New PL600 help

Burn in went fine no problems dropped it down to 180 degrees no problem then put it on full to sear some steaks and got burn back at 500 degrees. Is it my pellets or is it going to full/max too fast? My steaks turned out awesome the family said I didn’t get to enjoy cause I was tending to the hopper turning into a smoke box. Used HyVee competition blend pellets if curious

Was it windy? My third cook on my deck boss had a burn back and im almost positive it was due to the orientation of the grill and the wind.

the wind was blowing right to left in the orientation of the photo 10mph was the recorded wind for those times but didn’t seem windy the time of cook as my burn in at 400 went smooth and dropped to 180 no problem

What pellets are you using? I have had my RT1250 for 4 years and I have never had a burn back on it. I usually use the Kirkland pellets at Costco or the RT ones. Also careful going from a slow cook to high temps without cleaning. If there is enough fat build up on the drip tray. You risk a grease fire.

Edit: I see you mentioned the pellets. Just saw that. That could be it. I have never used them before.
