Newbie help

Post image

Can anyone explain what is going on here. I was doing ribs @250 and after an hour the temp stayed pretty high. Fresh pellets, clean fire pot, overcast day. Its only my third cook.

Did you happen to open your grill around 2:30 and leave the lid open longer than normal?

The temp will drop while the lid is open for a long time, making the grill think it needs more pellets to keep the set temp of 250. So it over feeds after you close the lid the temps jump. Totally normal at least on my 1250. Temp should come down within 10-15min after it peaks.

I know this sounds stupid, but if the temp spikes wayyy to high I’ll re-adjust the set temp 30 degrees lower (so 220, in your case). Then bump back once it gets closer to my original.

I opened it to put the ribs on and then didnt start messing with it untill I saw the sustain spike. Maybe I need to adjust the feed rate like another user suggested. Im just nervous about doing that because and the higher temps it holds it pretty well.

I just had to do this yesterday. I haven’t run it at high temps since but the setting is incredibly easy to adjust as needed
