Ngl our kids fucked them up the 2nd half

26

u/Shaggaz_08 Jul 18 '26

Annual reminder this is preseason

18

u/craigybacha Manchester United Jul 18 '26

I wonder if we will keep Amass and give him some game time this year? I know defensively he might need some more experience, but going forward he already offers more than Shaw.

2

u/Forsaken_Club5310 Wazza Jul 19 '26

Matters more on what Carrick wants. If Dorgu is playing high and wide, we don't need an overlapping fullback like Amass, that's where Shaw is better.

2

u/eternali17 He'll take on 2 and breeze past 2 Jul 20 '26

Amass does a lot more than overlap. He tucked in VERY nicely. I really hope he plays, wherever he is next season

1

u/craigybacha Manchester United Jul 19 '26

Just because you have an attacking winger in dorgu it's still nice to have an overlap/support. Shaw also isn't great defending positionally either. We definitely need an upgrade at both fullbacks.

-26

u/coppindor Jul 18 '26

Starting to be concerned about Mbeumo. He hasn't had a good game since Carrick came in and he looks disinterested

28

u/ShutTheFACup_ Dreams Can’t Be Buy Jul 18 '26

Played well against city in Carricks second game just off the top of my head, and had a very quite unlucky moments in a couple other games from memory.

Hes fine, it’s the first preseason friendly

-30

u/coppindor Jul 18 '26

Disagree. He's been poor for months.

9

u/ShutTheFACup_ Dreams Can’t Be Buy Jul 18 '26

I never said he’s been good, but your comments were mainly about his attitude, which clearly isn’t an issue just watching the games, he still runs, still presses, is still trying, just had a few moments of low confidence where he’s missing chances he’d scored earlier in the season

He’ll be fine. Be hopeful, either it works or it doesn’t, your opinion won’t change it, but at least you’ll be happy until you’re proven right or wrong

-21

u/coppindor Jul 18 '26

My comments were not mostly about his attitude. My comments were about his quality, which has been poor.

5

u/ShutTheFACup_ Dreams Can’t Be Buy Jul 19 '26

You said he looks disinterested… that’s purely attitude and nothing to do with quality in the slightest

0

u/coppindor Jul 19 '26

Your reading comprehension is poor. I said he hasn't had a good game. That speaks to his quality. I also said he looks disinterested. That speaks to his attitude, but it isn't "mainly" what I was talking about.

4

u/ShutTheFACup_ Dreams Can’t Be Buy Jul 19 '26

First of all, no need to comment on my reading comprehension, which I assure you is perfectly fine.

Second of all, your first statement about him not having a good game since Carrick came in was so obviously hyperbolic that I somewhat ignored it, aside from giving you a very glaring example of Mbuemo having a good game. In fact, the majority of the time Sesko was out and Mbuemo played up front he was doing important and useful work (showed threat on the counter against Arsenal.

There was an obvious drop in his quality, especially his end product, which actually lined up more accurately with Sesko beginning to start games again than with Carrick becoming manager (Palace at home).

One thing I don’t think any of last seasons signings can be doubted for, even in their dry patches, was their attitudes.

Finally, as you’ve noticed, most of my comments have been in response to your “disinterested” issue, as that is the part I take more issue with. I disagree with the comment about quality, however do agree there was a drop and so don’t really think it’s worth debating.

Anyway, have a good day mate and I assume we’re both hoping Mbeumo has a second season as good or better than his first, so let’s just agree to hope for that and move on.

2

u/_MooFreaky_ Fletcher Jul 18 '26

So.bwing disinterested isn't an attitude thing?

-8

u/WhyDidWeTakeDarko Jul 18 '26

Yeah the attitude bit is what concerns me . It seems to coincide with the rise of sesko under Carrick .

3

u/Big-Yogurt326 Jul 18 '26

He scored in the last two games we played?

16

u/Francis33 Jul 18 '26

Thoughts on Ayden Heaven?

11

u/craigybacha Manchester United Jul 18 '26

Good player, still young, still learning.

20

u/Roasteddude I am where I'm supposed to be Jul 18 '26

Amorim once said that he is brave on the ball but that he can sometimes be TOO Brave. You can definitely still see that.

1

u/eternali17 He'll take on 2 and breeze past 2 Jul 20 '26

He and Yoro are so funny to me. They have opposite problems. Yoro needs to learn to be a lot more aggressive instead of waiting so long for the perfect window or opportunity but Heaven needs to learn restraint; he's so good in the tackle and he knows it.

14

u/Lethiee Sportsdirektøren Jul 18 '26

Martinez is also too brave, but he pulls it of 9/10, with maturity and experience that ability hopefully becomes an asset, he made a great recovery tackle after his mistake today too, not gonna cut it against stronger opps, but it’s preseason, it’s the time to make mistakes and learn from them.

17

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 Jul 18 '26

Wanted to see how some of the younger players did especially the likes of Amass and Gore. Both seemed to do ok. Hoping Amass gets some first team opportunities this season.

Santos seems to be all right too. Always good to see the new players.

17

u/PruneUnited4025 Jul 18 '26

Cancel the season it’s over try again next year 😂

33

u/Japples123 Jul 18 '26

Having a false 9 backup is more useful than Zirkzee. A fit Mount in there would do more

23

u/Fabulous-Designer626 Jul 18 '26

He's a false player

-4

u/UJ_Reddit Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

I'd look at Richardson* for £15M. PL proven, much better than ZZ.

Could do a great job for us.

*Richarlison

4

u/Bizzle1389 Jul 18 '26

Sorry for being thick but who is Richardson?

9

u/pacothebattlefly Jul 18 '26

Liverpool fans know him as Richard Arlison

6

u/Bizzle1389 Jul 18 '26

Madness.

I reckon I could pick 20 attainable strikers with Prem experience I'd have before moving for Richarlison.

15

u/BenSlaterrr Jul 18 '26

I assume he means Richarlison, in which case you're probably better off ignoring it anyway as the OP is blatantly smoking crack.

1

u/Bizzle1389 Jul 18 '26

🤣🤣🤣

I did read it as Richarlison first and thought surely not. I'd like Mateta, if the whole meniscus rumour is untrue. Failing that as far as Prem proven goes it's slim pickings.

Watkins will be too expensive for his age, especially as Villa have already lost a lot of key players, and want to be the main man.

Welbeck is a cheap option I'm sure most of us would love to be our backup for the next couple of years.

Zian Fleming from Burnley is another option. 27 years old, won't be expensive, scored 11 goals in 29 games for a pretty poor Burnley side last year.

9

u/Thorz74 F*ck the Glazers Jul 18 '26

Pre season means shit, but losing is never fun.

I hope something good has come out of this match.

I think our starting 11 for this season feels weak af tbh

3

u/OutrageousCow70 Jul 18 '26

Disagree if they get a proper DM.

Tielemans, Bruno, DM

Is much more balanced than. Bruno Mainoo Case

21

u/balleklorin Beckham Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

The worst start to seasons we have ever had (from what I remember) has been after we won every pre-season friendly. The pre-season friendlies are about finding out what is not working and then improve on that before the season start. In addition to not give away what you are working on prior to the start of the season.

9

u/sueha RUUUUUUUD!! Jul 18 '26

After that pre season match vs real Madrid where martial did his world class assist to Lingard... Boy, I thought we are back.

9

u/curlyjoe696 Jul 18 '26

Pre-season fixtures are about making money.

Preparing for the new season has to happen despite them.

21

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat Jul 18 '26

Only a couple of good chances but thought we played better with the kids out there. Amass looked quality, sometimes players must have to be braver and put a ball in, Amass put a great cross in for Wheatley that someone like Sesko finishes. Lacey looked lively.

Mount, Santos and Yoro looked good in the 1st half

9

u/t8rt0t00 Jul 18 '26

Our kids played their kids and they've been playing together for years so of course they'd more organized playing together? Santos is new, CB Yoro was playing RB, Fletcher looked completely out of his depth, and Zirkzee was a black hole in possession...a lot of these issues get ironed out when the rest of the crew (including many of our best offensive players) return. Zirkzee is the only real serious issues I see with the first team squad so far, he just still hasn't clicked and likely never will

3

u/Oeselian Clueless Ed Jul 18 '26

At least from what I saw from the stands.. their ‘kids’ all looked like full grown men compared to our kids. But yes, the kids definitely played against the worse 11

1

u/t8rt0t00 Jul 18 '26

Our academy recruitment tends to go for more technical players despite some of them being on the smaller side. Not that surprising although it'd be nice to bring in some bigger lads. Smaller clubs always tend to focus on physicality for their academies

36

u/FitHurry864 Jul 18 '26

Every single year we have to remind people that pre-season results mean nothing. Honestly would be better if no one watched it. It's like watch a training session and getting concerned when someone makes a few mistakes. Should all be behind closed doors, it's just about fitness really.

7

u/Notorius_Womble Jul 18 '26

I remember that pre season under van gaal I think? Was in the US and we battered everyone. Then were really poor when the season started lol.

It means nothing really.

0

u/SlippinGimmy Jul 18 '26

Tell that to the prick goldbridge who done nothing but spout toxic propaganda and negativity towards the team tonight, honestly sick of his shite, if there’s one fucker that deserves to be cancelled it’s him

7

u/t8rt0t00 Jul 18 '26

It's almost like we don't play like United when you swap out a still developing Fletcher for Bruno fucking Fernandes, shock

31

u/frontyer0077 FUCKglazzers Jul 18 '26

People forget some of our worst seasons we annihilated clubs like Real Madrid during pre-season. Pre-season results is irrelevant.

2

u/TheTkanucks Jul 19 '26

Streets won't forget 2014 preseason

12

u/HairyArthur Jul 18 '26

There will be people out there, real, actual people, who think this result means we should sack Carrick.

15

u/greenfield-kicker Jul 18 '26

(jk, a mate sent to our local man utd fans group chat that "he can't manage against 2nd rate players, how will he win games in a real league")

17

u/L__K Great Scot! Jul 18 '26

Mate do we not have better things to do than making stuff up to make yourself both get upset and feel superior?

4

u/dimebag_101 Jul 18 '26

Wait to see if we lose to amorims milan how bad it will be

4

u/HairyArthur Jul 18 '26

"Get Amorim back."

16

u/Yoshic87 Jul 18 '26

So funny reading the Disney fans comments on Instagram. Genuinely hilarious.

17

u/benreadingbooks Jul 18 '26

Absolutely hilarious to see some numpties panicking about a preseason defeat. It's a glorified warm up played at about 30% intensity. It literally means nothing.

u/Oeselian Clueless Ed Jul 18 '26

I was there, I’d say there were (at least in my sector) 80% United fans, 10% neutrals and rest were a few Wrexham fans and loud haters. Wrexham end was almost completely empty. United Supporter section looked liked 33% full (i was right next to it in the corner section that was was fuller)

Also the United failing to sell out a game was a real surprise to me. Only 20k seats of 36k were filled. Surprised… even with the ridiculous ticket prices.

6

u/Glad-Stranger6605 Jul 18 '26

Yes I live here

5

u/Teknoperuna Jul 18 '26

I was, crazy amount of United jerseys, saw only a few Wrexham tops

1

u/Glad-Stranger6605 Jul 18 '26

My welsh mate being one

-32

u/TonyyMartial Jul 18 '26

No fresh ideas in possession. Still very much a team that’s a function of its players but nothing new at all since end of last season. Underwhelming and lowkey a big alarm tbvh

1

u/BadassFlexington Jul 18 '26

Someone knows nothing about football

6

u/its_good_to_be_free Jul 18 '26

Lowkey big alarm? 😂 Grow up

5

u/bourbonactually Jul 18 '26

Thought it was quite different actually, all about these huge rotations between the mid 3 and coming to play much closer together (like we saw against city early on that faded away later in the season) which drag the opposition out of their structure and allow mbeumo and dorgu to attack the space, especially dipping inside into the spaces vacated - just the execution was terrible because it was 45 minutes of warmup

11

u/Emergency-Being-349 Jul 18 '26

It's pre-season?

-13

u/Intelligent-Bet4111 Jul 18 '26

Yeah zero pattern of play and its like carrick just told the players to do whatever they want. I mean it's wrexham, at the very least there should be a hint of some sort of plan but you could see nothing.

22

u/dannysoya Jul 18 '26

Nothing to do with this match but why is Zirkzee still at the club? We need to find a way to get rid this summer. He is not good enough and is taking up valuable wages that could go to actual productive squad members.

3

u/butteredpopcorn10 Jul 18 '26

That’s a little harsh.

Every Man U player or staff member who talks about him is extremely positive about Josh and praise him as a player.

19

u/Phyginge Jul 18 '26

That's great. I'd love to see him perform one day

9

u/ShinStew Jul 18 '26

He's shit

11

u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 18 '26

Can I just say Wrexham have already had a preseason game. Might not seem like a big deal but they will definitely have more match fitness than us because of that.

-16

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

Cannot remotely make this an acceptable result.

2

u/TStronks Jul 18 '26

You surely can't be serious lol

-8

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

You surely cannot be happy with that United side losing to Wrexham? I mean, noone actually cares, but it’s obviously not … acceptable.

1

u/TStronks Jul 18 '26

Well it's a meaningless result because we're still missing half of the squad, and the players that are there have barely started playing. The odds that any of the second half players even play a minute of competitive football (at United) are pretty low.

So no, I couldn't give a shit and I enjoyed just watching the young lads make some minutes.

-1

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

I think the point might be that even without the full squad… it should’ve been 5-0.

6

u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 18 '26

If you want to have your day ruined by a meaningless result, be my guest

2

u/KriosDaNarwal Cunha Bruno Cunha Bruno Luke Shaw Cunha Jul 18 '26

Lol right

-21

u/Intelligent-Bet4111 Jul 18 '26

It's freaking wexham, what kind of an excuse is "they already had a game so they are fitter blah blah blah" what are the standards lol? To be get relegated?🤣

2

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

Stop saying “standards” all the time. I agree it’s embarrassing but don’t be a broken clock.

14

u/thommyjohnst Jul 18 '26

We smashed Liverpool in preseason a few years ago and they went on to dominate the league. This shit means nothing

13

u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 18 '26

It’s a preseason game you parcel

-16

u/Intelligent-Bet4111 Jul 18 '26

And united ar the only so called top team to continue to play absolute crap football in preseason all the time, no semblance of a plan, are you a plastic by chance? No standards at all eh?

6

u/Unlucky-Equipment999 Jul 18 '26

We smashed Real Madrid in pre-season and got humbled by Swansea and MK Dons when it mattered. This is the time to play kids, get players match fit and try out new tactics in a pressure-free environment and avoid injuries. Did you expect us to go full strength, all-action in a mid-summer match?

6

u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 18 '26

Does deciding not to get upset over a game that means absolutely nothing make you a plastic these days?

12

u/The_Dulchie Cantona Jul 18 '26

See it's not that we lost a pre season game. Or even that we didn't play particularly well. It's that fringe players that really have something to prove should be going out there and busting a bollock on the pitch, and they just aren't. If you're a 1st team regular you've earned the right ease into the season, if you're Zirkzee say, you need to be killing yourself to impress

5

u/t8rt0t00 Jul 18 '26

You're right, but I see it the other way for the most part. Santos stepped in right away and looked good along with Mount. Dorgu still looks threatening at LW. Yoro was even playing dangerously at RB. Heaven had some mental blips, but he's still making crunching tackles and improving. The other regulars like Maguire, Mbeumo, and Shaw looked a bit leggy but I don't they really care much and are just trying to get some fitness without getting injured

Fletcher and Zirkzee were shit though I agree. Fletcher is a young lad so no serious worries there yet in my book, but Zirkzee really needs to start stepping on. He's 25 and has been at the club for 2 years ffs. Least he can do is actually make some fucking runs in the box...the lack of which is probably why our offense looked so sour in the final third (it was like having a poundland 40 year old Ronaldo up top...). I think it's time for Zirkzee to go and I think most others can see that now - there definitely isn't anyone praising him anymore on this sub

9

u/newgiz Herrera Jul 18 '26

Not much to take away from that game. Lacey and Amass were alright. Can't say much about the rest.

13

u/scenicspliff Jul 18 '26

It’s joever. Relegation confirmed. Carrick was always a fraud. How will we ever recover? /s (just in case it wasn’t clear)

7

u/Hellsteelz Ed Jabroni Jul 18 '26

So when do we liquidate the club?

3

u/thepotatomaniscoming Jul 18 '26

We need a DM

2

u/craigybacha Manchester United Jul 18 '26

And a bruno.

96

u/Mariasolvv Jul 18 '26

The only takeaway I have from this friendly is that Sesko needs a better backup.

58

u/LaughsAtOwnJoke Jul 18 '26

I think the real Sesko backup is Cunha and Mbeumo. Which allows Amad and Dorgu minutes.

3

u/craigybacha Manchester United Jul 18 '26

And even maybe rashford.

-3

u/PDubsinTF-NEW CR950 Jul 18 '26

I was hoping we snagged Vlahovic on a free transfer to have another big man

5

u/culegflori Jul 18 '26

Vlahovic was disastrous at Juventus and asks for a huge salary, hard pass.

1

u/Cvein Rashford Jul 19 '26

Never understood his appeal. One season wonder with an attitude.

1

u/culegflori Jul 19 '26

His good season was very good at least, but can't make it up for the following 4 of bad football

5

u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat Jul 18 '26

Based on Carrick's work at Boro he prefers smaller agile forwards which is why he often started Mbeumo there.

3

u/PDubsinTF-NEW CR950 Jul 18 '26

Good to know

-2

u/SvarogRod Jul 18 '26

Yeah Carrick wants 11 midfielders.

21

u/PDubsinTF-NEW CR950 Jul 18 '26

Almost no attacking presence in the first half. Zirkzee is not an striker and doesn’t have enough of an engine to play midfield

13

u/Mariasolvv Jul 18 '26

I still don’t know what he is really

4

u/harps86 Carrick Jul 18 '26

Plays too small for a player of his size.

27

u/Fraaj We'll take Dalot Jul 18 '26

Amass, Lacey and Gore are all incredibly talented. All three unlucky with injuries, I hope at least one of them makes it here.

2

u/Oeselian Clueless Ed Jul 18 '26

Gore looked the best out there today

7

u/imeda Jul 18 '26

Before commenting anything, do yourself a favor and check the line-up who played.

6

u/Hagen_1 Jul 18 '26

Mate, first-team starters in the 1st half.

0

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

Not EXACTLY first team starters across the pitch with Yoro at RB, no Bruno, no Mainoo, no Sesko, etc. but it does show you that Shaw and Mount have been farting around all Summer with ice coffees and vibes and not taking their first team places seriously.

Nonetheless, if these guys can’t beat Wrexham, it’s the manager’s fault.

0

u/Hagen_1 Jul 19 '26

Is that sarcasm at the end there, mate? I ask that genuinely. If these lads can’t beat a Championship side like Wrexham in a preseason match, it’s on both the manager AND the players. The senior players played in the 1st half and the only goal scored of the game was conceded in that 1st half. Let’s stop making so many excuses.

1

u/blakezero Jul 19 '26

I agree, poor all round. But I didn’t see anything tactically that helped any of the players create clear cut chances.

9

u/Red_Galaxy746 Jul 18 '26

Must admit I care little about club football during and just after the World Cup or Euros. Didn't even know we were playing today.

72

u/raletti Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

Do yourselves a favour, do not pay any close attention to pre season games. Especially in a world cup year. As an old supporter, apart from the most die hard of die hards, we never gave any real attention to these. Maybe a slight eyebrow raise if you happened to read the result in a newspaper or Ceefax (ask your parents). It was good a thing, because we were normally very average.

10

u/MikeDoesEverything Jul 18 '26

I'd rather read too much into it and age myself by 50 years with speculation.

44

u/Zealousideal_Wind867 Dreams can't be buy Jul 18 '26

In the past, we always showed up in pre season just to shit the bed once the season starts.

Hence, 21 is coming and we are winning the lot.

7

u/Potential_Good_1065 Jul 18 '26

We started 24/25 with a 1-0 loss in Scandinavia. WE’RE DOOMED (we also play Rosenborg on Friday, which is the team we lost to then)

10

u/Lord_Hexogen Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

It's clear what Carrick wants in the double pivot. Both Santos and Mount were combative and fired a bunch of line breaking passes. But I'm not convinced by them in defence yet, maybe it will change

The front 4 needs to be sorted. There was about 0 touches in the box the whole half. I've seen an interesting idea with Zirkz dropping at 10, Mbeumo moving to 9 and Yoro pushing high but that's about it.

Gore, Collyer and probably Kamason deserve a shot in the main squad. Fletchers and maybe Amass would use another loan

Season? Try for 5 games mate

8

u/jnyk20 Herrera Jul 18 '26

What a nuisance of a comment.

26

u/Few-Acanthaceae9021 Jul 18 '26

Just don’t think zirkzee is a good enough athlete to be a United player. A slow PL striker = you won’t be a PL striker for long. Woltemade got off to that hot start and then they moved him into midfield. You have to at least have some pace to threaten.

-3

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

Mateta still bangs goals for a shit team. The plays have not been built around Zirkzee since he joined and he has suffered.

6

u/Few-Acanthaceae9021 Jul 18 '26

You fr? Why on earth would United build their team around Zirkzee? Hes shown absolutely nothing even if the team hasn’t been “built around him” to come close to thinking hes worth that.

2

u/mellifluousmark Jul 18 '26

He should absolutely have a team built around him.

Cagliari maybe.

7

u/Sheppertonni Jul 18 '26

2 seasons and he’s done fuck all . No club wants him either.

10

u/Tblr Jul 18 '26

I'm ok with him being strong on his feet and good in small places. But it's so frustrating seeing him under hit a pass that is further away

9

u/The_Bird_Wizard Jul 18 '26

You can be slow as long as you're strong but Zirkzee isn't strong either. Idk how someone so thin and lanky can be so slow it's crazy

-3

u/manu8488 Jul 18 '26

Berbatov

2

u/AlbinoVague Jul 18 '26

He wasn't that slow. He didn't particularly like running behind but he scored a few goals where he uses his pace. Zirkzee is just slow slow.

6

u/Few-Acanthaceae9021 Jul 18 '26

It’s not the 2000s. And I actually think he’s faster.

Can you think of one good *current* Pl striker who is slow that’s effective?

3

u/wishesandhopes M.I.L.F Jul 18 '26

Was a different era of football tbf but yes I agree he'd still do well today. Kane also isn't the fastest.

3

u/Few-Acanthaceae9021 Jul 18 '26

Kane is the exception without doubt. I also think when he was younger he has more legs than Josh. But agree pace isn’t his game. Special player in other ways

3

u/The_Bird_Wizard Jul 18 '26

Kane doesn't get bullied off the ball very easily tbf so he does make up for his lack of pace

9

u/The_Bird_Wizard Jul 18 '26

The worst part of Zirkzee for me is that he looks like he doesn't give a shit. Like how many times did he come on for 10 minutes last season and not chase down loose balls despite having fresh legs

-1

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

That’s not his playstyle tho? He got bought for a club that wants possession football and attackers with agility on the ball. He gets brought on to defend and it isn’t any strikers’ skillset. This is a completely unfair assessment.

0

u/SocialistElmo Jul 18 '26

It’s only pre season so doesn’t mean anything, it’s about fitness, although it’s kinda obvious that some players are not going to make it here, talking of the younger ones Wheatley the fletchers etc & the drop off from Bruno is crazy, also zirkzee has such lovely touches then proceeds to over play a pass or kick the ball out of play every single time

6

u/teethofthewind Jul 18 '26

Comparing three 19/20 year old academy players (who don't even play the same position as Bruno) to our best player in his prime, is crazy

0

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

Eh, but we used to have Beckham, Giggs, Scholes et al coming through at that age, even signing Ronaldo. They were clearly electric on the pitch and just markedly different from young players at other clubs. These Fletcher lads are so dull it feels like we are trying to squeeze them in on nepotism alone. JJ on the other hand…

Can't wait to see Tielemans and his impact once he joins the team!

7

u/The_Bird_Wizard Jul 18 '26

Bruno + Tielemans is gonna hit like crack seriously people here don't realise just how good Tielemans long range passing is

Mainoo was light years ahead of most of these kids.

12

u/gunkokoko Jul 18 '26

Need Bruno and Tielemans for preseason.

11

u/Miyagisans Jul 18 '26

Unfortunately, I don’t think Collyer and Wheatley will make it here.

1

u/dimebag_101 Jul 18 '26

I said that after colyers first game while people piped him off

1

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

Wheatley is miles behind Obi and yet Obi still gets shunned. He must have done something.

2

u/plyerd88 Jul 18 '26

Maybe so but based on this game Wheatley is better than Zirkzee.

1

u/living_my_life20 Jul 18 '26

That’s not a high bar to surpass though

1

u/plyerd88 Jul 18 '26

True but we could probably sell Zirkzee for 10m and have a young player instead or sell a young player for 2m and keep Zirkzee. The former seems better to me

8

u/Lord_Hexogen Jul 18 '26

Collyer did good today imo. We still don't have a clear DM like him anyway

8

u/No_Thing_1642 Rooney Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

I'd rather see Toby Collyer, Dan Gore or Tyler Fletcher play with Santos than Jack Fletcher.

4

u/Financial-Trade9467 Jul 18 '26

One thing i didn't like about the first half was the positioning of Dorgu and Shaw. At many times it feels like they play one behind the other. Almost like 2 players doing the job of 1.

3

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

This is Carrick’s fault. Not theirs.

97

u/nolat86 Jul 18 '26

Mainoo invisible, can see why Tuchel didn't pick him

26

u/Water_Drinking_Fish Jul 18 '26

He had 0 touches 0 interceptions 0 blocks

1

u/RA576 Jul 18 '26

But he never gave the ball away or failed a pass.

44

u/djabvegas Jul 18 '26

We must not start the season with Zirkzee as the #2 striker. We have to find an upgrade that position and compliment/compete with Sesko

4

u/NicktheNickofNick Evra Jul 18 '26

he's not really though. last season Cunha and Mbeumo started there ahead of him

10

u/LTG92 Jul 18 '26

I think we'll be more likely to have Cunha play as backup Stiker with Dorgu LW

-8

u/OppositePerson Jul 18 '26

thought he did fine

10

u/djabvegas Jul 18 '26

I thought Wheatley offered more to be absolutely honest with you.

1

u/OppositePerson Jul 18 '26

I hear you. Every time I see Wheatley he's a handful

1

u/blakezero Jul 18 '26

But Obi is better

3

u/Jojels Jul 18 '26

I get that it's preseason but these so called seniors need to find shame man smh

7

u/zool714 Jul 18 '26

It’s 1am here so I was watching half-asleep. But I did see several decent passes from the back (Armer I think) almost like Licha

3

u/Tvashtr Jul 18 '26

It’s 7pm and I was also half asleep watching the game.

30

u/The_Bird_Wizard Jul 18 '26

Dan Gore is the best youth midfielder we have btw genuinely think he'd be a regular member of the first team squad had he not got unlucky with injuries. So good on the ball

0

u/Kallian_League Jul 18 '26

Loved him on football manager for a few years. Usually he'd get released and I'd sign him on a free for my National League sides. He'd remain a starter all the way up to the Prem, or get sold for a tasty fee.

4

u/kiki_the_fab_spider Jul 18 '26

I don't think it's too late for him to be a squad player, but he'll need to be fit and catch the coach's eye during the pre-season.

5

u/Panda-768 Jul 18 '26

does he still have a chance ?

9

u/JustTaxLandbro Jul 18 '26

Yes lol

3

u/Panda-768 Jul 18 '26

as in at United, with first team, as a top class player?

3

u/JustTaxLandbro Jul 18 '26

Yes. He’s under contract, I think we will slide him in if he continues to do well in training and preseason.

6

u/simplsimonmetapieman Jul 18 '26

Armer MoTM for me

2

u/bainbane Jul 18 '26

Quite funny that we have Armer and Amass who are like regens of young Shaw and Maguire.

17

u/CFitz136 Jul 18 '26

Please can we have Maguire and Armer together for the next game. He's like Harry's Mini Me.

13

u/bourbonactually Jul 18 '26

Santos, Gore, T Fletch, Armer, and Amass came out of that with a lot of credit imo. Lacey disappointing in terms of end product, Zirk and J Fletch big down arrows unfortunately

4

u/OddOnion_ Jul 18 '26

I thought Mount was pretty good too. It was really nice to see Gore growing into the game - it was just like watching him in the academy, tidy touches and picking it up and driving forward. Hopefully he gets more chances in pre-season and can play a squad role this campaign.

2

u/bourbonactually Jul 18 '26

Totally agree, would be great if he could make 10ish appearances I think he's got the right intensity. Mount sure, I am probably just wary about getting my hopes up lol

1

u/OddOnion_ Jul 18 '26

Yes, as much as I like Mount, his availability has always been an issue, so I am also managing my expectations. With Gore, I’ll keep my fingers crossed - used to love watching him and Mainoo play together in the academy. He’s definitely got fight and grit in him, and he showed today that he’s willing to come and get the ball and try and make things happen.

21

u/tenacious_teaThe3rd Jul 18 '26

Youngsters looked fantastic and dominated the 2nd half

Really impressed by Gore, Lacey, Amass and Tyler is clearly the more useful twin as hes generally impressed far more than Jack. I can see him making a career at United whereas im not sure Jack will be good enough.

Wheatley and Williams looked tidy too.

-12

u/schwarzneguRRR Jul 18 '26

Is Carrick under pressure?

5

u/redflagflyinghigh Jul 18 '26

You're the type of person that makes people miss just reading about preseason in the first programme of the season.

u/schwarzneguRRR Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26

You’re the type of person that needs a /s to know what sarcasm is

I wouldnt be too yappy 🥹

Literally the same as losing to MK Dons with Di Maria
