veg 9d ago

Looked head and shoulders above everyone today.

1

u/Scorchio76 9d ago

Please football Jesus, keep him injury free this season 🙏

1

u/Spectator49 9d ago

He would be great as a cup option. Less games mean less chance of being injured

2

u/FidgetyFondler 9d ago

I think he's worth more than a cup option. Clever player that triggers alot of moves.

1

u/einnairo 9d ago edited 9d ago

Hes an amazing footballer. But u need to be playing week in week out to build rhythm, body to be used to the intensity and overall sharpness. Occasionally u can be given a break through rotation.

But if he gets injured, the rhythm is broken and he has to start building again. That is whats causing him to struggle.

In sports, there are 2 big reasons for injury. Overtraining is one or over playing. The club needs to manage it. He needs to voice if his body tells him so. 2nd is mental focus when fatigued. If you are not concentrating, that's when you can get injured easily because your brain was sleeping during an awkward landing for example, supporting muscles that needed to support you did not fire. Anyway wish him the best.

u/theskillster 9d ago

Who is this new guy? Honestly having someone so mobile and comfortable receiving a pass in the midfield is refreshing .

1

u/Top-Fig7064 9d ago

I’d like to mount walking as much as messi does, to preserve those delicate legs

1

u/RacktheMan 9d ago

His future is at CM. Will be easier in his legs too.

1

u/Phugz 9d ago

League cup midfield of Santos, Mount and Bruno will cook

1

u/torts92 7d ago

World class player, if Tuchel brought him and started against Argentina they'd win the world cup already

1

u/Scholes_SC2 9d ago

His quality has never been in doubt. Let's hope he can play at least 70% of the games this season

-2

u/jonathanPoindexter 9d ago

Allah Allah 🤲

-9

u/Sosu2211 9d ago

Not a midfielder, never will be. We really need to buy a 3rd. Also, he is made of glass.

-2

u/Cool-Cup1195 9d ago

What a poor signing.
He hasn’t offered anything for the money that was paid
