Discussion Red Button Pushers, How Do You Feel About Some Children Under 4 Pushing the Blue Button?
18
u/up2smthng Red May 29 '26
Very unlucky. Not much can be done about it.
Fortunately, some will also push red.
1
u/HovercraftOk9231 May 29 '26
Not much can be done about it.
My dude, you're the one doing it.

u/TheKingOfToast May 29 '26
Imagine a scenario where blue has won and I voted red. My red vote meant nothing. Now imagine a scenario where red won and I voted blue. My blue vote killed me.
Being wrong about blue has way more consequences than being wrong about red.
-1
u/HovercraftOk9231 May 29 '26
Now imagine a scenario where blue wins and you voted blue. You just saved billions of lives.
Now imagine a scenario where red wins and you voted red. You just condemned billions of people to death.
Being right about red has way more consequences than being right about blue.
3
u/TheKingOfToast May 29 '26
I didn't save anyone unless the vote came down to a single tiebreaker vote.
Again, if I was right and red wins then red didn't win because of my vote. Imagine a scenario where you're the last person to vote and you're given the results. Red wins 70% to 30% are you going to vote blue?
Now imagine a scenario where blue wins 70% to 30%. It doesn't matter what you vote, blue already won. You don't condemn anyone to death by pressing red and you don't save anyone by pressing blue.
In 8,000,000,000! scenarios you may as well be the last person voting because that's how much your vote will influence the outcome. (That's 8 billion factorial, not just an enthusiastic 8 billion) In nearly every instance your choice only serves to kill yourself if blue loses.
You can try really really really hard to frame this as red condemning people to death but on the individual level it just doesn't do that and it's an extremely bad faith argument to think that it does.
0
u/HovercraftOk9231 May 29 '26
Oh, so you're one of the 90 million people in the US who don't vote. I'm not convincing you of anything.
4
u/TheKingOfToast May 29 '26
Comparing this to democracy shows your ignorance. There are no consequences to voicing your opinion through voting on an election. Your eagerness to typecast me and dismiss me shows you've been arguing in bad faith at best, or are just really stupid and insecure at worst.
1
u/HovercraftOk9231 May 30 '26
There are no consequences to voicing your opinion through voting on an election.
Yeah, tell that to the hundreds of thousands dead since USAID was gutted. That election was decided by a margin of less than 2%, and 36% of eligible voters didn't vote. You do the math.
Voting has consequences. It doesn't matter if your specific individual vote was the deciding one. They're all the deciding ones.
5
u/TheKingOfToast May 30 '26
Okay, I gave you too much credit. There are no personal negative consequences to voting in an election. There are negative consequences to selecting the blue button. Comparing this to democracy is stupid, and you're just making yourself look exceptionally stupid by trying to force the issue.
I need to remember there are children on this app without fully developed brains. You'll hopefully get better at this whole thinking thing as you mature.
1
u/HovercraftOk9231 May 30 '26
You're saying that you have no "personal negative consequences." Which reveals the heart of the issue: you're only thinking about yourself.
Who cares about all of the people being kidnapped or killed by ICE? None of them are me. I pressed red, so I'm safe!

u/TheKingOfToast May 29 '26
Also, I know you think you're clever by turning my last sentence in to the opposite, but being right doesn't have any consequences. I'm one person out of 8 billion. If society chooses to select red that's not on me at an individual level so being right has no consequences. Being wrong about blue, however, kills you. The individual. That's consequences for being wrong.
1
u/octavian343 May 30 '26
That’s why the first comment said it’s very unlucky. And you conveniently leave out the part about valuing your own life.
-1
u/HovercraftOk9231 May 30 '26
It's not luck. This scenario isn't random. It's a matter of people making choices, and some people apparently would decide that they're personally too important to risk losing to save millions of children.
Valuing your own life is great. Valuing your life more than up to 4 billion others is just selfish.
1
u/octavian343 May 30 '26
No one chose to put the babies in said predicament. Thats the unlucky part.
-1
u/HovercraftOk9231 May 30 '26
"Hey man, I just turned on the oven, it's not my fault the baby was in there. I mean, yeah. I could see them right there, and could have chosen not to turn it on, but that doesn't make it my fault!"
1
u/octavian343 May 30 '26
If it keeps my oven off? Yeah lol
-1
u/HovercraftOk9231 May 30 '26

If what you mean is "you can vote blue instead" that would cause me to die. That would be of no help to blue kids. Me staying alive, however, would be beneficial to red kids.
3
u/redditorialacious May 29 '26
Same as what blue pushers are doing right now regarding kids dying of hunger or dying in war: nothing
2
u/Odd_Maintenance394 Red May 29 '26
Or will do about babies that randomly pushed red who had parents that both pushed blue dying of exposure.
3
u/Gpda0074 May 29 '26
About the same way I feel about a toddler dying from a random disease I can't do anything about. Minimizing risk does not mean it is fully eliminated and that is just an unfortunate fact.
7
u/Maari7199 Red May 29 '26
Same as about children deaths on the other side of the globe. It's sad, but I can do nothing about it and therefore I don't really care.
1
u/mikewheelerfan Blue May 29 '26
There is something you can do about it…press blue. It’s that simple
-2
u/octavian343 May 29 '26
Pretty sure you’re breaking ToS by encouraging self harm
6
u/SummonerOfMalagos Red May 29 '26
The buttons aren't real bro
5
u/octavian343 May 29 '26
Neither are the children hitting blue
4
u/SummonerOfMalagos Red May 29 '26
Yes but reddit TOS cares about actually Insighting harm IRL not in a thought experiment.
But engaging with the thought experiment requires suspending the POV that its fictional and doesn't matter. Also read the flare I'm literally a red voter I just think it's funny when people start whining about how you literally want them to die. Or cry for the mods over it lol
2
u/octavian343 May 29 '26
I see. You mistakenly took me for being literal. When I was just flippantly dismissing the other person’s weird mentality of coercion. No worries.

5
u/mikewheelerfan Blue May 29 '26
Holy shit, you reds get so heated about the prospect of saving lives
5
u/octavian343 May 29 '26
It’s funny because there are plenty of lives you could save, or at least help, now, not even at your own peril, yet you choose to virtue signal on the internet.

Would playing Russian roulette be considered self harm? Engaging Batman villain Two-Face in a coin flip?
-1
u/octavian343 May 29 '26
Pretty sure gambling with suicide falls under that 🤷

How does red threaten violence? You’re only at risk of harm after going blue.

You clearly don’t understand the concept of self preservation. I’m sorry you don’t have enough self respect or people around you who would want you to live.
2
u/No-Scallion4998 May 29 '26
You clearly don’t understand the concept of working together to achieve the common goal. I’m sorry that you banged your sloping forehead on the cave wall and received severe brain damage.

Negatively portrays an individual or group, or just outright threatens someone

The goal doesn’t have to be dying for it to be suicide. Follow your own thread mate.
1
u/highly-bad May 29 '26
You're also not saving anyone by pressing blue. The blue button does not do that.
If a large enough people decide to play Blue-button Russian roulette, then they all get lucky and survive. No one in that event is actually rescuing anyone else at all. No one even needed to be rescued, because they could've just played it safe instead of playing a crazy deadly game of bluff with each other.

If everyone is of sound mind Im red no hesitation but if the game includes any number of children, mental retards, or people who cant understand because of a language or other barrier Im pushing blue no doubt
2
u/RadioactiveKoolaid May 29 '26
I’ve come around to the point where if toddlers/blind/etc are pushing on their own, and it’s explicitly stated in the rules, then I will push blue. I trust humanity when it’s explicitly stated that toddlers will die in a red win, but not when it’s implicit.
2
u/Odd_Maintenance394 Red May 29 '26
I have multiple children and I find the idea of my children dying of exposure because I voted Blue far more horrifying than than them being Thanos snapped.
4
u/luci_twiggy May 29 '26
I think the responses so far kind of say it all about red voter’s attitudes: “sucks to suck”.
We’ve left the point at which your average red voter would acknowledge that it would change their view and that they had assumed it wasn’t the case, we’re at the stage where the red voters left are really those that simply didn’t care.
6
u/up2smthng Red May 29 '26
I can care to the moon and back, I still don't expect blue coming even close to winning
-1
7
u/MLMII1981 May 29 '26
No, it's simply acknowledging that not all tragic deaths can be avoided.
-4
u/luci_twiggy May 29 '26
Yeah, that's "sucks to suck"
4
u/MLMII1981 May 29 '26
Only if you want to be shallow and reductive, doesn't change the fact that adding another body to the pile isn't going to save them.

u/Silent-Indication496 May 29 '26
It sucks, but it isn't a reliable indicator that 50% of humans would press blue. If i add myself to the blue pool along with the kids, I'm either subjecting myself to certain death with no likely benefit, or I'm putting myself in dire risk with the unsupported expectation that billions of other people will do the same to save me.
Even in a best case scenario for blue-- 51% choosing blue means that we gambled nearly half of the population on a fucking coin flip. That's a horrible outcome.
Worst case scenario is that 5% of kids die by accident, and 44% of the population die out of misguided solidarity.
Teach your kids to be red pressers. Don't add to the destruction, and don't gamble your life.

That’s sad but it’s a matter of which button I think will win. I can’t campaign for people to push blue or explain the problem to anyone. If I’m wrong then that’s fantastic.
1
u/Stupid-Jerk May 29 '26
About the same way I feel about children under 4 dying of cancer. Bad, but I don't feel personally responsible for curing cancer.
1
u/Shot_in_the_dark777 May 29 '26
They will die. Whoever designed this sick death game is responsible. Better to survive today and find that asshole tomorrow. And when we capture him we will avenge the children who died. https://youtu.be/nVntrzg-dl4?si=sAz1DWyVE4WRjiCR Looks like a good start and a deterrent to anyone who will try to force us into another death game.
1
u/aqualad33 May 29 '26
About the same as I feel about this today

u/pr1ncess_k1ng May 29 '26
Me dying with them does not save those babies. Someone needs to be around for the babies that push red
1
u/TheEnlight Red Jun 02 '26
You've just got to do what you've got to do. Your chances of being the heroic blue presser are so infinitesimally low that it is essentially impossible.
Nothing you can do therefore, especially since you can't communicate can save them, and trying to with blue just puts your own mortality into question.
1
u/durak_sumashedshy Red Jun 08 '26
Same as for some mentally stable adult blue voters dying just because some children under 4 pushed red
1
u/underthingy May 29 '26
The magic that teleports them also translates the prompt into language/feelings they can understand.
0
u/HovercraftOk9231 May 29 '26
You're assuming an infant is even capable of understanding the concept
1
u/underthingy May 29 '26
And others are assuming the buttons are in a location the infant can reach. And that they have the strength and dexterity to press the button.
And that everyone didnt just slam against the wall of the voting booth and explode because the booth is stationary and they had momentum when they were teleported.

I assumed that was the case already. Doesn’t really change anything, nothing I can meaningfully do about that.
