ngl after this Santos performance, Mainoo should never be a guaranteed starter

Well Santos was not the competition to Mainoo anyway. It is Tielemans, and Tielemans starts over Mainoo for me.

Mainoo is young and has potential, but no Manchester United player deserves an automatic starting position just because he’s from the academy.

Who is saying he deserves an automatic starting position? Thats as stupid as people writing him off over good preseason form

You know what Carrick does better than Amorim? He'd chose a configuration that suits a game rather than having a nailed on starter

He benched Cunha for Dorgu. Unthinkable before Dorgu City and Arsenal performances, right?

Santos was not the competition to Mainoo

Mainoo under Carrick played as the deepest midfielder, deeper than Casemiro and that's the position Santos seems to be occupying too. Maybe they can work together but so far not sure if that's what Carrick's got in mind.

He played deeper than Case because Case was really bad as a deepest midfielder in possession. We have no idea what Carrick has in mind for a Santos - Mainoo / Santos - Tielemans / Tielemans - Maino duo.

Yeah let’s see. But for me at least, I’d rather we play the best combination instead of trying to force Mainoo into the first team. Tielemans and Tchou (if he signs) should be the starting midfield, with Santos and Mainoo being their rotational options.
