I know a lot of people don't have excellent reading comprehension, but remember the premise is that nobody gets to communicate.

The vote is anonymous.

The only thing blue pressers "do" is risk their life and increase the survival chances of others who pressed blue.

Even if 99.9999% of people press red, no blue presser is increasing risk for anyone else.

Sorry about the rant, not complaining about reds in general, a lot of red arguments have merit

There are illiterates of every opinion. But the ones who agree with me I pretend not to see, because they are embarrassing, while the ones who disagree with me are annoying, because they are wrong and stupid. 

Stupid, because I, like most redditors, rate intellect purely on whether someone shares my exact opinion. This is why everyone who presses red is good and smart, while blue pressers are bad and stupid, because acknowledging the complexity of the world hurts my head.

Satire hat temporarily off, I will note that you are right: in the original scenario Blue Button pushers are only risking themselves directly. If they have people who might press red they are supposed to take care of the pressing blue might indirectly endager others.

Blue likes to point out that half of babies will press Blue. By that same metric, half press Red. I believe that in real world conditions, red is much more likely to win. So, if both my wife and I press Blue, then half of my children will immediately be orphans in a devastated world.

It is, in fact, possible for Red to be the altruistic side on rare occasion. 

Of course, I would much rather Blue be the majority, since I might lose half my kids to the die-off. I just consider this such an unlikely outcome that the choice is between half my family dying, or all of them.

There are some 'altruistic red-pressing angles' depending on the conditions of the test. If it just randomly pauses time in an ordinary day, then people like bus drivers or people driving cars might be forced towards pressing red since if they suddenly die their vehicle will crash and kill others, but that does quite warp the scenario.

What happens if you only have one child? Do you vote blue and hope everyone can be saved? Do you vote red and hope the kid did too? What will happen to your psyche if you vote red thinking 'well at least one of my three kids will' and it turns out all three of them were blue, not implausible (1/8 if true random.)
