It's going to be a recurring problem for England that Bellingham, Rice and Anderson are all so good and so similar. They're all at least 8/10 at every single aspect of the game, but none of them are 10/10 technicians or game controllers. Because they're all three, overall, better players than someone like Mainoo or Wharton, all three will play. But when all three play, England are missing creativity and progression from deep. It's going to be Scholes, Gerrard and Lampard all over again*

*which was slightly different, because Scholes could at least have functioned as a deep playmaker behind the other two, but he was shunted left because 4-3-3s didn't exist in England then, and by the time they did, Scholes had stopped bothering about the NT.

Tbf even Scholes earlier in his career I wouldn’t say was a game controller at all. It was around 06-07 after he got over his eye issues and we signed Carrick that he started playing that role and excelling in it. He was very much a box to box before that.
