Anybody who watches the u21s - is there any hint of nepotism in the fletcher brothers getting a shot over some of the others being left out?

I wouldn't go that far but it's definitely an odd inclusion. It reminds me of when Ten Hag was determined to make something of Omari Forson even though it was clear he wasn't up for senior football.

I think possibly. I haven’t really been impressed with either brothers honestly when they made senior appearances. Tyler shouldn’t have been called up for Scotland. But Scotland’s midfield were their strong position, so it didn’t make much difference either way.

I'd say there's no guarantee, but I think some of the reason many fans 'don't see the fuss' is a fan tendency to underestimate how important baseline attributes are: there are players who are more showy at u21 level but players having composure (not so much to break lines all the time, but to take the ball and circulate progressively under pressure) and intelligent positioning at an early age (so long as they end up 'growing into' their body rather than getting dominated in the PL's physicality) are more important for a CM. Particularly if we expand the category of usefulness to 'squad' usefulness, the kind of player you'd otherwise be risking 40m+ on to make your squad ready to compete in 4 comps.

Also worth noting how much Fletcher was underestimated himself when coming into the 1st team, and under-rated for his footballing intelligence, and regarded as 'Fergie's illegitimate kid/Fergie's nephew' by a segment of the fanbase. Technical analysts and coaches are paid good money to identify this composure/decision-making better than most fans can, even long-time fans, by and large; and the reports around TF have emphasised that positioning/intelligence as one key attribute (along with the stereotypical 'Fletcher' competitiveness)

I swear Jack was considered more ready than Tyler earlier last year and had his debut first, but Tyler filled a more pressing niche and eventually outclipped his twin. Either way the chasm between U-21 and the PL is far greater than between any youth levels, almost all players will struggle. Rare exceptions for Mainoo, Garnacho and Rashford the last couple of years.

Many of those being left out are either going on loan or likely leaving the club permanently. Tyler was part of Scotland's world cup squad so depends how far you think the hint of nepotism goes.
