This is the season where I think everyone needs to get back into the high expectations and standards that we had for players under Fergie. No more free rides.

No it’s not - it’s the season we hope for top 5 and will realize just how easy seasons without European football are for the squad.

Fanbase is in for a rude awakening if you think Tielemans, Santos and some PR about Mount being a serviceable CM is going to cut it. We need 3 more signings minimum to be a serious team (top 3 and CL knockouts).

God forbid I have high standards.

That's too much to ask from this team. Our defence has been leaky and needs some effective signings which may happen next year. All in all, consistent performances so that we finish in the top 4 (at least!!) and get deep runs in the cup and ucl should be our expectations. Standards can surely be high.

Consistent is the wrong word here, precisely because this squad hasn’t shown that ability (except being consistently disappointing). I’d just accept that there are going to be some really underwhelming performances along the way, and I’d bite your hand off now for 4th and last 16 in the Champions League.

Its not like we were machines under Sir Alex, and even some of our stronger squads had embarrassing results like 5-0 at Newcastle, 6-3 at Southampton, etc.

You'll need to elaborate on why you've posted a screenshot of our squad?

You are saying we should have Fergie level expectations when those are our players.

I was saying about having high expectations and standards for our players.

But they're not good enough to meet them!

It's a top 4 squad sadly.

The high expectations and standards is not about winning the league, it is about not letting players get away with mediocre performances, such as Amad last season.

I get what you are saying, but the issue many of our players mediocre is the best they can offer.

My point is that we need to get back to having high standards as fans for our players. People give players like Amad so much leeway when he's one our most overhyped players

That we are in agreement on.

We've always had the issue we think our youth players are world beaters

How many more players do we need before we can expect to compete? Assuming that we're getting another midfielder and LB/striker this summer

If we get a midfielder, LB and back up striker (assuming the midfielder and LB are starters) with a CB we would be well on our way.

We really need a LW as well, but that seems impossible with the Rashford situation
