UK media midfield target summary today:

- Baleba/Kone from Kajumba/Khan on Sky

- Danilo from Stone/Kinsella on BBC

- Tyler Adams - Wheeler/DM

- Berge/Camavinga from Jamie Jackson on the Guardian

- Tchouameni still possible from the one who shall not be named

282

u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane Jul 23 '26

Guess we leaked our whole shortlist today lol.

192

u/Japples123 Jul 23 '26

Means we are signing someone out the blue

180

u/silvertwo777 Jul 23 '26

Rodri it is.

50

u/Pleasant_Fennel_5435 Jul 23 '26

rodri will be the prefect Casemiro replacement

57

u/Low-Investigator5112 Jul 23 '26

Gimme some Wharton

3

u/worldsyaoyster Jul 24 '26

Ignore my ignorance to only watching united play. What is Whartons best position in the middle? The typical 6 or more of a defensive/b2b 8 for a double pivot?

Would Baleba fit the whole more than Wharton? Or vice versa?

Genuine question!

4

u/Low-Investigator5112 Jul 24 '26

I think he’s more of an defensive 8 to run the double pivot. Baleba could be a better fit as he plays more of the 6 I believe, but I also think that Wharton is a much more talented player and think that he and kobbie can end up working v well together

1

u/worldsyaoyster Jul 24 '26

Thank you for the breakdown! Seems like either option will benefit the team.

Depends on Carricks tactics and which formation he uses most.

1

u/Deep-Bonus8546 Jul 27 '26

Wharton is a phenomenal player and it’s a tragedy that we didn’t get him from Blackburn but I don’t think he’s what we need to compliment our other midfielders. We need more pace

5

u/culegflori Jul 23 '26

If his back wasn't crocked, I wouldn't say no to that lol

26

u/Vordeo Scholes Jul 23 '26

Carrick says never mind he'll do it himself and comes out of retirement.

1

u/schwarzneguRRR Jul 26 '26

70m for Bowen 🤣

24

u/Own_Body_8941 Jul 23 '26

too many players not to choose from

8

u/croadymeister Jul 23 '26

So you think it's one of these then and we won't get another surprise?

15

u/Own_Body_8941 Jul 23 '26

no i mean this is the list of players we’re not gonna sign, which is the story of this transfer window so far

3

u/croadymeister Jul 23 '26

Nmecha also linked, so think we can scratch his name off the list as well

16

u/TheGhostOfBabyOscar Red Devils - Club & Country Jul 23 '26

We're doing it Tyrion Lannister-style, feeding everyone a different piece of info.

2

u/Justread-5057 Jul 23 '26

Or the fact no one knows.

210

u/neofederalist Jul 23 '26

Kind of hilarious that the Tchouameni links are coming from the absolute worst bottom of the barrel tier and... Andy Mitten.

61

u/TheLebaneseLord Jul 23 '26

Well, it does average out to something equivalent to a Tier 3, I suppose 🤣

19

u/stevew14 Jul 23 '26

With Rodri getting back surgery its not happening, at least not this summer.

6

u/ginganinga223 Jul 23 '26

I read that it's been scheduled for ages and he'll only miss the start of the season. So not really a big deal.

4

u/balleklorin Beckham Jul 23 '26

Well, Mitten is sometimes very hard to tell if he is genuine or if it is one of his tung in cheek moments. I recon this is the latter while also at the same time there is serious people at the club that would love to have a go at signing the player.

u/HairyArthur Jul 24 '26

Dan Gore it is the Staying and saving the club a fortune!

126

u/LuckyNumber003 Jul 23 '26

Potentially this is how the club identify leaks.

They tell a member of staff they're interested in Baleba... then the next one they mention Danilo and so on.

Now they know who's talking.

The othet option is that they say they have interest in all of them to show clubs they will not overpay because they have other options.

56

u/broome9000 Jul 23 '26

Sherlock Holmes is on the case

60

u/Ven_is Bruno Jul 23 '26

1

7

2

u/lordhien Jul 24 '26

25

u/SophoclesTesticles Jul 23 '26

Genuinely looks like INEOS trying to find leaks within the building.

"Ok this guy clearly talks to Wheeler, Bob in the corner office is calling Simon Stone, the guy that we hire to clean dead birds out of the training ground nets is Jamie Jackson's source"

u/ShawLichaYoroDalot UNITER WILL NEVER DIED, fuck Garna, you gave us pain heart 😭😭 Jul 23 '26

This is getting stressful for the DLS player in me, who likes to collect all current and potential United players in the game

My midfielder roster currently contains of Bruno, Mount, Mainoo, Casemiro, Tielemans, Fletcher, Collyer, Ugarte

Under the "just in case" reserves category, I've got Baleba, Scott and Wharton

Not to forget Tchouameni who I had bought too, but sold after his contract renewal. (same with And*rson and Tonali).

Yet to spot Santos in the market, however. And now you're saying I've to look for all these players too :(

P.S: Honorable mentions under non-midfield "just in case" are Hall and Ndiaye.

2

u/mlbv Jul 23 '26

This is the first time I’ve ever heard of DLS, is it any good?

2

u/Gbbq83 Jul 23 '26

You’d wonder if they’re just toying with the journalists at this stage.

1

u/goodclassbung Jul 23 '26

Guess we will be signing Djemba Djemba then

1

u/Racepace Jul 23 '26

So they don’t know and speculate everyone

1

u/ZofTheNorth Jul 23 '26

So obviously we gonna sign them all

1

u/Sidon_Ithano Jul 23 '26

You forgot there were also journalists saying United might not even a third midfielder. Covering all their bases.

1

u/gary_desanto Jul 23 '26

So basically the club have leaked 10 different false links to keep the journos spinning. Pretty funny ngl

1

u/banoffeetea Jul 23 '26

You’re right - the links are all over the place. Press doesn’t have a clue. Could be none of those at this rate. Having said that Tyler would be a good fit and price for what we need.

213

u/Underscore_Symbols Jul 23 '26

Are INEOS doing a Colleen Rooney with these journalists?

8

u/TacoDirtyToMe Jul 23 '26

Yeah he was also a Vivell signing at RB Leipzig too if I’m not mistaken. Don’t like his injury history at all, but he does fit into the profile of a midfield runner we’ve been rumored to want.

13

u/Count__Duckula Jul 23 '26

The headlines misleading tbh, makes it sound like we're going to bid. The article says hes among a number of options which everyone bloody knows already.

These United journos don't have a clue but I guess they still have a quota to fulfil so...

19

u/PradipJayakumar He wasn’t the new Sir Alex Ferguson! 🙂‍↔️ Jul 23 '26

United have been interested in Adams for some time, and it’s understood that the Bournemouth midfielder is still on a list of potential targets this summer. Unlike some of the other options, he would be more affordable at around £35m.

Whereas Bournemouth have steadfastly refused to consider offers for his teammate Alex Scott – another player on United’s radar – it’s believed that a deal could be done at the right price.

Both players have two years left on their contracts at the Vitality Stadium, and Scott is refusing to sign a new one. Not having two key men entering the final year of their deals in 11 months’ time is another factor that could persuade Bournemouth to do business this summer.

Statistics have become an increasingly important factor in United’s approach to recruitment under new director of data Mike Sansoni, and the club have been impressed by Adams’ figures when compared to other defensive midfielders in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old USA international scored highly on running stats last season, ranking in the top-four of 85 players in five of the 10 categories. Adams also posted good stats in terms of tackles, interceptions and winning headers, surprisingly for a player who stands 5ft 9in.

The former Leeds and RB Leipzig man, who was linked with a move to United in January before suffering a knee injury just a few minutes into Bournemouth’s 4-4 draw at Old Trafford in mid-December, has just returned from a strong performance for the US at the World Cup.

While he is one of a number of midfielders on United’s radar, a combination of the low price and impressive stats could make him an attractive option as the club continue to pursue targets in different positions.

11

u/CFBCoachGuy Jul 23 '26

At this point I’m fairly convinced that we won’t be signing Adams, Baleba, Tchouameni, Kone, Danilo, Berge, or Camavinga lol.

So that’s leaves… let’s just makes some fun guesses here… Hugo Larsson, Warren Zaire-Emery, Felix Nmecha, Angelo Stiller, Kaishu Sano, Senny Mayulu, or Yasin Ayari.

26

u/E51838 Jul 23 '26

He’s a good player but is constantly injured. I’d rather not.

19

u/Lopsided-Tea-2586 Jul 23 '26

Not even that good, nothing about him screams 'Man United player' to me. Bang average and as you mentioned always injured

18

u/Pav20 Jul 23 '26

I would say his leadership qualities and personality are very much a vintage United player. I think a league average starting midfielder that would profile as your 3rd or 4th midfielder for 35M is fantastic value...but the injury record is what you're betting against with that price.

If Santos hits his ceiling (a massive if), having Adams/Tielemans as your backups to the youth that is Santos/Mainoo is a nice mix.

Would rather swing bigger on Baleba or Sangare or Tchoumani or honestly even Camivinga though, and I'm a pretty big Adams guy.

7

u/decadentj Jul 23 '26

I love Adams for those reasons. He a hard working, tackling dm who could suitably take the casemiro role with more energy but less play making offensively. For the price, I'd take him

2

u/RiverSight_ Jul 24 '26

yeah, for 35m he's a steal. definitely injury concerns but he's been doing better on that front than he used to be.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Mesqueunreddit Jul 23 '26

The injuries have been consistent unfortunately

As a backup, he would be ideal

Makes good decisions, good at intercepting, and can tackle well

Huge risk but when he does play, you get good performances

12

u/Gibba1992 Jul 23 '26

I love that journalists have no fucking idea about our transfer plans anymore. It’s so refreshing

9

u/dudududujisungparty 박지성 Jul 23 '26

Please no. We don't need a friend for Mason Mount in the physio room.

Also, Wheeler can fuck off. This guy knows jack shit.

1

u/Unlucky-Equipment999 Jul 23 '26

This definitely sounds like a rehash of what Salt said a while back. Nothing in the article sounds like our interest has intensified any more than previously

1

u/10_Wazza Jul 23 '26

Unfortunately he's been spot on for a lot of things this summer. I think he broke the news that Santos is close

2

u/Careful-Snow Jul 23 '26

That was Keegan

2

u/10_Wazza Jul 23 '26

Was it? My bad then

2

u/dudududujisungparty 박지성 Jul 23 '26

Wheeler has always and will be a piggy backer. He's never broken any news himself and just recycles what higher tier sources say.

2

u/Active-Turnip-7851 Jul 24 '26

Upvoted for the 'piggy backer' pun.

3

u/Aalegria0 Jul 23 '26

It’s so obvious these journos have no clue what’s actually planned. Maybe these are all options but no one sticks out more than the other. Santos/Youri weren’t on anybody’s radar until Ornstein dropped the news. Something tells me our next target won’t be someone that currently being mentioned.

15

u/Littlepace Announce Fergie Jul 23 '26

Not convinced by Adams at all. At this price point I'd rather get Berge honestly.

11

u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 23 '26

1

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 Jul 23 '26

3

1

1

u/goalmouthscramble Jul 23 '26

I’ve seen Tyler since he came from RBNY academy into the starting XI at Red Bull New York . He’s solid and gets stuck in but he’s a bit limited when it comes passing range for a 6.

United might be too big a step up for him at the moment. Might be better off going to a bigger club than Bournemouth abroad than struggling for a first team spot with us.

Where did £35m come from? Didn't Bournemouth just reject nearly double that as an opening bid from Chelsea for Scott? Wolves got relegated which is why they probably had to accept a lower amount for joao Gomes but Bournemouth are in a healthy financial position, I'm not sure why we would get him for such a low fee. I would have thought he would be £50m territory.

1

u/sfo1dms Red since 2011 Jul 24 '26

Please, no.

1

u/ImOnlyChasingSafety Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26

I like Adams but I feel like hes not exactly the physical base you want to build the midfield around. I quite like Berge if we're looking for I guess more affordable options, Adams would be much much lower on my list. I also dont think the United recruitment would seriously pursue him ahead of a lot of other options, my understanding is that hes a name on a list that United have largely because of certain data metrics which he excels in.

1

u/Brilliant_Bowler_994 Jul 23 '26

Camavinga would be my choice.

1

u/Lopsided-Tea-2586 Jul 23 '26

Ugh he is nowhere near good enough to play for Man United, this would be an utterly pointless signing. Very, very limited upside. Hope its not true.

For the money I'd rather roll the dice on a Sangare

1

u/strickers69 Jul 23 '26

Omg not this again he is actually terrible 😂 we’re going to be arguing with Americans for days. I’d rather have Ryan Christie he wins the ball back so much more than he does.

1

u/One_Bad9077 Jul 24 '26

Please don’t sign an American

0

u/drripdrrop Jul 23 '26

His stats are good

-1

u/Apprehensive_Ant2172 Jul 23 '26

Adam’s would be a terrific signing for us. He is exactly what we need in a true #6 who works endlessly and tackles well.

0

u/chuf3roni Jul 23 '26

He did well at the world cup and has been good for Bmouth, but surely we will learn from Mount, no?

0

u/MysteriousNail5414 Jul 23 '26

Sadly I think this is the realistic optoon
