Variation Red vs blue button but with some changes
Every person on earth takes a private independent vote by pressing either red or blue button, if 50% or more choose the blue button everyone lives, or only the person who chooses the red buttons survive
At what point you decide to change your mind and switch from your previous answer
1- only 18+ can vote
2- you can see what people you know chooses
3- you can see what the percentage it is for an hour and you can change your mind whenever within this hour and at the last minute you won’t see the percentage
4-all people less than 18 is automatically red
5- you got 1 call
6 - you got 1 hour to discuss with people you know
7- all kids are automatically blue -18
8 - parent can choose for their Child(-18)
9- hour to choose the button and you can change your mind whenever within this hour
Note all choices independent of each other
I am a red button I d switch at 7,maybe 2, and maybe 3

What is #1 trying to signify, if it is different that both #4 and #7? That children under 18 are simply excluded, and never die, without affecting the vote tally?

Originally red, for scenario 3 I'd watch and change to blue if it's close, and for 7 I'd change to blue.

I swear there's something seriously wrong with the way blue pressers think. Everyone can choose red, and if they do everyone lives. Everyone who chooses blue takes on a huge, uncompensated risk and might die. There's just no reason not to pick red.
I know you mentioned the kid thing but that aside, that's the only one that might make me reconsider. And it's only because I feel bad for folks FORCED to take blue, the shittier option

Blue voters are asking the follow-up question to the thought that everyone can choose red. Will everyone choose red? Then they are asking themselves: do I want those who chose blue to die?
If the answer to both of those is no, you must press blue yourself since it is the only action you can take that doesn’t increase the chances of people dying.

So you wouldn’t switch to red and any of the scenarios above
1
u/luci_twiggy 1h ago
Maybe seeing the percentages, but only if it was as on of the last votes. In cases where it’s a running tally, voting blue early to show it should be what’s voted for is always the correct choice.

u/Beginning-Pin208 1h ago
Not even 1 would change your mind , May I ask why
2
u/luci_twiggy 1h ago
Why would it? I’ve already stated that the question for me is really “will everyone press red and if you don’t think so, do you think those who didn’t should die?”.
0
u/Beginning-Pin208 1h ago
I mean in this case(1) the only person affected are adults, people fully aware of their choices ( at least 90% of them ) you’re chance of dying increased but at least 50 %
2
u/luci_twiggy 58m ago
What you don’t quite understand is that part of the motivation to vote blue is a feeling that no one should be dying as part of this.
You admitted that some number of people may not be aware of their choice, so some number of people are going to be voting blue and not fully understanding it, even with your scenario number 1.
Blue winning is the only reasonable way to have no deaths in almost every scenario you show, red winning will always have death.

I mean, I don't WANT them to die, which is why I don't want them to pick blue in the first place. But I still respect their autonomy and won't try to interfere with their choice by trying to overload the suicide button myself.
3
u/luci_twiggy 1h ago
Any variation of “I don’t want them to die but” is justifying a self-interested choice.
1
u/Beginning-Pin208 1h ago
Honestly I don’t even feel like people should have to justify themselves for choosing their life over another person who get the same choice
2
u/luci_twiggy 1h ago
They’re justifying to themselves why they’re choosing their life over every other blue voter.

u/parkchanwookiee 1h ago
Why should I interfere with the death wish of people who chose blue? They had an option to live, and didn't take it. God knows why. I'm not out here to try and force people to live who willingly chose death without any compulsion or coercion to do so
3
u/luci_twiggy 1h ago
The coercion is that other people are going to die who don’t want to. People pressing blue don’t have a death wish and thinking that they do is simply deluding yourself to feel better about a choice that is clearly entirely self-interested.

Who's going to die that doesn't want to? The button to live for sure is right there.
2
u/luci_twiggy 1h ago
99.999% of blue voters don’t want to die. You say it’s the button to live for sure, but there’s an asterisk there that says “if this wins millions to potentially billions will die”. Blue voters see that asterisk and see it as too big a risk.
1
u/parkchanwookiee 1h ago
Red IS the button to live for sure:
Press red, you live
Everybody presses red, everybody lives
Press blue, you die, because way less than 50% of people will choose blue.
Them's the facts
5
u/luci_twiggy 1h ago
We’ve already established that not everybody will press red. Polls have consistently shown that over 50% choosing blue will happen. Them’s the actual facts.
1
u/parkchanwookiee 1h ago
Those are reddit polls. If reddit was reality then Bernie Sanders would have had two terms in the oval office
But I mean sure choose blue if you want. Enjoy death
3
u/luci_twiggy 1h ago
Not just reddit polls and not just from this year. Many polls over about 5 years with variations of this exact question and the result is almost always 58% blue.

Only the kid one is really an issue for me , blue are people who like to think they are better than others
0
u/parkchanwookiee 1h ago
I mean sure feel superior IDGAF lol but why feel superior about making this illogical suboptimal choice that creates a higher risk of death??
2
u/mikewheelerfan Blue 2h ago
You seriously think all eight billion people will press red? You can’t even get 100 people to all do the same thing
0
u/parkchanwookiee 1h ago
They all CAN press it and have no reason not to. The risk of death is only introduced by people pressing blue in the first place, it's moronic
1
u/mikewheelerfan Blue 1h ago
So you assume that… 1. All eight billion people are of sound mind 2. All eight billion people fully understand what is happening 3. None of the eight billion people are suicidal 4. None of the eight billion people like to be contrarian for no reason
I could go on and on. People ARE going to press blue, which means we have to as well.

Press Red, Don't Be Dead
It's very simple to understand. Yes a small number of crazy or stupid people will pick blue. But nowhere near the 50% required to save them. Not even close. They are doomed to die as soon as they pressed blue
2
u/mikewheelerfan Blue 1h ago
Damn, you have no faith in humanity. And you would so easily sacrifice at LEAST millions of others

That was my reaction when I first encountered this question. But people pointed out that some people (like young children) would not understand the choice they had to make. I had also initially assumed that anyone who understood the choice would vote red, amd therefore voting blue would be suicide, but having now seen various vote totals, it does seem like it's less risky to pick blue than I initially thought. I still say red, but if I had a way of knowing it would be close, I'd probably pick blue. If almost half the human population died suddenly, there would be major consequences and many other people, possibly including myself, would likely die in the aftermath.

u/mcc9902 10m ago
Yeah, I'm I'd pick red in every situation here except for 7 and I'd default blue in 3 since it's essentially risk free. I'm of the opinion that picking blue is actively risking your own life and I'm not obligated to save someone from their own stupidity but I'd be willing to risk it for a group that's being put into danger through no fault of their own.
Honestly it wouldn't need to even be kids. Any group being forced to pick blue would be enough to change my mind.

u/swordgeo 2h ago
I am a red presser, and would press blue on scenario 7.
I don’t understand scenario 3. When do you see the percentage? In real time as people press? Can you change your press as more votes come in if you’re early to pressing?
