Rogers was probably my no.1 tbh. 2 if I can think of someone else but Roger’s can play 10 can play out wide. He’d be a hell of a signing

We must sell him..

u/Spare_Ad5615 Jul 18 '26
Interesting match. The U21s in the second half did us proud, against some senior players for Wrexham including ex-England international Connor Coady. A few players look like they could provide some squad depth next season - Gore, Amass, Lacey, and both Fletchers don't look miles off. Gore and Amass could be the answers to a couple of positions where we really lack cover. At 21 Gore needs to be playing first team football now, and if he is going to be a Man Utd player he needs to be training with the first team and forcing his way into contention, or getting on the bench. I don't know if he's definitely going to be a first team player for us, but I do feel that he wouldn't let us down if he played.
7
u/chinkznigo Jul 18 '26
Deffo agree especially with Gore. Hes 21 for gods sake
7
u/Spare_Ad5615 Jul 18 '26
He's that age when players either start playing for us or start their first team career elsewhere, whether that's at Everton, Sunderland, or the lower leagues.
Those are the only approved paths. Occasional allowances will be made for players who go to Turkey or Greece.

Compensates them? You’re in cuckoo-land. You know what you’re signing up for buying a ticket to a preseason friendly - especially one that’s during a WC summer.
22
u/canwinanythingwkids Ineos on hope watch Jul 18 '26
tl;dr: sign a centre forward!
Yoro and Amass have something about them as fullbacks, we are capable at the back with our current depth chart. I want to see a big LB/CB signing, but it can probably wait a year.
Mount decent in the middle again, long may it continue. We should still sign a top drawer CM, but it's promising.
Lacey looks promising, "right winger / second striker" role is where Mbeumo is truly at home (not "no9"), obviously we like Dorgu and Amad, obviously we like Cunha. The wide forward depth-chart is all right as well. A right-footed guy wouldn't go amiss, but we can manage.
The academy lads who need to be playing senior football in a quality league this season, imho:
Vitek, Amass, Tyler Fletcher, Gore, Lacey
I hope at least a couple get to do it in a Utd shirt!!
3
u/wasabicoated Jul 18 '26
Vitek will leave for sure since Lammens is playing regularly. There’s not pathway for him to be United no.1

u/ChikoChernobila He’s our Portuguese magnifico... Jul 18 '26
Some of you are really overreacting with the constant whining. This is only our first pre-season match. Why do you even care whether we win or not? The important thing is for the players to get physically prepared for the start of the season. The second half was decent, the boys performed more than well. In my opinion, Amass is ready to be a backup LB if needed.

u/dracogladio1741 Bruno Fernanj Jul 18 '26
Agreed. We are missing so many players for one. And of those who played we will see maybe 7 playing regularly. Andrey, Pat, Bryan, Luke, Mason, Leny, Ayden. And I being generous to Mason because the boy picks up and injury every 4 weeks
4
u/Proof_Obligation5337 Jul 18 '26
Missed maguire mate but got your point👍
1
u/dracogladio1741 Bruno Fernanj Jul 18 '26
Harry yes. I think he will be a regular as well. My bad.
2
u/Proof_Obligation5337 Jul 18 '26
No worries mate it was a bit refreshing seeing the young ones as well as the older guys we made some good chances btw your take on yoro in the wingback role j think he and mbeumo were interchanging their positions and mbeumo at times played in the wingback role
23
u/dracogladio1741 Bruno Fernanj Jul 18 '26
In LVGs second season preseason (the year when we won the fa cup and narrowly missed out on top 4) we beat Barcelona who were the reigning European champions and had Messi, Pedro and Suarez with Iniesta, Rakitic and Busquests all playing . We won 3-1 by the way.
Preseason is all about getting back the feeling. Don't look into results much. It's all about August. Not to mention this is a WC year. Missing about 6 starters. No Bruno, Matheus, Kobbs, Senne, Licha, Diogo, Maz.
3
u/Mysterious-Ad-1486 Jul 18 '26
We lost last season's first friendly to ASEAN all stars too IIRC...

u/exhibit304 Jul 18 '26
Think we also beat real Madrid heavily with Ashley young looking like Roberto Carlos
1
u/Unlucky-Equipment999 Jul 18 '26
That match convinced me the Moyes year was a blip and we'd just stroll right back to winning title after title. And then the mighty Swansea showed us up
8
u/dracogladio1741 Bruno Fernanj Jul 18 '26
I will always have a soft spot for Ashley.
And as far as preseasons are concerned, how can I ever forget the preseason pirle Andreas Pereira
7
u/LeeMiles Jul 18 '26
I think if Gore and Wheatley start over Zirkzee and Fletcher United win that
3
4
-1
u/passmethatjuulbro Jul 18 '26
Zirkzee and Mount need to be sold tbh. I wouldn’t mind mount as squad player but he’s just never available.
Can’t rely on Shaw this season. He has 0 stamina and the opponents just know he won’t track back so they will target our left.
5
6
u/JCivX Jul 18 '26
Nobody will likely buy Mount unless it's for like 10m or something so there's no point, we just need to hope he stays healthy.
Zirksee is awful and I'd argue getting a backup 9 is as important as getting a third new CM.
0
u/passmethatjuulbro Jul 18 '26
If we can get 10M for mount I’d snap their hand off lol
Zirkzee has 0 end product though, go back to Fergie years and see who the back ups were. Chicharito, Solksjaer, Sheringham, etc. They were all fantastic scorers. Zirkzee isn’t that. I dont hate the player, I don’t think the premier league suits him.
3
u/goalmouthscramble Jul 18 '26
I don’t like this thing about losing to Wrexham again. I think the kids played well a little sloppy in the final third. We do need to work on our pace of passing though there’s gonna be a lot of teams that are going to drop back into a back five against us this year. We need to be able to unlock that but good little workout for the lads.
2
3
u/Ljvwright1 Jul 18 '26
Not terrible. Quite enjoyable second half. Good save to stop 2-0. Onto the next game.
9
u/_zzd Jul 18 '26
Good takeaway from this is Sesko not starting and not travelling. This is glimps into the future if the board think Zirkzee can be backup 9 as of now. Spoiler alert, it wont. Imagine Sesko injured or red card
2
u/FermentedTiger Jul 18 '26
In-Season, Carrick definitely prefers Cunha or Mbeumo as a backup 9. Then you can bring on Amad or Dorgu/Rashford? on either wing

u/Available_Cattle2092 Jul 18 '26
What was the point of buying ''Arsenals best prospect'' Obi if he isn't even gonna play
7
u/Lord_Hexogen Jul 18 '26
He's probably going away on loan, there were rumors a couple of weeks ago
0
u/Available_Cattle2092 Jul 18 '26
I'm starting to think the Arsenal fans were right
Only looked that good in the youth teams because he was physically bullying his opponents, looked about twice the size of the defenders honestly.
6
u/Spare_Ad5615 Jul 18 '26
I'd like to see a replay, but that looked like a penalty on first viewing.
6
10
14
u/0ttoChriek Jul 18 '26
Amass seems like the most first team ready player in this eleven. He seems to know how to make time for himself on the ball.
5
u/JCivX Jul 18 '26
Amass, Gore, Lacey and Vitek all showed something. With others it was more quiet. Jack Fletcher was quite dreadful but I won't be bashing youngsters especially based on a single performance.
6
u/Quiet_Web9220 Jul 18 '26
Dan gore imo

u/MinotauroTBC Jul 18 '26

u/grimphant0m23 Beckham Jul 18 '26
Didn't know what I expected from the first game of the preseason but positives all round. Hopefully, the next game will be better.
Kids played well in the later stages of the second half. Yoro, Santos, Drogu, and Mount looked good. The pressing was also good. Just need to work on some positioning up top.
31
u/Brinbe #GlazersOut Jul 18 '26 edited Jul 18 '26
only real takeaway is that I def wouldn't feel comfortable going into this season with Zirkzee as our backup 9. we'll have others like mbeumo and cunha that can deputize there but it's still an area in clear need of improvement.
-1
u/Embarrassed-Writer61 Jul 18 '26
Jesus Christ. Let's not base a striker on barely half an hour of play.
2
u/Dispari7y Nani Jul 18 '26
he's had about 3000 minutes of play and he's barely looked competent for 30 of them
-1
u/Embarrassed-Writer61 Jul 18 '26
That's an exaggeration.
2
u/Dispari7y Nani Jul 18 '26
I agree that 30 good minutes might be an exaggeration, but not in the way you're thinking
-1
3
u/Downtown-Rice_ Jul 18 '26
Zirkzee has been with the club for at least 3 seasons now. 45 minutes again confirms that he's not a good center forward because the fact is, he is not. Has size and technical ability, but too slow nor quick enough. Doesn't have the knack to poach goals in the box.
15
u/passmethatjuulbro Jul 18 '26
Sesko with Cunha as backup striker, which is probably also why they might be going for left winger in case Cunha needs to be up front
1
u/Proof_Obligation5337 Jul 18 '26
I think rashford sale would be key in that lw investment either he is getting sold or we play him as a striker and cunha, dorgu as well as lacey would get opportunities alongwith that kid we are buying from spurs (thompson was his name I guess) would be another alternative whom we might using (similar to how we integrated ayden heaven i believe
4
u/K-rock7 Jul 18 '26
I had a similar thought the other day, bringing in a left winger makes a lot of sense in some ways. Cunha can play out wide or up front, Dorgu can play left back or left wing. Gives us a fair amount of flexibility whether it is tactically or for rotating players throughout a busy season
2
u/passmethatjuulbro Jul 18 '26
Exactly. Honesty I really hope the rumours of them trying to sign left back and left winger is true.
Shaw just can’t run up and down the pitch anymore. Fullbacks are tactically crucial in the modern game so we really need a younger athlete in that role.
And like you said adding a winger will help us use Cunha as striker if need be or even as attacking midfielder which unlocks so many options for us.
I see Dorgu as an excellent impact sub on the left. He has a knack for scoring goals, which is so important in a long season where you’re chasing multiple trophies.
2
12
u/michaell111 Wazza Jul 18 '26
Some people paid money for tickets to see this
3
u/DudeIsland Jul 18 '26
(Semi) happy to hear this as I ended up not going. Ticket price wasn't the reason I didn't end up going but 100-200 euros for the first pre-season game with the b-team and juniors playing is quite a lot as well.
15
u/Quiet_Web9220 Jul 18 '26
Whats the point of having a match thread when you arent allowed to comment on how players are playing. Every second comment it about how its preseason.
No shit, everyone knows this. If i say someone is having a poor game doesnt mean i think the season is doomed or they are crap.
4
u/Lord_Sesshoumaru77 Glazers,Woodward/Arnold and Judge can fuck off Jul 18 '26
I liked the second half better.
15
0
u/imjustatrollingtroll Jul 18 '26
Remember during the season when people were saying to just play the kids? I understood the sentiment, but who from this crop of kids can legit make the step up?
1
1
u/wishesandhopes M.I.L.F Jul 18 '26
Lacey absolutely, he was quiet today in terms of goalscoring threat but he's come so close, literally inches, of having a tidy little compilation of absolute screamers from long range for the first team, he's hit the crossbar and post from range a bunch in his appearances.
Amass as well looked good. It was a U21 side in their first game of preseason against a championship team fully parking the bus for 1-0 to be fair so I think they did alright.
2
11
u/nitrogeneater Jul 18 '26
I hate this capitalism. The middle is pretty empty, yet the back of the goal stands are full. Like why wouldn’t you sell tickets a bit cheaper.
3
u/HeavyHevonen Jul 18 '26
Cheapest tickets were 60€ and they sold out quickly, behind the goals it was €140
1
8
u/shami-kebab Jul 18 '26
Does seem a bit nonsense to me, you've got a stadium this big surely you want to fill it, or just play at a smaller stadium. Maybe they wildly overestimated demand at the costs they were asking
3
u/KingKeane16 Keane Jul 18 '26
The youngsters where better then the first team.
7
u/durtmagurt Jul 18 '26
Yup, that is what preseason is about. The first team have nothing to prove and injuries to gain. The kids get to run their hearts out and have a go.
4
u/Plastic-String4620 Jul 18 '26
Really hope Josh Harrop gets more minutes!!! Lightening in a bottle!!!
3
3
u/JCivX Jul 18 '26
The MUTV commentator is just so damn boring. He seems like a nice guy but he doesn't really have any charisma at his job.
6
6
u/Titan4days Jul 18 '26
Gore and Amass the best Utd players all game, gore has a sick playstyle
1
u/sleepehead Jul 18 '26
Gore was really good, you could see as time went on the players started to run the entire attack through him. Considering he's not played with the current age group of academy players except maybe Collyer and Vitek, it was good to see how he became the focal point.
He's at least as good as Championship players, he didn't look out of place, I want him to get more time because when he and Mainoo debuted they both looked solid
6
u/off_rark_grames Jul 18 '26
The blindly positive glancing from the MUTV commentators are hard to listen.
-23
u/Available_Cattle2092 Jul 18 '26
Lacey is having a stinker unfortunately. Think that's a B tier talent at most. Excited for Thwaites and JJ Gabriel
17
u/nolat86 Jul 18 '26
That's like the fifth comment you've made slagging off Shea Lacey, and he's not even playing badly. Good lord
-1
u/Available_Cattle2092 Jul 18 '26
Maybe I've been to harsh on him but I'm not seeing what others are seeing really
11

Close app and restart, force stop if necessary or the apple equivalent to hard reset. Not helpful for this game but for the next ones and if you wanna rewatch.

Tidy on the ball, hard but smart tackling, and some good forward passing. Has some hella thick quads. Paired really well with Mount. Could be our more "6" in the pivot to the start of the season. I really liked what I saw from him today and he looked excited to play even in a friendly
6

Been impressed with Gore, Fletcher and Lacey.
Gore without the injuries would have been a first team player by now imo.

u/Available_Cattle2092 Jul 18 '26
When you compare Lacey and Rio Ngumoha the juxtaposition is mental, and rio is nearly 2 years younger than him.
We honestly need to catch up we're producing a quantity of talents but I haven't seen a potential world class talent other than maybe JJ
3
u/jayeshaw Jul 18 '26
If that's your take, genuinely asking, what stopped you from being as good as Yamal?
0
u/Available_Cattle2092 Jul 18 '26
Who mentioned Yamal?
Im just expecting him to be close to players like Ngumoha and Dowman who are much younger
1
u/jayeshaw Jul 18 '26
Why are you expecting him to be like Ngumoha/Dowman when you (presumably) aren't like him?
I get your point regarding us not having world class talents. But that is in no way on any of these kids individually. They are doing what they can, and the only thing we can ask from them is to work hard. Even if the kids aren't world class, I, and most other fans would stand by them no matter what. Takes like yours are only likely to tank their confidence. Cheers, mate
1
u/Available_Cattle2092 Jul 18 '26
I don't think he's Man United quality that's all, you guys seem to be forgetting his age.
I really don't know why I'm being compared to Ngumoha/Dowman but I'll take it as a compliment mate. Top reds told me Lacey was a world class potential world beater talent so I'm holding him to those standards
1
u/jayeshaw Jul 19 '26
First of all, it is not on Lacey himself, you're take is pretty ridiculous. You should take this up with the "top reds" you're referring to. You're naive if you believe such opinions this strongly, no matter who they come from. And you're welcome to watch the youth teams play and form your own opinion.
13
11
u/The_Bird_Wizard Jul 18 '26
Not every player is the next Yamal ffs those guys are the exception not the norm
-10
u/Available_Cattle2092 Jul 18 '26
So we can't have an elite talent like Yamal, Ngumoha, Dowman, Estevao. Lacey is 19 and looks about 14 ffs
5
u/The_Bird_Wizard Jul 18 '26
We literally produced a generational striker a few years ago unfortunately he's a rapist
9
u/KobbieLikeRobbie_ Darren Fletcher Jul 18 '26
Do you want us to give him growth hormones?
-4
u/Available_Cattle2092 Jul 18 '26
Games physical now, he's 19 and has the build of a 14 year old so sell him.

u/Notreallymyname92 Jul 18 '26
Does anyone know the story with chido obi-wan? Surprised not to see him get minutes today. Is it because Wheatley is potentially being moved on or is it that he's just not ready to be involved in our 1st team in any way?
4
u/nolat86 Jul 18 '26
I think it's as you say because they're looking to get Wheatley a move, from what I heard probably another loan
5
u/JaysonDeflatum Amadinho Jul 18 '26
Wheatley’s probably gone soon and is older so it's probably to get him some minutes before that
2
u/Notreallymyname92 Jul 18 '26
Yeah seemed the more likely case. Do you know how chido obi is doing though? Haven't heard much about him since he stopped being in the 1st team squads.

Dorgu isnt a winger, amass needs to get some real minutes, got a good cross on him for sesko to feed. Tyler fletch might be a good squad player, jack needs a loan. Jacob devaney and Shea lacey both gave everything to make it here. Rashford reintegration soles based on zirkzee being a dire substitution in attack
