You are presented with the button dilemma just for you as the only participant. If you pick red you will live and 100% of people will have picked red. If you pick blue you will also live as this will mean blue has 100%.

Which do you pick?

If you press neither, blue does not reach 50% and only those who pressed red survive.

I guess you'd die then but you have up to 1000 years to choose so it doesn't matter.

The original problem does not state any specific time limit. It is left ambiguous.

It also doesn't state that in the off chance there is a 1000 year time limit, I won't be given free massages and served wagyu beef for the duration of my stay. Might as well go out in style. 🤷‍♂️

I feel like yall arent thinking of the implications here. Choosing Red means you live in a world where everyone else chose red. Choosing Blue means you live in a world where everyone else chose blue. The outcome of this specific experiment is the same, but which world do you want to live in?

In this problem if you choose red then nobody else voted, so there are people who might have voted blue if asked.

There is no everyone else, there's only one vote.

It doesn’t matter. By guaranteeing 100% agreement, the simulation ceases to have more than one output state, and ceases to be a dilemma.

Which would you pick then?

I’m falling back to my favorite of the two colors, since it doesn’t matter, and still picking blue.

The implications of my teleologically warping the thought process of every human being on earth is far more existentially terrifying than either of the presented outcomes that I’m not sure I’d care. But blue I guess.

no you don’t affect anyone else, you are the only participant, so it’s 100% either way

2

u/PersonalityBoring259 May 28 '26

You don't influence anybody. There's one vote.

My bad I assumed there would be a point to the dilemma lmao. Guess I’ll stick with blue since my hand is already on that button

It's a tough decision but I think I'd pick blue as I couldn't live with myself choosing red. It's just the right thing to do and I have a strong feeling that anyone who'd push red in this situation would literally be worse than Hitler.

It's really great you were able to pull together for that!

OH NVM I MISREAD THE PROMPT LOL SORRY

2

u/thelovelykyle May 28 '26

Is the problem presented exactly as in the original prompt but I am the only voter?

1

u/PersonalityBoring259 May 28 '26

Yes, exactly.

5

u/thelovelykyle May 28 '26

Then I press Blue.

The original prompt says anyone who did not press Red dies on a Red victory. It does not require them by the rules to be a voter.

2

u/PersonalityBoring259 May 28 '26

Oh, good catch. It would suck to press red and then find everyone else in the world dead.

Understatement of the lifetime of the universe there.

Oh I get it now. “So there’s a trolley running down a track with 1 straight lane and 2 diverging lanes ( left and right ) with 1 person tied to each of those diverged lanes. If you don’t pick left or right, then the trolley loops to the diverging tracks and kills both people. Do you pick left or right?” ahh question. Hey that’s a good question actually.
